There is no doubt about it people, Jin has arrived and has made a mark on in the music industry. Not many artists can actually achive the what Jin has done on his freshman album, The Rest Is History. He has stepped into the scene on fire! The album from start to finish is simply that, fire. With fresh beats and an even more fresh flow Jin can be unstoppable. Starting with the 2nd track on the record titled HERE NOW, and yes he is here now. He lets the public and other MC's know that he is here. Followed with the killer track GET YOUR HANDZ OFF just emphisizes his point. The beat for that track is nothing less then phenominal as well as the flow that Jin puts out is simply flawless. CLUB SONG is yet another hot track! (Where does he get them?) This is a track definatly for the clubs and the club heads in all of us. The beat and flow intertwine in such a way that you can't help but to find yourself bobbing your head and singing along with the track. Skipping down the tracks, you find the track titled LOVE SONG. This is where Jin really changes the game of hip-hop even more. He pours his heart out in this mid-tempo track telling a story that is as old as time but he manages to make it sound fresh and new. Now that is talent. Followed by yet another heart wrenching track called COLD OUTSIDE and to wrap things up on this record he is humble and, in his way, says thank you for all his gifts that were bestowed on him. To sum it all up, THE REST IS HISTORY is rollercoster of real life with out the guns, drugs, sex, and girls. Jin has given us the other side of hip-hop life. A more realistic side, and for that, thank you Jin. Now for all of you who have read this review, go cop the album if you haven't already 'cause it's blazin'!!!!

Ruff Ryders did it again,
Higarant Anfang 2005. Fünf voll verdiente Punkte, gute Arbeit Jin oder sollte man sagen Ruff Ryders...dieser bittere Nachgeschmack bleibt. Deswegen trotzdem immer noch verdiente 5.

with his sick flow, fast delivery and lyrical abilities jin really is at the top....... hes what MOST hip hop artists are lacking and this cd and all of his others are must haves in a hip hop collection

jins got some of the sickest beats to listen to in ur car, party to, etc and his music is really unbeatable. The guy blew people away on 106 and park and his album just shows the real talent he has, and all of the songs get better and better and each one sounds better with it's own twist

learn chinese has a semi ragga quality to it and really stands out, i got a love with kanye west is insane and thats a brilliant song, and he really has more character than MOST hip hop artists and takes this to a whole new level

IF UR INTO FREESTYLING GET THIS CD AND HEAR THE MASTER jin, immortal technique, ras kass, saigon, notorious big are all the BEST at dropping off the top

One thing I like about Jin is his honesty and candidness. Jin's music still sounds somewhat adolescent, after all he was only 21 when he recorded this album, but songs like "Love Story" and "Same Cry" are very genuine and sincere. Also, instead of fronting that he is hard and a thug, he challenges the notion that rappers have to be all of those images. Instead of bragging about getting shot, he admits that he wish it never happened, especially when it could of resulted in the death of a close friend. These are the kind of lyrics that teenagers need to hear more of. Many rappers would not say anything like that on their lyrics.

Jin also understands that as the first Asian rapper he has a strong message that he must carry and convey, which he expresses in many of his songs, "all of this weight on my shoulders". I wonder how East Asia will accept him, i.e. if Ruff Ryder has any plans of expanding his fan base to the east. I would recommend it, although his song "Same Cry" might be banned in China for his comments on Tainanmen Square.

I agree with the critic from the Bay Guardian who gave a review of his album. The first songs of the album are weak and sound as if many of those songs were dictated by the record executives and producers, but he seems to take over in the second half of the album. The only criticism I have of his song, "Learn Chinese" was the chorus lines coming from the East Asian women who were singing. Was that even Cantonese they were singing? What was up with that? Isn't that just prolonging preconceived ideas of what non-Asians have of us? I have a feeling Wyclef had something to do with that, not that I have anything against Wyclef; I actually respect him as an artist, but he can get ridiculous sometimes. However, I will overlook that and continue to support him because of the many other positive messages he sends in this album.

The other thing I love about Jin is that he now has the means to challenge the mainstream media, which continues to demascuilinize and desexualize the Asian male, with his image as a strong rapper, and songs like "Love Story" show his tender side as well. As the writer for the Bay Guardian wrote, it is probably the most genuine and touching story of inter-racial love that I have heard in a long time. I hope he continues to do well among Asian and non-Asian hip hop fans. One day, on my way to work on the Subway, I heard the song, "Senorita" coming out of someone's headphones who was not Asian; I hope to hear more of that.
