This film is the strongest I have ever seen. "Surrender Dorothy", "Christine F" are all great Heroin films BUT if you want to see and experience the life of a individual who has been held captive by junk - this is it. Clearly the best so far.
Very Graphic and Real Documentary about Drug Addiction. This is the story of a few homeless Heroin Addicts struggling to survive in the mean streets of NYC. I am a recovery drug addict myself, so seeing documentary's like this keeps it green for me. This documentary exposes the fact that being a Heroin Addict is a 24/7/365 lifestyle. Being a Heroin addict isn't a job anymore, it becomes a LIFESTYLE. Using to 'feel normal' and not be 'dope sick'. I know this all too well because I been there. This documentary is REALITY at it's best. A must see for all recovering drug addicts , or people that are OPEN-MINDED and want to understand drug addiction more...
Unions Square is a good documentary of the homeless heroin addict, but does not provide a comprehensive picture of what it's like to be addicted to opiates. Most are polysubstance abusers. Most are employed. Most have not completely burned their bridges with their families and society. I was looking for a documentary that showed a comprehensive picture of addiction rather than the bottom of the barrel. I also hoped to see some suburban and rural addicts. Union Square was good for what it was, but I was disappointed that the focus was so narrow.
