This has long been one of my favorite albums. At first listen the warbly multi-layered finger picked guitar tracks can somewhat blend together, but where that can be a boring note on many albums "Fi" really creates a fantastic atmosphere that you can really cozy up in. A great album for a walk in nature, a drive, or just reading a book at home. At the time of release this album really did something I had not heard: a heavy use of layering what is now common place and commonly known as "foley" - mundane textural sounds like rain or wind in trees, that really adds a gorgeous backdrop to some really skilled and gorgeous instrumentation that melds and blends together as it moves through moods and soundscapes. The album has gorgeous artwork and also comes with an MP3 download code if you order the Vinyl, so at $4 extra it is an obvious steal.
Bibio Fi is my all-time favorite album and is the one I would choose if I could only listen to one album for the rest of my life. There are many other albums that come close, but this is the only one that I don't have to "edit" myself.
This is partly to balance out the one star review that someone gave. Brilliant debut that showcased Bibio's lo-fi guitar soundscapes. Some would like him to stay in this vein, but I for one am glad that he's progressed to show some different sides of his sound.
