Funeral For A Furiend好きなら必聴かも。でもあくまでメタルな感じの音です。要試聴。

"The Poison" blends a very healthy blend of metalcore/hardcore, thrash metal, and melodic death metal with an awesome batch of songs that are both heavy as hell, yet very melodic at the same time, and filled with blistering and pounding guitar riffs and blazing solos, super awesome drumming, and a mix of clean/harsh vocals, thus resulting in a very fresh and impressive sounding modern metalcore album that really stands above the majority of the pack. The musicianship on this album is very solid and impressive here. The guys in Bullet For My Valentine are really great musicians who really know how to play and rock hard, and have actual musical talent unlike Britney Spears, Flo Rida, Lil' Wayne, Justin Bieber, Miley Cyrus, Timbalaand, Nicki Minaij, Lady Gaga, and the rest of all those talentless and overrated mainstream pop and rap hacks that pollute the airwaves day in and day out. Frontman Matthew Tuck (who also plays guitar) really does such an impressive job at blending clean, melodic singing and harsh, heavy yells and screams together, and meanwhile lead guitarist Michael "Padge" Paget really shines here with his awesome, blistering, and pounding riffs, and killer, blazing, and shredding solos on here especially on cuts such as "Her Voice Resides", "Tears Don't Fall", "4 Words (To Choke Upon), and "The Poison" which feature some really killer solos. Elsewhere, bassist Jason "Jay" James lays down some strong, solid bass work, and meanwhile, drummer Michael "Moose" Thomas pounds and hammers his way with some very impressively super awesome drumming throughout as well, and he also really does some solid double bass kicking too. Another thing I'd like to point out is the album's production which is handled by veteran producer Colin Richardson, and the production on here is really solid, and strong as well, so a big thumbs up definitely goes to Colin on his overall production.
Standout tracks included:
After beginning with the brief, soft and melodic instrumental opener, the appropriately entitled "Intro" (which also features cellos from the band Apocalyptica), the album then segues right into the following cut "Her Voice Resides" which is definitely one of my favorite tracks that bursts right out of the starting gates with super heavy yelling, along with fiery, heavy chugging riffs, and blistering, pounding drums. The song is later highlighted by an awesomely melodic, ripping, and shredding guitar solo from Padge as well. Next up, we have "4 Words (To Choke Upon)" which is another huge standout track that is anchored by heavily pounding rhythms that include some awesome double bass drumming, along with chunks of heavy, pounding riffage and catchy melodies (including some awesome opening guitar melodies in the beginning), plus another awesomely ripping, yet melodic solo, and the song also features some cleanly sung vocals mixed with the heavy yells and screams, as well as an awesome chorus which includes some gang-shouted vocals as well. Moving on, track four, "Tears Don't Fall" is another one of my favorites that is a more partially restrained and melodic number that is highlighted by some nice clean guitar plucking in the beginning, along with great melodic guitar work and clean singing from Tuck especially in the song's chorus, and is later highlighted by a couple a blazing, breakneck tempo changes in which the song thrusts into some machine-gun riffing and hammering drums, and there's also another killer, ripping, razor fast solo from Padge (and probably my favorite guitar solo on the whole album) thrown in as well for good measure. Track five, "Suffocating Under Words of Sorrow (What Can I Do)" is also another big standout track here that boasts fast, stomping, energetic drumming and galloping double bass kicks, along with fast, chugging, pounding riffs and catchy melodic leads, plus another awesome solo, as well as more great harsh/clean vocals from Tuck, and a fantastic chorus to boot.
Moving onwards, we have track six, "Hit the Floor" which is another favorite of mine here that features some excellent opening riffs and drums, as well as some great melodic lead work in the beginning, and it also includes some more awesome, scorching riffage, and excellent clean vocals from Tuck, along with another amazing melodic chorus, as well as a catchy sing-a-long "Whoa-oh-oh" part as well. The following track "All These Things I Hate (Revolve Around Me)" is the album's most melodic track here (and another great song as well) as it is driven by awesomely melodic guitar work (including a nice acoustic guitar intro), and excellent melodic sung vocals from Tuck, and a great chorus as well, meanwhile following that is "Room 409" which is a lot more heavier than it's predecessor as it is highlighted by more of Tuck's heavily awesome yells and screams especially when he screams out "YEEEAAAHHH" in the beginning, and also includes more heavy, fast pounding drums, and chunky, meaty riffing and a short, but sweet ripping solo, and an awesomely heavy chorus as well.
Next is the album's title track "The Poison" and is also another favorite of mine here that anchors more heavy, chugging riffing and harmonic leads, and thunderous, stomping drum beats, and a great mix of harsh screams and clean singing, plus another fantastic clean sung chorus, as well as another outstandingly melodic, and deliciously shredding solo from Padge at the 1:45 mark, and there are some sweet double bass fills which are also included after the solo too. Track twelve, "Spit You Out" is another great, solid heavy track that boasts a very catchy, energetic, and groovy, upbeat vibe throughout with lots of fast screaming vocals from Tuck, and also bolsters yet more of the band's awesomely heavy, chugging, and pounding riff work, and pummeling double bass drumming, and another great chorus, and bassist Jason "Jay" James also gets an opportunity to really shine on this track as he lays down a really sick bass riff around the 3:10 mark. Then closing things out is the dark and haunting 7 minute epic "The End" which is my favorite track on the album, and such an excellent album closer here as well. I would definitely say that this song here would really have to be heavily influenced by the classic Pantera song "This Love". On this song, Tuck and co. do such an amazing job alternating between dark and haunting, clean guitar melodies and clean vocals, and monstrously powerful, pummeling riffs, and heavy screams throughout in such brilliant fashion. The chorus is also top notch, and the song is also highlighted by a more faster up-beat tempo around the 3:37 mark which includes some heavy, stomping double bass drums, and more heavy, pummeling riffage as well.
Overall, I was very, very surprised with "The Poison", and I really wish that I would've bought this album a long time ago too, and yes, this is coming from someone who loves 80's and 90's metal like Slayer, Metallica, Iron Maiden, Dio, Megadeth, Anthrax, and Pantera, and this album definitely does have a lot of great 80's metal influences mixed in with the modern stuff (Trivium, Killswitch Engage, Shadows Fall, Lamb of God) as well. So anyways, if you're looking for an awesome modern metal/metalcore album that is filled with heavy, pounding riffs and killer, shredding solos, pounding drums, plenty of melody, and a lot of attitude and aggression, then "The Poison" is definitely the album for you. I highly recommend this album to any fan of metal or metalcore or hell even both since it blends both genres very well...Buy it now!!! \m/ \m/
