This was the first John Lewis album devoted entirely to his Piano Playing. I remember when it was first released by Atlantic I had to send to America for it as it was not initially available in the UK. I had long been struck by the simplicity in his solo's within the MJQ and was mesmerised with an entire album focussing fully on his playing. His use of single notes is at the same time simple and complex; he could say as much in one note as others could in handfuls. The Japanese Audio Engineer have enhanced this to new levels but it still retains the beauty of the original. If you download this via the Amazon Cloud do not take any notice of the title listing but take them from the CD cover which is a facsimile of the original LP cover and is in itself a joy to read, again, even if a magnifying glass is required..
