Long time compatriots and bandmates David Crosby and Graham Nash have joined forces yet again to release the oddly named Crosby/Nash 28 years after their last studio effort, Whistling Down the Wire. This double-disc is certainly worth the wait, despite the fact that most of the 20 songs are profoundly introspective and tinged with an elegant melancholy and sense of regret for an idealized past. To their credit, after four decades, Crosby and Nash are still in perfect voice, and remain graceful foils for one another, although some of the songs don't do justice to their prodigious talents. A handful are without focus and seem to be impressions in search of a hook, save the lovely, ethereal "Lay Me Down" (penned by Crosby's son, James Raymond) and the rather esoteric '60s throwback "Luck Dragon," with its elegant space jam ending. Nash's contributions are a bit more prosaic, and seem to be autobiographical ruminations about middle age, except the chilling environmental cautionary tale, "Don't Dig Here" and haunting post-9/11 song, "Half Your Angels." But the disc really comes alive when the duo shows their old ire, "They Want It All," a clear potshot at corporate greed and politics, and a wrenching read of "My Country 'Tis of Thee." --Jaan Uhelszki

クロスビーのCPRでの活動、ナッシュの最新ソロ等聴いていたので出来に不安はなかったのだが、文句なく良い。
クロスビーの幻想的な難解さを求める向きには少し拍子抜けがあるかも知れないが、それはそれ、薬中のクロスビーとはまた別の魅力がある。
何よりも、今この時代にこう言うC&Nの新譜を聴ける事に感謝したい。

派手さはない。しかしラップ全盛の現代には逆にとても新鮮に聞こえる。まずは演奏。アクーステティックギターのシンプルで透きとおった響きと二人の息の合った絶妙なハーモニーがすごくフィットして独特の音世界を生み出している。この点では今までの二人のどんなアルバムより完成度が高いと見る。二つ目に二人とも歌い方が若い。ナッシュの情熱的な歌い方、メロディーラインへの歌の乗せ方はまさに名人芸。一方クロスビーは声は相変わらず澄んでいてとてもきれい。突然シャウトして始まるsamuraiは圧巻。今になってこの声を聞かせてくれるのはファンとしてはたまらない。歌手としてこの人ほど声に魅力ある人は少ないだろう。しかし、何より注目すべきは歌詞の良さだ。感動的な反戦歌、心の奥のひだをくすぐる心理的な歌、深い意味を暗示する隠喩的な歌、年輪を刻んできた二人だからこそ書ける歌だし、それだけに聴くものはその意味を真摯に受け止めメッセージを自分の考えや行動に生かさなければなければならない。とにかく極上の一枚。レベルが高い。聞けば聞くほど味が出る。歌詞がわかればわかるほど惹きこまれる。ディスク2が特に良い。

かれこれ30年以上のお付き合いだから言える事がある。CPR (Crosby, Paver & Raymond)のアルバムを買った時に思ったが、CPRはクロスビー中心のバンドみたいだが実はクロスビーの色はほとんどなくて、Paver & Raymondのものばかり。これ『Crosby*Nash』もメンバーは同じでCPR＋Nashなのだ。大体、アルバム・タイトルはこれでいいのかね。『CPR＋Nash』のがリアルだったのに。
まず飽きる。傾聴（持続して聴く）ことができない。時代が経っても古さを感じないどころか、聴いているそばから忘れて行きそう。
1.メロディーが秀逸・・・ではない。　
2.ハモリ重視で、決まってる・・・かろうじて。でもさほどでない。
3.奇抜さ・・・ない。
　　
残るは歌詞の内容がいいとか。そうでもなけりゃ意味が無い。
彼らの25、6歳の時の金字塔はどこへ行ってしまったのか。演奏もさることながら、歌詞、曲のアレンジ、コーラスのかぶせ方が昔は良かった。人生、いろんな事を知った方が良い作品ができそうだが現実はそうではないね。CSN（CSNY）の1枚目、2枚目、その時代のライブ『4 Way Street』、はたまたウッドストックでの演奏。みんなどこへ行ったぁ～。

Crosby&Nashの作品というよりCrosby,Paver&Raymond(CPR)+Graham Nash
みたいな作品（実際最初の２曲はRaymond作曲だし）
でも音楽の方向性がそう違っていたわけでもないし、違和感なくみんな
作品の中に溶け込んでいます。
やはりこの二人は時代に追いつこうなどと思わず、こういう感じの
のほほ～んとした雰囲気の作品が似合います。
２枚組と本人たちも気合入ってますし、昔好きだった方はぜひどうぞ。
でもツアーはCSNでやるのにどうしてアルバムではStillsを抜いたのでしょうか？

What a beautifully recorded and sung album! My God, these guys sound as good as they did back in the seventies! Sure, their voices are a bit lower now and maybe they can't hold the notes quite as long, but this is as excellent a collection as anything else they've done. Kudos to fantastic instumental accompaniment by James Raymond, Dean Parks, Jeff Pevar, Lee Sklar and Russ Kunkel! And the songwriting is consistently powerful as well--"Lay Me Down," "Don't Dig Here," "Jesus Of Rio," "Milky Way Tonight," and "Live On (the Wall) are instant classics. If there's anything to criticize, it's the length of disc two, which is just about 29 minutes long, but, no matter, I would've gladly shelled out the $20 if they'd put the whole thing on one cd. This is definitely one of the year's best releases so far!

This is a very interesting album that has classic David Crosby and Graham Nash voices and harmonizing in 2 CDs worth of new material (for the most part). I was happy to find this album. Like any good compilation, you need to give it a couple or three listens before the songs all start to click. I also have their more recent individual albums, but you can't beat their ability to harmonize with their signature vocal style. This is a great one to add to your collection of you like their music. Interesting that Itunes can't find any album art.

A quick addition of all the song lengths on this effort will reveal that they could've easily fit on a single, more affordable, compact disc release.

But even that disc would have been greatly improved -- perhaps the first classic from these legends in some time -- had they chosen to leave at least a half-dozen of songs off.

With that said, there are certainly a dozen tracks that are quite nice. Crosby and Nash really shine as they perform many tunes written by others. And Crosby does manage to add one more classic to his repertoire, with the disc-one-ending "How Does It Shine?".

What stands out the most to me, though, is the production on this set. It is outstanding in a way that surpasses the remastered versions of their absolute classics. (Maybe technology isn't so bad, after all.) Even the mediocre songs sound pretty good...compared to the such poorly-produced recent efforts such as CSN&Y's "Looking Forward."

Yes, at times, this is a real car stereo tester...best enjoyed on a leisurely road trip with just enough inclement weather to require the windows to remain up. However, do be prepared to hit that skip button a few times.

If this CD was released as just the first disk I would easily have given it a five star rating. With a couple of exceptions on the second disk the less than stellar selections diminishes the over all effect of the cd. There's no half stars so over all I have to give it a 4 out of five. As has been discussed here if Crosby Nash had been released as a single cd it would quality as one of the duo's best efforts ever. As it is, I think the song flow of disk one is wonderful, much better than "Highlights". "Lay Me Down" has to be considered as good as anything in the CSN catalogue. "Luck Dragon" is a terrific cut. So is "Jesus of Rio". My favorite, however is Nash's "Other Side of Town" - just beautiful. The vocal performances here are simply amazing. The more I listen to this cd, the more I like it. If it had been edited differently I would say it would have surpassed "Wind on the Water". Oh well, just think of side two as "bonus material". In any event, I think much of this cd is right up there with Crosby's CPR, that is, a return to the greatness that eluded the CSN recorded output in the 80s and 90s.

Very Simply (because others have reviewed this CD so well): First Listening, I thought, "Well, there's probably one great CD split between the two CDs. Second Listening: "Oh, that's a great lyric...Oh, that's a melody so sweet they didn't even need lyrics." Third: "There's that song again that I woke up with in my head." At this point, the CD has been in my car for over two weeks, and I cannot take it out. I cannot stop listening to it. And I seem to be enjoying it more and more, deeper and deeper. By next week, it'll be wired into my DNA.
