If you are lucky enough to see this version before the American KOF Orochi Collection, do yourself three favors.
1. BUY THIS VERSION!!! DO NOT BUY (I REPEAT) DO NOT BUY THE US VERSION! If you ever played KOF in the 90s on Playstation, Sega Saturn, or NEO GEO CD, DO NOT BUY THE US VERSION. This is the KOF you want. It has the arranged soundtracks on it and it has the NEOGEO CD version of the game optimized for PS2 (NO LOAD TIMES!!!!).
2). DO NOT BUY THE US VERSION OF KOF OROCHI COLLECTION. It is a waste, unless you want to have PS2 ports of the Neo Geo MVS KOF 94-98. You will be stuck with the MVS animation and the 'original' MVS OSTs. I did this and I was pissed. Especially given that Art of Fighting Collection and the Fatal Fury Collections are direct US ports of their Japanese anniversary collections (With Arranged Soundtracks minus Online play and NeoGeo Mode), respectively. The US KOF collection is not the same as the Japanese KOF anniversary collection(s). Orochi saga in Japan is sold as 95,96,97. SNK also released NEST Saga as a Japan only release consisting of 99 Evolution, 2000, and 2001. Because KOF does not have a big fan base in North America, SNK did not bother bringing over Orochi/NEST saga with the NEOGEO CD ports, NeoGeo MVS mode, and online play because Sony of America was notoriously hostile towards 2D game releases in the US market (They would not tolerate a 2D game selling at $49.95 unless it was sold as collections. US KOF Orochi Collection is a watered down compendium of the pre-NEST saga KOFs to keep pricing down while also giving US KoF fans what they wanted. Also, America is full of SF fanboys, so I am sure the licensing cost didn't justify bringing full blown anniversary collections to a 'bear market' (KOF is popular in Latin America and Asia, not so much Europe/USA).
3. DO NOT, I REPEAT, DO NOT BUY SWAP MAGIC 3.8. It is incompatible with the Japanese Orochi and NEST Saga releases of KOF for PS2. I did and I was pissed. I lost $30 only to end up buying a used slim Japanese PS2. Save yourself the trouble as well and just find one...they are relatively cheap...but worth the price...
