Pattoの1970年のデビュー盤。70年はこのようなブルージーなギターは多くいたなあ。その中でもこのグループはぜひとも押さえておいてほしい。それにしても今聞いても最高だね。このアルバム。4.なんかの多彩なギターワークはすばらしいねぇ〜。7.の高音のギターの音色もいいなあ。9.はおまけらしいが、14分つづく大作で、ドラムがやたらうまいし、それに負けじとギターがからむ。ヴォーカルもなかなかいい声している。のりのいいブリテッィシュ・ハードロック、バドカンなんか（いやそれ以上です！）好きな方には絶対気に入ってもらえると思う。

かっこいい。確かにセカンドのHold Your Fireは傑作だ。でも、このファーストだって劣らない。
Ollie Halsalのギターが光っている。無論、Mike Pattoの歌も渋いし、リズム隊だって、悪くない。
それで、音はこの時代を感じさせるヘビーブリティッシュブルース・ジャズロックだが、ときより見せる軽快さはOllieが後に参加するTempestに通じるものがあると思う。特にSan Antoneの展開、バックコーラスの軽快さなど、彼らがテクニックに走る事より音楽をする事に重きを置いているのが感じ取れる。
同時期のブリティッシュバンドがクリームやコロシアムの重々しさを持っている中でPattoにはおしゃれな感覚があったと思う。（Vibeの使用とか。）
今、こんなバンドがあれば、今の若者にも響く音だと思う。

Iconic 70s jazz influenced rock. A truly fabulous band featuring the incredible Ollie Halsall on guitar and the great vocals of Mike Patto - lucky enough to see them live many years back and they were knock-out - I never forgot the quality of their very original music. This is the first album and a very good first album it is. Sadly Mike and Ollie are no longer with us - check out their brief but marvellous legacy. *****

Grand, grand, grand ! ... Tout y est : la rythmique, les instruments mélodiques et harmoniques, les voix (& LA voix too !)... On est dans un album génial ! ... Big Rock band ! MERCI messieurs . . .

Diese Platte ist vielleicht die beste unbekannte LP der frühsiebziger Jahre. Patto entstand in der Nachfolge der Gruppe TIMEBOX und bestand aus Mike Patto, Ollie Halsall, Clive Griffiths und John Halsey. Herausragend aus einem unglaublich guten Gruppensound, war Ollie Halsall an Gitarre, Keyboards und Vibraphon (! ), ein leider unter tragischen Umständen verstorbener Virtuose, der mühelos in einer Liga mit z.B. Allan Holdsworth spielen konnte.
Ungewöhnlich auch die Arragements der einzelnen Songs; von Blues-Rockig bis Free-Jazzig ist alles vorhanden, zusammengehalten von Halsalls Gitarre und Pattos markantem Gesang.
Die Platte ist zum Zeitpunkt des Erscheinens ( 1970 ) untergegangen, damals waren härtere Sounds erfolgreicher ( Purple, Sabath, Zeppelin). Nichtsdestotrotz lohnt sich es sich, dieses Meisterwerk für sich zu entdecken, auch heute klingt es zeitlos und kraftvoll.

Übrigens, auch die zweite Patto LP HOLD YOUR FIRE ist absolut hörenswert und steht Pattos Debutalbum in nichts nach.

C'est fin 1970 qu'apparaît le groupe Patto, un quatuor anglais crée par Mike Patto (né Mike Mc Grath en 1942 et décédé prématurément en 1979). Injustement méconnu, le groupe pratiquait un blues-rock assez emblématique de ce qui se faisait outre-manche à cette époque, avec une touche jazzy assez prononcée.Dès le morceau d'ouverture le ton est donné, et on comprend très vite qu'on a affaire à une grande voix en la personne de Mike Patto. Une voix chaude avec juste ce qu'il faut de gouaille!(Steve Marriot,Roger Chapman). "The man" donc ouvre l'opus, avec un vibraphone qui donne la note jazz. Puis vient "Hold me back" un blues- rock dans la veine d'Humble Pie avec les premiers chorus d'Olly Halsall qui a troqué le vibraphone contre une guitare. L'homme n'est pas manchot et ses interventions vont illuminer tous les morceaux! Un régal, avec parfois des solos à la limite du "free", le tout épaulé par une section rythmique parfaite.

8 titres sur ce disque qui correspondent au LP original de 1970, plus 1 bonus inédit "Hanging Rope" de près de 15 mn. Une belle balade entre blues-rock free-jazz et même rock-prog à la Robert Fripp du King Crimson, voir le titre "Money Bag"
Par la suite leader Mike Patto participera au Keith Tippet's Centipede, suivront également deux autres disques du groupe Patto en 1971 et 1972. En 1974 Mike Patto rejoindra Spooky Tooth.

I originally saw Patto at the Roundhouse when they came on just before Elton Johns Christmas concert there.They did a number of tracks from this album which are listened to nostalgically.
Overall probably their best album and worth adding to your collection.
