Londonベースに多国籍なメンバーで構成されたThe Go! Teamの

デビュー・アルバム。その一括りし難い多岐にわたったジャンルの

曲展開にはまさにパーティ・ソングと呼ぶに相応しい賑やかで弾けた

ひたすらな明るさがある。

冒頭の哀愁の色を帯びたハーモニカが心に響く“Panther Dash”、

流麗なイントロに伴われた軽快なテンポが朗らかな“Ladyflash”。

ラップなのか、インストゥルメントなのかはっきりしないが耳に

残るフレーズを繰り返す“Feelgood By Numbers”、チアリーダー

の応援歌のような“We Just Won't Be Defeated”にコミカルさを

見たと思えば、“Junior Kickstart”の荒いギターにブラスが

斬新に絡んだ間奏曲もあり、ただひたすらノリだけでは終わらない、

練られた楽曲の質はなかなか上等であり、何よりユニーク。

影響の受けた音楽は山の様にあれどそれを最終的に自分達の

オリジナルへと昇華させ、きちんと主張している。“Air Raid GTR”

は複合するリズム、ジャンルのアプローチが見事に混ざ合った出色の

一曲である。

楽しい、という気持ちを言葉で詳述することは案外難しいもので

ある。胸が踊る様なとか、笑顔の絶えない愉快な心持ち、だとか言って

言えないこともないが、いまいち伝わらない。

視覚、聴覚において実際に感じるのが最も端的な方法であり、その上で

まさにそれを音楽的に体現しているのが、彼らGo! Teamである。

近年珍しく、気恥ずかしささえ感じるほどにとにかく楽しくてエネルギーに満ち溢れた作品です。
ローファイなガレージロックを一応の基盤とした上にファンクやらヒップホップ
やらが遊び心たっぷりに散りばめられたその音は、子供の頃何につけても
無邪気に熱中していた感覚を呼び覚ます様です。
終始轟音で曲が展開されますが、リコーダーやハーモニカの奏でるキャッチーで
美しいメロディが曲の風通しを良くしていて聴きやすいです。
それに乗る女性コーラスも本当に素敵で、60〜70年代の上面だけ取った
のではなく、心底あの時代の暖かみを感じさせるものに仕上がってます。
二十歳過ぎの男がこういう表現使うのもあれなんですが、「キュンとする」
要素がほんとに多いアルバムですね。このバンドと同じ要素を持つバンド
は沢山いますが、ここまでピタッとそれらを上手いこと混ぜ合わせる
事ができる人達はそうはいないでしょう。

　音楽ってのは、言葉にならない自分の感情を音で表現するって事だと思う。それが音楽の一番ピュア-な点であって逆に間抜けなとこでもあると思う。

　でも、この　the go teamってグループ　なんか違う。なんて言うか　自分たちが聴きたい音楽を創ってるって感じ。音楽に対する接し方が違う。だからこれだけ多様なジャンルを難なくこなせるのだろう。イアン　パートンって人の頭の柔らかさを感じる。

　ボーカルを楽器みたいに使ってるのが面白い。あとドラムが滅茶苦茶カッコいい。

　これは聴く価値ありだと思う。

サンプリングと生演奏がうまく溶け合ったアナログであったかい音質がとてもいい。
全11曲36分弱で曲のほとんどインストですが高揚感溢れるキャッチーな泣きメロは
天下一品！いきなりサーフ調の猛烈ギター曲ではじまりビューティフルなファンク
そして西部劇のラストの様な哀愁漂うメロディで終わります。いまだにMDを作る時
は曲の合間にこのCDからピックアップして入れてます。アッパーチューン満載！

グランドロイヤルが残ってたらいそうな感じのバンドです。アバランチーズよりは、生演奏が多く、パンキッシュな感じがしました。キャプテンファンクなんか好きな人にも　良いのでは？

I thought it would be used when i saw the plastic bag without stickers and so the box, the box was broken but that happen when its not shipped on a box normally by Amazon. I’m not returning this because the cd its on perfect condition, so i would just replace the box jaja buy this album its so fun!

Tenía muchas ganas de hacerme con este álbum en edición vinilo y ha sido una buena oportunidad para conseguirlo, ya que no sacaban ninguna tirada desde 2005.

Esta edición en vinilo de 180 gramos viene en unos llamativos colores amarillo y naranja entremezclados (dejo una foto debajo). Trae un código para descargar en digital. Contiene la canción "We Just Won't Be Defeated", que siempre ha estado en CD pero en el lanzamiento original del vinilo no estaba, así que punto a favor. Otra cosa importante a saber es que esta edición es la original de Reino Unido (la buena), y no la que sacaron en Estados Unidos con algunos samples y voces cambiadas.

En cuanto al audio está bien, es un álbum que se nota que no fue grabado en un gran estudio, por su sonido más "casero" (Lo-Fi para los entendidos), así que no es especialmente nítido. No se trata de esta edición sino que el álbum fue grabado así y en cierto modo es parte de la gracia.

Sobre el álbum en sí, decir que es de género indietrónica/indie-rock con toques de hip hop. Muy enérgico y divertido con momentos muy épicos. Es altamente nostálgico ya que muchos sonidos (flautas, xilófonos, silbatos, armónicas, trompetas....) nos recordaran a series de televisión de los 80 como Barrio Sesamo, esto no quiere decir que sea un disco infantil, para nada.

Lo recomiendo mucho, ahora más con esta reedición en vinilo. Limitada a 2000 copias así que corre a por él.

In all honesty, I love this album, it's over 10 years since I first heard it, but it still sounds so fresh! From the beginning to the end, it's a whirlwind of punchy drums, screeching guitars, scratching & feedback. It hits you in the face, tears it off and reapplies it upside down!
After this album I became an avid follower of the band, I've seen them live no less than 6 times, grown out of three tshirts, purchased numorous cd's, vinyls even a tape, of albums, singles and EPs.

So what a treat to hear of this release for RSD16, the debut album on vinyl for the first time! :)
Sadly though, due to my work I couldn't get to my local record shop on the day, and by the time I could, all out! :(
So a little look up on Amazon, and there it was, someone was selling a copy! Yea, I know, it's not the most romantic way to acquire such a special record, but I knew once I held it in my arms, that would all be forgotten.

The much anticipated US release of The Go! Team's "Thunder, Lighting, Strike" arrived this past week with two bonus tracks. Who the heck is The Go! Team you ask? They're a new group from Brighton who have been shaking up college and satellite radio with a retro-beat. The music is so unusual that it does not belong to any known genre but is a mishmash of 60s, 70s and 80s pop culture snapshots. The only artist I can think who reminds me of this group is <a href="http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B00005B5AJ/104-4836372-5643136?v=glance&s=music&vi=samples#disc_1">"The Incredible Moses Leroy"</a>, who does some very similar synth styling to some of the riffs here. It appears they may have even borrowed some samples from "The Incredible Moses Leroy" on the album (or else have some very close facsimiles). The only way to describe the music in any comprehensive way is to go through the album tracks and try to explain what I hear happening. Everyone will probably get a different impression of the album.

01. Panther Dash - Hawaii 5-0 -style surf music with a late 80s alternative guitar riff (ala The Cure) and topped off with a harmonica riff somewhat reminiscent of 1960s Bob Dylan.

02. Ladyflash - This was the Single. Starts off with a synth riff reminiscent of a track from The Amazing Moses Leroy, it then moves into 1970s TV land before culminating in a Jackson 5 / Motown groove sprinkled in a early 70s Herbie Mann like flute riff and a finish that combines most of what came before it.

03. Feelgood by Numbers - Opens with a Herbie Hancock-ish Piano riff then moves into

04. The Power is on - Opens with another great piano riff and a chorus call that sounds like urban kids in New York in 1974 cheer leading at a power march and then moves into a horn-driven groove that resembles music from the movie "Rocky" more than anything else.

05. Get it Together - Industrial Peruvian flute rap meets the theme from St. Elsewhere with a 'visit' by Bela Fleck on banjo (...if you can imagine that) finished off with major scratch up. Just when you thought it couldn't get any wilder.

06. We Just won't be Defeated - One of the bonus tracks on the US release that is not on the UK release. The <u>Rocky</u> music is back with an uplifting cheerleaders chorus call and a 'visit' by Elton John on the piano.

07. Junior Kickstart - This song combines the themes from Track 01 and Track 06 and picks up the tempo. One of the more rockin' songs on the album.

08. Air Raid GTR - Stylized air raid sirens. Might be useful in a DJ mix.

09. Bottle Rocket - More 1970s TV show-like riffs and 'Rocky' stuff with some harmonica and rapping chorus. Also getting some airplay on college stations.

10. Friendship Update - The theme here is string, piano, horn and harmonica that sounds like theme music from 70s TV show. I have visions of Little House on the Prairie, Mary Tyler Moore and The Waltons.

11. Hold your Terror Close - This is the other bonus track on the US release. This drastic departure from form is simply piano with a girl singing. It sounds like it was recorded from a recital in a school gymnasium. I get a vague "Cat Power" vibe from the vocals and lyrics.

12. Huddle Formation - Back to cheer leading with mostly electronic groove backing up.

13. V.I.P. to Someone - This last song has the best sound quality on the album. It sounds like Bela Fleck on banjo meets The Amazing Moses Leroy on synth and then moves into this 60s-70s western TV show harmonica groove backed with thick, bright analog strings. Then we get repeated a variation on the harmonica theme first with horns and then digital strings. A very nicely done piece.
