音色が無限に変化するようで惹きこまれます。やはり、相当に練習してるなと思って聴くと、この人の音は感情だけでできてない。感心させられます。尊敬できる音楽家だ。

5つ星のうち5.0 重く暗く暗澹としながら、物悲しく美しい長尺ピアノソロ

キースが長尺のピアノソロを弾いていた後期の演奏で（まだ現役なので今後全く無いとは言えないかもしれませんが）、全編、重く暗く美しい演奏となっています。

例の病気が発症し出す頃なので間違いなく精神的にその影響は受けていると思いますが、ひたすら沈み込むような演奏の流れはある種殺伐としていて、迫力は凄いものがあります。　

一曲目はマイナー調でひたすら暗く物悲しく進み、終わりの際でキースお得意の爆発するような美しいフレーズが溢れます。
二曲目は全体的にフリーキーな無調の演奏で、一時マイナー調に戻りますが、最後はまた無調で暴れて終了します。

７０年代のピアノソロとは全く違う内容ですが、後期長尺ピアノソロ作品の中ではピカイチではないでしょうか。
ただキャッチーさはほぼないので、気楽にいつでも聴けないでしょう。

viennaも素晴しかった。途切れる事の無い
穏やかで時に荒れ狂う自然の営みを、ランドスケープ
の様に俯瞰する抜群の完成度。
そしてla scala、viennaより身体、血肉、艶かしさ
美しさ苦しさ、人間の欲望と神の天啓との狭間で紡ぎだされる
音のタペストリー。狂おしく求め、喜び泣き叫び、哀れみ
励まし合い、また夢見る。
人間、肉体の営みと無意識の鼓動、神々の戯れ。
急に風が止み、波が収まり、雨が止んで
最後はover the rainbow。
こんな芸当が出来るのは、keith以外いない。

キース・ジャレットという人は元来が硬派な人なのだと思う。ビル･エヴァンスなどについても同じことがあてはまるのだが、ジャズの世界でブルース感が希薄だと、どうしてもリリカルだの耽美的だのという弱腰な形容詞を枕詞に使われてしまう。キースの場合だとケルンがその典型ということになるが、そのケルンにしても、（冒頭の有名なメロディーを過ぎて）全体を聴き通してみると、これがアブストラクトでなかなか骨太なものなのですな。要は楽器を鳴らしきるかどうか、この作品は病みつきになる。

Some people get Keith Jarrett, and some don't. That's just the way it is. And even among his fans, there's disagreement over his solo works. But almost everyone agrees that he's one of the greatest jazz pianists who ever lived, and one of the most artistically ambitious. (Traditionalists should listen to his "Standards" albums, like  Standards 1  if they only associate Jarrett with improvisational music). Who else would walk into a concert hall without any preconception of what he was going to play, and improvise in front of an audience for over an hour?

Sometimes Jarrett succeeds brilliantly, and sometimes he's less successful. But even in his weakest improvisational albums there are extended periods of brilliance. La Scala is one of the brilliant ones, with parts that will appeal to almost all fans of jazz music. Part one is more melodic, and has more inside harmonies. Here, Jarrett concentrates more on melodic development. In part 2, he ventures into more harmonic development, and the ventures into the kinds of outside harmony that some would characterize as atonal- though that's kind of a subjective judgement. Part three is an extended development of "Over the Rainbow" and I think even the most naive jazz listeners will find this to be a moving performance.

I must have well over a dozen Jarrett albums and La Scala remains one of my favorites that I can return to again and again. If you've never heard any of his extended improvisations, this would be a very good place to start.

Il n'y a guère de mots dans la langue française pour décrire cette musique, ou plutôt l'émotion provoquée à l'écoute de cette musique offerte par Keith Jarrett ce 13 février 1995 à la Scala de Milan.

La première partie, plus harmonique, est construite patiemment, la musique respire, l'inspiration est à son comble et dés les premières notes, on sent que le Maître est dans un très grand jour.
La seconde partie est, selon moi, un moment rare de la musique du vingtième siècle. La manière avec laquelle Keith Jarrett construit des formes musicales d'une profondeur innouïe est absolument fantastique, on touche réellement à la perfection. Partant d'une cascade de notes, il les assemble progressivement pour créer l'émotion, et finit par désassembler le tout pour terminer en feu d'artifice. Incroyable, on ne s'en remet pas. Je dois dire que les larmes m'ont été arrachées comme rarement durant cet opus.
Keith Jarrett termine sa prestation avec une somptueuse interprétation de "Over the Rainbow".

Je sais que le personnage déplaît à nombre d'amateurs, mais un homme capable de jouer une telle musique ne peut laisser indifférent, de grâce, ne passez pas votre chemin sous prétexte de ne point aimer l'homme.
