劇場公開された週末の興行収益のよさもさることながら、『バタフライ・エフェクト』は家で、後ろめたく思いながら見るのもまた楽しい作品だ。脚本兼監督のエリック・ブレス、J・マッキー・グラバーのコンビ（2人は『デッドコースター』の原案を書いている）は、場当たり的に論理が展開するルールを崩しておらず、品のないサスペンスである本作も不快感をいっぱいにして、永遠の破滅が魅力的な選択肢に思えるように仕立ててある。アシュトン・カッチャーが、TVシリーズ「That '70s Show」のキャラクターとは逆転して、心理学を学ぶ大学生を演じる。彼は子供のころの日記を読み返して、自分の過去を訪れ、トラウマになっている出来事を変えることができることに気づき、以前の不幸な結果を良くしたいと願う。だがその代わりに、「バタフライ・エフェクト」というカオス理論（本作の題名であり、『ジュラシック・パーク』でジェフ・ゴールドブラムが演じたキャラクターによって有名になった理論）による向こう見ずな経験が、悪夢のように続く様々な出来事となる。どの出来事も彼や彼の友人たちにとって悲惨な結末となる。この興味深い前提条件は、いくつかの面白いひねりによって探求されるが、児童ポルノ、動物虐待、神を冒涜する暴力的な子どもたちといったわき筋によって娯楽映画と呼べる作品になっている。（Jeff Shannon, Amazon.com）

何度も見ている大好きな作品　ふと思い出し、
買おうと思った時にはすでに遅く配信も販売もされていませんでした

二枚組のコメンタリーも別エンディングもあるDVDを
今回やっと入れることができて　大変満足です
翌日には発送され品質も申し訳ありませんでした

内容に関しては　今更語る事もない珠玉のSFラブストーリー
不良確認のために少し再生してみたつもりが
次々に心が揺さぶられるエピソードが押し寄せ最後まで観てしまいました　
もう４、5回は観ているというのに。。

2004年アメリカ製作のSFサスペンス作品。
バタフライ・エフェクト(バタフライ効果)とは、非常に些細な小さなことが様々な要因を引き起こしだんだんと大きな現象へと変化することで、この概念を最初に発表した気象学者エドワード・ローレンツの講演名「ブラジルでの蝶の羽ばたきはテキサスでトルネードを引き起こすか」から来ているそうな。
映画界では、1985年の「バック・トゥ・ザ・フューチャー」にみられる、タイムトラベルで過去を改竄して結果がどうなるか? が有名か。
本作はそのシリアス版のようなものだが、正直今観ると少しばかり陳腐。
当時はヒットして、その後パート3まで続くが、ネットの評価見る限り本作は超えてなさそうだ。

劇場版を見た後にディレクターカットを見ました。
どちらもエンディングは儚く綺麗な印象を受けました。
でもやっぱりこのテーマで、ここまで温めた脚本ならば
ディレクターズカットのエンディングがベストだと思いました。
確かにこの作品には気になる点がありますが
エンディングで巻き返せる程に強いメッセージが込められています。
正直言うと、何回も見たいとは思えない作品です。
しかし１回見た時の衝撃はかなり強いと思います。
心に重く響いてきます。
劇場版のエンディング…最後の主人公達がすれ違う部分は
感動しましたね。
挿入歌で OASIS の Stop Crying Your Heart Out を使っているのも
最高です。
これほど、このストーリーにこの曲がマッチするとは…。
この曲の歌詞を考えると、やっぱり劇場版でないと合わないのかな。
もうひとつのエンディングも見れて満足です。

それから、アシュトンの演技にも注目ですね。
コメディーからシリアス、どんどん幅を広げている彼はこれから
もっと注目されるでしょうね。
スティーブ・ジョブズを演じる事によって日本でも知らない
人はいないくらいに有名になる事でしょう。
これからも期待しています。

Bellissimo film, ottima edizione ma essendo io un genio ho preso l'edizione in tedesco e l'ho aperto dopo un mese quindi ora sto studiando a Berlino per poter godere a pieno dell'edizione acquistata. Il film è un capolavoro, il tedesco risulta rude anche quando non serve ma ha il suo fascino.

Film sans prétention et sorti en salles en 2004, relativement passé inaperçu auprès du grand public et boudé par les critiques, on pourrait penser qu’il s’agit encore d’une production sans grand intérêt. Eh bien non ! C’est même tout le contraire. Basé sur un scénario à la fois inventif, original et complexe, la trame de l’histoire se révèle incroyablement riche, bifurquant sur des chemins différents à chaque nouveau changement du passé par le personnage principal, l’intrigue suit son cours au fil du temps, terriblement bien écrite, elle offre des retournements de situation et des moments d’émotion, équivalents à des montagnes russes, sans aucun temps mort, qui retourneront le spectateur, lui assénant une claque bien méritée. Un vrai petit bijou dans le genre fantastique.
Depuis son enfance, Evan a d’importants problèmes de mémoire, il est emmené par sa mère, chez un médecin, qui lui recommande de tenir un journal, afin de garder une trace de ses souvenirs. Il devient ami avec Lenny et rencontre Kayleigh et son frère Tommy, qui emménagent chez leur père. Devenu adolescent, lors d’une balade en forêt, Evan avoue ses sentiments à Kayleigh, ce qui provoque la fureur de son frère Tommy, dont les tendances psychopathes se font de plus en plus profondes, Lenny se retrouve blessé et transporté d’urgence à l’hôpital. A la suite de cet incident, Evan déménage avec sa mère, tout en promettant à Kayleigh de revenir pour la sauver. Sept ans plus tard, alors qu’il mène de brillantes études, Evan décide de retrouver Kayleigh, son ancien amour, afin de lui poser des questions qui pourraient combler les trous de sa mémoire, mais toujours traumatisée par son passé, elle se suicide le jour d’après. Evan prend alors connaissance qu’il peut modifier son passé en retournant sur les lieux notés dans ses journaux intimes, il décide de sauver Kayleigh, mais il se rend également compte que cela modifie le destin de ses amis d’enfance, ainsi que la famille proche.
Côté technique, le Blu Ray livre une galette, digne du support HD. L’image est superbe, affichant une restauration et une netteté de très bonne qualité, avec nombre de détails. La colorimétrie n’est pas en reste, le rendu est dynamique et plein de chaleur et le contraste bénéficie d’un noir intense. Le son assure un parfait équilibre. Il est à noter que le traitement de la Version Française est impeccable, mais ma préférence va à la Version Originale avec Sous-Titres Français, plus dense et plus compact, les véritables voix apposées des acteurs étant plus solides, ce qui signifie toujours un plaisir renouvelé. Mais chacun fera selon son choix.
La distribution choisie révèle un sans faute avec des acteurs parfaits. Tout d’abord, on commence avec Aston KUTCHER, qui incarne Evan, tourmenté depuis son enfance, il essaie de modifier les événements tragiques qui arrivent à la jeune femme qu’il aime et à ses amis, c’est la vraie surprise du film, habituellement peu habitué à naviguer dans le registre dramatique, il prouve ici tout son talent, en démontrant toute une palette d’émotions très riches et complexes, assurément son meilleur rôle sur grand écran.
Amy SMART et William Lee SCOTT interprètent Kayleigh et Tommy, sœur et frère traumatisés dans leur enfance, ils réagiront de manière complétement opposée, elle essaiera de s’en sortir en tournant la page, il deviendra de plus en plus violent jusqu’à commettre l’irréparable, l’actrice sort un jeu tout en finesse et en subtilité, suivant la situation présente, le comédien fait carrément froid dans le dos à chacune de ses apparitions et parvient à refléter la violence de son personnage jusqu’à l’extrême.
Elden HENSON campe Lenny, qui subit bien malgré lui les conséquences des choix de ses amis, il est impeccable et parvient à restituer les divers aspects de son personnage dans toutes les situations possibles, sans conteste celui dont le destin évolue le plus à chaque modification.
Maitrisé de bout en bout, ce film à la croisée des chemins, brasse divers genres existants bien connus, comme le thriller, le drame ou encore le fantastique, afin de nous les resservir sous une forme proche, mais tellement différente de la précédente, afin de mieux assembler les pièces du puzzle, qui servent à la construction finale d’un édifice complexe, sans pour autant perdre le spectateur, grâce à des explications très bien fournies, bénéficiant notamment d’un montage finement agencé, nous conduisant vers une conclusion surprenante, mais en parfaite adéquation avec le sujet proposé. Intelligent et captivant. Que demander de plus ?

This is an extremely clever, moving and well acted film, and a good antidote to the type of film in which changing the past is made to appear relatively straightforward. But it packs a major sting in the tail and is not one to watch if you want to be cheered up.

The title "The Butterfly effect" is a reference to the behaviour of sensitive systems under chaos theory, and the film starts with the famous quote about how the flap of a butterfly's wings can cause a tornado on the other side of the world six months later. The film could almost have been subtitled "Or: The Law of Unintended Consequences."

The central character is Evan, a boy whose father and grandfather died in mental hospitals and who appears to have inherited a strange condition from them. Evan is portrayed brilliantly as a young adult by Ashton Kutcher, as a 7-year old by Logan Lerman, and as a teenager by John Patrick Amedori.

As a boy Evan has blackouts at times of extreme stress when he does things which can be very strange and scary, and then has no memory of them. To try to help with this, his mother (Melora Walters) encourages him to keep a daily journal.

Evan grows up to become a brilliant student, and then discovers than by reading his diaries and concentrating he can send his consciousness, including his adult memories, back to the time he was reading about. Then he realises that he can try to change the past.

After the suicide of his childhood friend Kayleigh (played as an adult by Amy Smart) Evan sends his mind back to a traumatic childhood event, which he correctly identifies as the start of the process which put Kayleigh on the path to despair and premature death. At first it appears that he has succeeded in transforming her life for the better - but then a side effect of his actions causes something else to go horribly wrong.

Each time Evan tries to go back to undo either one of the original life-wrecking mistakes which he or someone else had made, or the harmful results of his previous meddling, the butterfly effect - and the law of unintended consequences - means that a fresh disaster occurs. Evan does sometimes succeed in saving someone's life or happiness, but only at the price of devastating repercussions for another person.

All three actors who play Evan bring him to life brilliantly, and the acting of the rest of the cast is also excellent. Direction, action and special events are first rate and the pace works very well. There is inevitably a lot of repetition of certain key events in Evan's life as he goes through them again and again, but it doesn't make the film boring because you're looking out for the changes or the explanation. And this film is much more plausible and grown-up than most time-travel movies. But it really does deliver a kick at the end.

There was a "sequel" made a couple of years later called "The Butterfly effect 2" with a different cast of characters, and in which the central character has a similar condition to Evan. However, everyone I know who has watched them both says that the sequel is not nearly as good.

Some great extras on the disc, particularly to sequences in which academics and film makers are interviewed about Chaos theory and about why we are fascinated by time travel stories.

I can strongly recommend this as long as you're not looking for something sweet and cheerful.
