(Jerry McCulley, Amazon.com)

すでにライブでは、「Alien Virus」, 「Angeles of the Disappeared」、「Iidontwantanythingfromyou」と披露済みですが、最初のシングルは、「Will I?」

Rick goes heavy!!!
I was in schock when I heard the cd the first time!
I was in denial, no way could Rick Springfield have made this!
I was in anger because he had changed his music into hard core heavy music!
I was in acceptance after a couple of songs and this record was he best for a long time!
PS. The newer CD's keeps up with this one and he just keep getting better!!!!!

I'll admit I loved Jessie's Girl when it came out, but my sisters used to talk about how cute he was etc, and that kinda made me not want to listen to anymore. I wrote him off as just another pretty boy that was popular with the ladies but probably didn't have enough substance to sustain him. There were so many artists/groups like what I just described that were big in the 80s, and he just seemed like he was the next one. It wasn't until about the time of "Tao" where I actually read the lyrics that were included in the LP (yes a record...I'm that old). I love to write myself, so I am always in awe when someone can bring words together in such a way as to impress me. After reading some of the lyrics I began to listen to the other songs. and I was amazed. This stuff was great, and by the time "Rock of Life" came out (a very very underrated album by the way..one of my favorites...also special to me because it was the first Rick album I bought for myself...and since I did not have a lot of money back then...someone really had to impress me for me to by the album) I was totally hooked. However, I was also angry, because after reading up more on Rick Springfields career so that I could find out other albums to find/listen to. I realised he started back in 1972. My friendly neighborhood record store owner neglected to tell me this. although he really was great at reccomending things to me. so I purchased comic book heroes etc, and started listening to his pre-MTV stuff. And, though he still doesn't do anything for me in the looks department lol, i'm more into the music than what they look like. I was really impressed. Though I really do wish he would have released more. And this album is one of the reasons why I really love the fact that real musicians never stop making music. His music is still strong, if not stronger than the 80s. The lyrics are still great, and he still can Rock...unlike some of those who try and call themselves musicans these days. They may make the money, but they do not have even an ounce of the talent Rick has. I do not care how old he is now. Prince is over 50 as well, and it just seems as if artists/musicians such as this are ageless anyway. Someone said in another review that rick may not be the best singer, and at times his voice falters, I believe he does this intentionally. I feel it's just his way of adding a little flavor/emotion to the songs. He sounds pretty good to me. I gave this cd five stars, but that's not because I am comparing it to anything he's done in the past. I don't think it's fair to judge something now to something then. Especially when it comes to someone like Rick who has had great commercial success but also has been in the business so long that it seems he's had "better days". Charts really do not matter to real music lovers. Something this strong and beautiful means more than a number one status. I gave it the five stars because one, it really stands as a great album by itself. and two, compared to artists today it pretty much blows them away. Also I believe he is also an underrated guitarist. I love music like this because even though computers/studio gimmickry can add to a song, it shouldn't take place of real music. it should only be meant to augment. hearing real guitars pians and drums are great. I don't mind a synth as long as it's used properly. Nowadays music is pretty much computer generated. Albums like this reminds us how beautiful music is when it has the "huaman touch". So I'd highly reccomend this cd to Rick fans but also to music fans in general. and also I'd like to add that if you Love, or just like Rick, check out Rock of Life. It's got some really great music on it as well. He's still making great albums, so do not think that just because you have not heard these songs on the radio that the album can be written off. Karma has one of my favorite songs "It's always something" and that alone was worth the price I paid for the cd alone. So help yourself he's got plenty of great music and amazon is a great place to pick them up at a good price. You won't be disappointed.

"Never felt what you made me feel"

Ah, Rick Springfield. I used to have his posters on my wall, faithfully kissing him goodnight each evening. I spent many an hour listening to my Rick records (yes, 33 rpm *records*), imagining how he'd one day come and sweep me away to live happily ever after. Well, that never happened ;-) but at least Rick's tunes have been a companion to me for the last 20+ years!
With the release of s/d/a/a, Rick has shocked me, and oh baby do I accept it! I am not really a rocker by nature ~~ as I've gotten older I've leaned more towards country music, and I've always been an "easy listening" (The Carpenters, Air Supply, etc) fan ~~ but there are times when even a quiet chick wants to ROCK OUT, and s/d/a/a more than fits the bill!!
This CD grabs you from the beginning and doesn't let go. I love the change in Rick's voice from the earlier years ~~ it's rougher, sexier ~~ and the musicianship is stellar. Shock/Denial/Anger/Acceptance is the total package. As a writer myself, I appreciate too the craftsmanship in the lyrics, the unique ability Rick has to string words together which express perfectly what I am feeling, or what I have felt over the years.
While most of the CD is hard-rockin', there are some slow-downs, such as "Angels of the Disappeared" and "Alien Virus". The first single, "Will I" has already taken up residence in my memory banks, and I think "I Don't Want Anything From You" will follow shortly!
It might seem to some like there's a disproportionate amount of anger in these songs, but I think it's an individual choice to take that emotion away from your listening experience. I didn't walk away angry, I walked away wanting more! Maybe if you know the story behind the songs it makes a difference. Check out [...] for Rick's journal. It's very cool to get a glimpse of the creative process, and what meaning the songs have.
I am not disappointed in this CD by any stretch of the imagination. I am an "old school" Rick fan, and I had some apprehension about s/d/a/a, that I'll admit. But baby, it is AWESOME! Keep it comin', Rick!
