2年間の隠遁生活の後、発表された初ソロ・アルバム。
サイド・プロジェクトのレンタルズ活動中に
ウィーザーをクビになるという屈辱を味わい、
現在も係争中らしい。
ここで聴けるサウンドは
ウィーザーのようなギター・ポップでも
レンタルズのようなキッチュなニューウェイヴでもない。
つぶやくようなヴォーカルと
アコギ主体のアコースティックな音の
スロウ・コアともいえそうな渋いサウンド。
しかし、ゆったり流れる時間を愛でるようなやすらぎと
包み込むような優しさに満ちていて
素晴らしい。
TVのない、平原に囲まれた農家での
2年間の隠遁生活のなかで
自分自身と向き合ったのだろうか。
音の質感がすごく穏やかなのだ。
シンプルに贅肉を削ぎ落とした
セルフ・タイトルの今作、
「ぼくはここにいるよ」という存在証明であるとともに
ミュージシャンとしての決意表明なのかもしれない。

A hidden gem I'd never even knew existed. I was always a big Rentals fan, and was even a big fan of Seven More Minutes, but I'd never heard that Sharp did anything on his own.. I don't consider myself someone who just gives 5 stars to everything. This album may have its flaws, but it's such a great little personal piece that it means so much more than what the general public gave it credit for. One of the prizes of my collection, for sure. Sharp has proven time and time again that he has an incredible sense of "message" he wants to convey, and even better, a great ear for drone and melody blending together really well. The instrumental "After the Angels" really stands out, as well as "Before You Go," but every track brings something new and unique to the table. For me, that combined with the personal feel makes it an absolute stand-out.

First off, I just want to say that I love Matt's work with Weezer and The Rentals. Those are some of my favorite discs, period. That being said, I can't believe this disc was produced by the same guy. I had to force myself to listen to this because I kept thinking that maybe I was missing something, but no...this is just experimental garbage...Some tracks begin with long instrumental pieces, interjected with very sparse vocals...ugh. This is not commercial music at all. There is nothing catchy here, no rhythm, no melody...save your money.

First I am a huge Weezer fan, and a equal Rentals fan. I thought Sharp brought great things to Weezer and The Rentals was his brainchild...I thought how can I go wrong buying this! Well I was wrong...DEAD WRONG. First off it seems Sharp is trying to get people more depressed that Radiohead...more depressed that even Travis! Every song is a somber miserably ballad or attempt at one that just screams either self pity, self loathing or hey I am trying really hard to be mellon collie but I am overdoing it and its not authentic. I was literally wondering when the song "bang" would end the disc of a gunshot sound. Worse is Sharps singing...he simply has the most whiniest weezy never changing pitch voice. I could see pulling this card for one song, but a whole album of him mumbling is just plain torture! The lyrics he sings are bad, and not bad as in good, bad as in they are so horribly written that you almost feel embarrassed to be caught listening to it. He used the same rhyme structure to such a degree that I was able to finish the verse before he said it-without even knowing what he was going to say. The music has no depth, like literally it sounds like a slow clicking of a accoustic and you barely hear a variable sound. Every song sounds the same, same whining, same music, same horrible voice. One song called Let Me Pass is so bad I hope I can erase it from my memory. I have no idea how he could release this with a conscience and expect is to be worth anyones money. I feel ripped off. I will give it two stars because if you are self loathing and miserable and prefer to bask in your own self pity listen to this and enjoy your sorrow. For anyone looking for something else you are misinformed.
