「ブレヒト　ミーツ　パンクロック」

こう呼ばれているらしい。

ブレヒトとは１９００年代に活躍したドイツの劇作家のこと。

ゴシックな雰囲気は正にそんな感じ。

ピアノ/ヴォーカルの女性とドラムの男性の二人編成が変わってるなあと思って、それ以外の何の情報もないままフジロックでの初来日を観た。

ライブ凄すぎ。終わった後すぐにＣＤ買いにいってしまったぐらい。おそらくは自分と同じように前情報が無いお客さんがほとんどだったと思うけど、終わった後ものすごい拍手。

ライブの凄さをＣＤで表現するにはさすがに難しいとは思うけど、それでも凄い。なんというか、ものすごい迫力。また観たい。

ドレスデンドールズの曲は、例えばクラシックの様に 、何か用事をしていてもそれだけに聴き入ってしまう深みを持っています。
機械類を使わない生のピアノ、ドラムに思わず感嘆!

　『FRF '05』レッド・マーキーでの「THE WHITE STRIPES（'02）の再現か？」という程の圧倒的なパフォーマンスを見せてくれた彼ら（ちなみに，男がドラム，女がピアノの編成）のアルバム．
　
　フジからの帰宅後，即オーダーしたわけですが，アルバムだとライヴでの2人のプレイヤーの魅力が半減以下．．．
　
　確かに，ここに収録された楽曲はフジでプレイされた楽曲なのだけど，アルバムだとこじんまりした感が否めないわけです．
確かに，"Missed Me"を聴くと，あの日の光景が思い起こされるわけですが，あの日，あの場所で感じた何かには程遠く．．．正直な所，肩透かし．
　これは単に，彼らが本作をリリース後に力をつけてきたユニットとなったからなのか，単純に，スタジオ・ワークとしてイマイチなのかは，次作以降の判断かな？
　とはいえ，再来日となれば行くしかないですよ．
　（じゃ，予習用に買うしかないのか？というか，再来日実現のためにも買っていただくようお願いかな？）
　ちなみに，エンハンスドになっていて，"Girl Anachronism"のヴィデオが見れます．

It can be very...what is that word...transgressive...and not in a bad way. Forces you to rethink judgments, assumptions and is blunt, raw and yet, at moments, also oddly touching and moving.

Listen closely to this one. There is raw anger here but also a commitment to honesty, a willingness to experiment and take changes and throw one opinions in the listener's ears, take it or leave it. THis isn't any wavering type of music, there are firm viewpoints expressed, although doubts creep in.

The punk cabaraet title that so many have bandied around about the music truly does fit. Coin Operated Boy smacks of Cabaret (the Joey Grey version). Track 8, about cutting, is sung in a quick, staccato type way, and if there can be a reverent song about such a subject, this qualifies. I never thought I'd call such a song "great" but this one is. Make you see the world a Cutter, takes you inside, evokes sympathy and understanding.

Track 12 is the perfect ending piece Soft, lyrical and yet disconcerting. This is music which is complex enough to bear up for repeated listenings and it reaches deep into your subconsious. Depending on your mood, you'll interpret it slightly differently from day to day. Some of the songs are enigmatic but the lyrics are pure poetry and like so much poetry,open to interpretation. It takes you out of your normal world and someplace else where it is okay to feel...not normal, not "the same". I find it therapeutic.

It must be odd to get so far in a review and hear so little about they lyrics or specific pieces. That is because it is more of a presentation piece, a complete package and works as such, with some of the lyrics sounding flat withouth the complexity of the vocals and instrumentals to make them stand out.

Think of this CD as a piece of art, some tunes (like number 6, Coin-Operated Boy, being both surreal, sarcastic and imaginary while noting "Love without Complications galore...I will never leave my bedroom. Can you extract me from my plastic factory?"

But be forewarned: it isn't for the conservative or those who are squeamish about nontraditional topics. EVERYTHING from "cutting" to sexuality of all sorts is covered, in graphic detail, but the sheer originality and talent of the members of this group transcend any stereotypes. You will love this or hate it. You won't be indifferent, however. It absolutely haunts me.

Viele Nachwuchsbands beklagen sich über die unerbittliche Härte der Musikindustrie, die den idealistischen Schulfreunden, die doch einfach nur Musik machen wollen, keine Chance lässt. Eine Band wie die Dresden Dolls beweist, dass das man den Hörern einfach nur etwas neues bieten muss, um Anklang zu finden. Erst wenn man nach langem Suchen wieder einmal eine Band findet, die so außergewöhnliche Musik macht, kommt einem wieder zu Bewusstsein, wie weit die Musikindustrie bereits in ihrem Einheits-Sumpf versunken ist. Ich wüsste nichts, was man mit den Dresden Dolls vergleichen könnte, sie bieten eine vollkommen neue Musikerfahrung.
Natürlich finden sich die vielzitierten Einflüsse von Chanson, Hardrock und Kabarett, aber trotz allem reichen all diese Bezeichnungen nicht aus, um dieses musikalische Endprodukt zusammenfassen.
Die emotionale, vieloktavige Stimme der Sängerin sorgt schon bei der ersten Nummer, der todtraurigen Ballade „Good Day“ für Gänsehaut. Doch wer nun meint, die Dresden Dolls hätten nur schwermütige Weisen in ihrem Repertoire, irrt sich. Das nächste Lied „Girl Anachronism“ ist ein wütend-schmetternder Ohrwurm, der beweist, dass man auch mit einem Klavier aggressive Musik machen kann.
So findet sich auf diesem Album für jede Stimmungslage mindestens ein Lied, die Texte reichen von melancholisch bis hin zu schnippisch und boshaft. Ich habe diese CD blind gekauft, seither läuft sie fast täglich. Alleine mit einem Piano, einem Schlagzeug, einer Gitarre und einer wunderbaren Stimme, haben hier zwei Originalgenies eine Platte abgeliefert, die beweist, dass es doch noch unerforschte Musikrichtungen gibt, für die wir nur bis jetzt einfach noch keinen Namen haben.
