　２枚のLD作品が１枚になったDVDソフトで、ジャケット写真の左下の１枚目はLDで持っているのですが、２枚目は今更LDで入手が無理だしDVD化でどれほど良くなっているのか興味があって入手しました。
　１枚目のLDをLD-X1で再生して比較しました。画質の面ではノイズの少なく細かいところまで見えるDVDに軍配が上がりますが、音質面ではDVDがAC-3の圧縮音声のためか、比較すると細かい音が出ていません。
　おそらく、DVDソフトだけ聴かされれば、それほど気にならない部分かもしれませんが、せっかく２層DVDに収録し容量にも余裕があるのですから、PCM音声を入れて欲しいところです。
　注意点としてはリージョンコードが北米向けの「１」になっていて、国産DVDプレーヤーでは全く再生できませんでしたが、安売りの輸入BDプレーヤーであっけなく再生でき、おまけにHDMI接続で1080Pまでアップコンバート再生できました。
　内容的には１枚目も２枚目も同じ会場での演奏で、特に２枚目のフルート奏者「デイブ・バレンタイン」の楽しい演奏が見もので、比較的、安価なソフトですので揃えていても無駄にはならないと思います。

my uncle is Carlos Vega. he taught me drums and he was one of the nicest, coolest guys i've ever known. i remember the day he passed as if it were yesterday. seeing him lay it down on this dvd makes me both ecstatic and depressed at the same time. i think the what makes this concert tip it more towards the happy side is watching abe laboriel get into it...these guys are heavy hitters.

On August 14, 1985, a concert of GRP artists was held in the big room at the Record Plant in Los Angeles. It was recorded for both audio and video release. The lineup was Dave Grusin (keyboards), Lee Ritenour (guitar), Dianne Schuur (vocals), Dave Valentin (flute), Ivan Lins (keyboards, vocals), Larry Williams (keyboards, sax), Abraham Laboriel (bass), and Carlos Vega (drums). A special guest, Phil Perry, was brought in to sing on Lee Ritenour's "Countdown" at the end of the show.

This single concert was released to the public in several variations - none of them complete. There was a CD called "GRP Live in Session" and a video called "GRP Live in Session", with identical covers but different tracks. Then there were two releases under the names "GRP All-Stars Live from the Record Plant" and "Dave Grusin & Lee Ritenour Live at the Record Plant"; those are the two DVD's in this set, and between them, you end up with the whole show, although it's chopped up and resequenced.

I've been hoping for years that there would be a single release of the entire show, end to end and in original sequence, but I've stopped holding my breath. Still, with this set, you can experience a rare combination of incredible talent, inspired performances, and exquisite sound & video quality. Get it before they take it off the market again (maybe to be chopped apart and mixed into some new combo package....).

I had part of this performance on a VHS release . It's great to see it again after all these years and with many more tracks . The image is not as crisp as I remember watching it on my then Sony Trinitron (remember that ?) . But the sound is great and the performance is superb . The image is good ... not great . Nevertheless , I recommend it !

Lee Ritenour, Dave Grusin and the GRP All-Stars Live from the Record Plant captures live performances from these highly talented and versatile musicians in 1985. This particular DVD is volume 4 in a set of live performances made between 1984 and 1992 featuring some of the leading jazz talents from around the world. Volume 4 contains some exceptional virtuoso solos as well as some memorable melodies and this combination enables even the beginner in jazz to appreciate the improvisational talents of the musicians involved. This volume contains a set of live performances well worth the viewing and listening.
