UKフィメール・フォーク、1969年ファースト・アルバムですよー。
この人は低～中音域の地声のヴォーカルだけど、
ドスの利いた感じではなく、マイルドで優しげなので良いですよー。
ギター1本か2本の伴奏による地味なフォークですが
普通のアルペジオではなく、ベース音を強調した特殊な演奏も聞きどころですよー。
途中、鳥のさえずり～鐘の音が聞こえてきて
感動的な空気を運んでくれるアルバム・タイトル曲
「Ask Me No Questions」は田園フォークの鬼名曲ですよー。

フォークギターでの弾き語りアルバム。
曲によって2台のギターだったり。ギターとコンガの組み合わせだったりする。
彼女のなんとも言えない魅力的なアルトボイス（低音）が力強く全編に響き渡る。
しかしシャウトなどは無く、無骨なくらい素直で優しい歌を唄う。
何も聞き返しても疲れないアルバム。

６９年発表の１ｓｔ。全曲がオリジナルの非トラッド系のフォーク・アルバム。弾き語りが中心で時にジョン・マーティン(g、クラプトンが後に曲を取り上げるなどフォーク界ではかなりの大御所) やリック・サンダース(g、ソフト・マシーン〜セカンド・ヴィジョン〜フェアポートの人とは同名別人らしい)といったフォーク系では名の知れたギタリストとドミニク(bongo) が加わる程度の簡素な伴奏が入る。
非トラッド系とは言ってもディランやＳ＆Ｇ的な雰囲気ではなく、どちらかと言えばトラッドに近い雰囲気を持っており、時にクラシックを思わせる細かなアルペジオすら聞かせている。楽曲はメロディアスなものが多く、男性のような低めの歌声をしっかりと聞いてみれば凄まじく美しいメロディを聞かせている事が分かる。また録音が生々しく目の前で歌っているかのようなストレートなサウンドを聞かせており、またそれに耐えうる演奏と歌を聞かせている。シンプルなアレンジでしっかりとしたメロディを聞かせるフォーク、特にトラッド寄りのものを聞きたいのであれば本作は間違いなくベストのものの一つだろう。ジュディ・ダイブルのいたトレイダー・ホーンを少しだけ現代（現実）的にすると本作に近いかもしれない。本作はそれくらいの名盤である。

The consensus is that Bridget St. John initially comes across as a mellower, more pastoral Nico in Nick Drake territory ... and this isn't an unfair capsule description. Certainly fans of both artists will find much to enjoy here. But keep on listening. Before long, a distinct & individual voice emerges, a certain English wounded innocence informed by harsher experience, but still yearning for something lovely & untouched by crass hands. These are deeply personal songs, expressing the wounds & unexpected joys of life itself, without ever getting close to self-pity or navel-gazing. Instead, there's a worldly-wise distance of sorts, a quietly bemused consideration of life that reminds me of Emily Dickinson. While she's definitely of this world, she has one foot in another one, which gives her a compassionate & slightly resigned overview. If there's a sameness to her songs, it's rich in subtle variations -- this is one album that demands to be heard in its entirety, as a suite rather than simple a collection of tunes. The samples will soon tell you if this is your cup of faintly bittersweet tea..

Not for every taste, not for every mood -- but when you need to hear it, nothing else will do -- highly recommended!

Bridget St. John, eine britische Folksängerin, nahm von 1969 bis 1972 drei Alben für John Peels Dandelion Label auf, wobei die Resonanz außer in ihrem Heimatland, wo sie später im Leserpoll eines Magazins zur beliebtesten Sängerin gewählt wurde, nicht von Bedeutung war. Ask Me No Questions ist ihr Debüt. Das Album ist durchgehend akustisch und die originalen 12 Songs sind alle von St. John komponiert. Sie singt mit tiefer, leicht rauchiger Stimme und ihr Vortrag wirkt durch das Hinausziehen der Noten leicht schleppend. Die Lieder sind nachdenklich, melancholisch, meditativ bis leicht traurig und weisen eine gewisse Tiefe auf. Sie begleitet sich selbst auf der Gitarre und bei mehreren Songs unterstützen sie John Martyn und Ric Sanders auf ihren Gitarren. Irgendwie erinnert ihr Vortrag an Francoise Hardy, allerdings ohne deren Pop Appeal. Es lässt sich kein schwacher Punkt finden, alle Songs entbehren nicht einer gewissen Magie, zu der es sich wunderbar träumen oder einfach nur die Gedanken schweifen lässt. Herausragend aus einem durchgehend sehr gutem Album sind der Auftakt "To B Without a Hitch", dessen drängendes, vorwarts treibendes Gitarrenintro schon mal aufhorchen lässt, weiters das wunderschöne "Hello Again (Of Course)", "Many Happy Returns" mit einer bemerkenswerten akustischen Slide, und der abschließende, fast schon hypnotische, Titelsong. Diese CD Reissue von 2005 enthält zwei Bonustracks, darunter eine wunderschön klingende und feinfühlige Version von Leonard Cohens "Suzanne". St. John singt es mit einem herrlichen britischen Akzent, der bei den längeren Noten wunderbar durchklingt und dem allgemein sehr bekannten Song eine verführerische Note verleiht.
Insgesamt ein hervorragendes Album, das in unseren Landen damals leider nicht die Beachtung erhielt die es verdient. Das lässt sich jetzt mit dieser schön gemachten Edition leicht nachholen. Für Fans des britischen Folk und der Musik der 60er gibt es nur eins - zugreifen!

I was a big fan of Bridget St John in the late 60's and early 70's. In fact I began to think I was the only fan, as years passed before I met anyone who had even heard of her. The first time I heard her was on John Peels "Top Gear" radio show. She sang her version of John Martyn's "The River" which was spellbinding and I fell in love with her voice and guitar style straight away. "Ask Me No Questions" was her first album and her purist. Just her and her guitar, with the occasional second guitar added. It is full of country lanes and nice images and has a very tranqulising effect on the listener, transporting us to another, better world. The title track is lovely with its break in the middle for birdsong and church bells. I always find Bridgets voice very relaxing and yet emotional. Also her lyrics have a rare poetry that is lacking in modern music and so the whole album is a delight. I have it on vinyl and, although I have been listening to it for 37 years, I never grow tired of any of the songs-they seems as fresh now as when I first heard them, which is a rare thing nowadays!

J'ai donc payé le prix d'un CD neuf pour un CD qui est arrivé en état d'occasion.
C'est pour un cadeau, je suis très décue, en plus le boitier est cassé et le disque ne tient plus à l'intérieur, je vais donc devoir changer de boitier en plus

Firstly great service and speedy delivery.

Secondly what a fantastic album. I hadn't heard of Bridget St John before and only came across her reading a book about John Martyn (who I adore!). What an absolute find I have been playing this album on repeat on my ipod since I bought it. I'll be buying her others now. If you want to gaze through a window and dream of running through a meadow and get totally lost in the moment, then this album will deliver!
