Leaders of the Free World was recorded and produced by the band at Blueprint Studios in Manchester through late 2004 and the start of 2005 with additional mixing by Tom Roth rock at Sunset Studios in Los Angeles and Marius de Vries at Olympic Studios in London. Leaders of the Free World is the Manchester indie stars' 3rd studio album which is a completely collaborative project between the band and filmmakers/animators/visual artists, the Soup Collective. Features 11 total tracks including the first single 'Forget Myself'. V2 Records. 2005.

明るい。彼らにしては明るい。突き抜けるまではいかないにせよ、陽の部分を感じさせるアルバムです。
バンドとしては全くブレない。かっこいいです。

私には難しいことは解りませんが・・アルバムに収められている１１曲に似通った曲がなく、１曲１曲が違う味をもっています。
１組のアーティストのアルバムと思えないほど違った魅力を楽しめます。
ボーカルのGuy garveyの語りかける様な太くて低い声が心に浸み込み目を閉じて聴き入ってしまいます。６曲目がまさにそうです。アップテンポの曲でもうるさく感じないのは何故？と思ってしまいます。
演奏力、構成、ボーカルの力強いなかにも落ち着いた声質なのかなぁ・・・・・？

お気に入りは３・５・７曲ですが・・・・勿論　全部です。
ためらわずに聴いてみて下さい！！！！！

クライマックスに向かって盛り上がっていく様がラヴェルのボレロを

思わせる(1)を始め、全体に優れた構成力を見せる曲が多い。

基本的に、奇数番にはスケールの大きいプログレッシヴ・ロック的な曲、

偶数番にはアコースティックな質感の内省的な曲が配置されており、

一曲ごとに対照的な曲調の間を行き来する。

キャッチーではないため、一度聴いただけでは理解しにくいが、

聴けば聴くほど味わいが増してくる作品だ。

彼らの作品は一度や二度聴いただけでは、その魅力は理解できない。
聴けば聴くほどその世界にどっぷりはまることだろう。
今までの作品の中では一番聴きやすいであろうこのサードアルバムは
一番歌を大事にした作品である。
音と歌の調和がすばらしく、情緒派UKファンにこそ聴いてほしい作品です。
一度聴いて気に入らなくても半年、一年後に聴けば、また違ったものとなると思います。　
日本盤よりも輸入盤をお勧めします。日本盤は途中にボーナストラックが2曲入っており、
彼らの世界観を崩します。オリジナルの輸入盤でぜひ！

This album is stupidly good. It shouldn't be this good. Stop penning such great anthems and recording unique soundscapes. Seriously Elbow, less good please!

My first exposure to Elbow was the Seldom Seen Kid. I grew so attached to that album, that I decided to check this album out.

While I initially felt like The Seldom Seen Kid was the better of the two albums, I can honestly say that at this point it is hard to tell or even care. This album continues to get better and better with each listen. In my review for the Seldom Seen kid, I think I suggested a similarity between Elbow and Peter Gabriel's work in that there was a multi-cultural twist to the music that really makes it stand on its own. I realize with this album and many many listens of the these two recent album, that may not be entirely correct, and this album really makes Elbow stand on their own as a unique band that will obviously keep ascending the ranks of popularity. They are just too good not to.

This album has all the quality that the Seldom Seen Kid had, but it doesn't sound like a rehashing (or more properly that album doesn't seem like a rehash of this one). They are each fantastic albums. This album rocks quite a bit and has a bit of a rawer edge to it. It may be the production or may just be that it really is rawer, but it by no means this album isn't good. Production is over-valued sometimes, and the production here by no means misses. If anything, it makes you appreciate the lyrical quality of the album, and it is really superb. This may be the aspect that really lifts Elbow to the top in my mind. The lyrics makes you think. They don't get boring. That may be something that rises to Peter Gabriel's level regardless of the sound. I am a large U2 fan, and the lyrics and music are akin but easily exceed those you might have found in The Unforgettable Fire or The Joshua Tree. The lyrics and music of this album (and the Seldom Seen Kid) are vague enough to be timeless, and that really is the mark of a great band.

The combination of this album and the Seldom Seen Kid, really make me want to explore what Elbow was like before. They may not be the same, but different is often good.

Elbow somehow managed to produce three albums under my radar and it was only the publicity which was afforded to the excellent forth offering, the 'Seldom Seen Kid' which brought them to my attention. I am ashamed to admit it but feel I am probably not alone in this. I was therefore quite keen to listen to some of their earlier stuff and, as Amazon are currently offering their other albums for between £3-£4, I thought it was certainly worth a gamble so bought all three. So far I have only listened to 'Leaders of the Free world' and I must confess that I was blown away. I haven't heard an album so instantly abosorbing since, well, since Seldom seen kid' actually.

Where to begin: The opening track, strangely named 'Station Approach' sets the tone for the album which is just simply beautiful from start to finish, taking you on an emotional journey all the way through to the final simple but moving 'puncture repair'. I will not bore you by going through all tracks individually, detailing their merits. There is no need as there are no weak tracks or filler on this recording and I would just be repeating superlatives. I must just mention a couple of tracks which are among my favourites: Forget Myself has an irresistibly catchy tune and rich production, reminiscent of 'Grounds for Divorce' which follows on the next album: Great Expectations is one of those tracks which makes your skin go goose-bumby and makes the hair stand up on the back of your neck. It's rare for music to effect you so physically. Listen and weep. I did (especially the weeping).

Treat yourself to this album. You deserve it and at £2.98 at the moment, it's hardly going to break the bank, is it?

Elbow haben es wieder geschafft. Ein Album voller Magie.
Für Menschen die diese Band schätzen und kennen, gibt es nicht viel zu geben außer ewiges Lob. Für alle die diese extrenisch, verträumt-innovative Romantik-Combo aus England nicht kennen, sei vermerkt, dass sie irgendwo zwischen Radiohead, Coldplay und Peter Gabriel stehen: Bittersüß, zweifelnd und wunderschön romantisch.
Geschichten über imaginäre Alkoholiker (An Imagined Affair), sehnsüchtige Erinnerungen (Great Expectations), gepaart mit konfusen Großstadt-Hymen (Forget myself), die wie keine anderen die selbstsuchende Seite von London wiedergeben können.
Wurde auf dem Vorgänger produktiv noch aus dem Fenster gelehnt,
geht "Leaders Of The Free World" wieder zurück zur Intimität des gewaltigen Erstlings "Asleep In The Back" Klavier und Akkustikgitarren haben wieder mehr Platz, und werden durch die innovativen Beats und Verkünstlungen von "Cast of Thousands"
erleuchtet, die diesmal noch besser ins Gesamtkonzept passen, denn auf Pomp wird diesmal verzichtet ohne dabei an Intensität zu verlieren.
Und das denkt Sänger und Texter Guy Garvey über seine Band (persiflierend zu einem Statement von Franz Ferdinand):
"If Franz Ferdinand try to make dance music for fashionable girls, I try to make music for grown-up sad men"
Elbow behaupten sich als gebührende "Nachfolger", nein wohl eher "Weiterführende" von intelligenten englischen Bands wie Radiohead und The Verve.
Sicherlich neben Sigur Rós das intellektuelle Highlight des Musikjahres nullfünf.
Meisterwerk.
