Amazon

The movie starts in a brutal manner with two teenagers and we think that the movie is a classical maniac killer guy thing, who is killing people because his mama didn't pay too much attention to him when he was little. Classical excuse for all irresponsible psychopaths out there! Everybody is looking for the killer who is very angry and destroys his victims faces. Half way through the movie, the director gives you a hint about the killer. It is a minuscule detail that people who pay attention will get it. I had to rewind the movie to make sure.
Jolie plays an FBI profiler that has a problem focusing on the case. We don't know her family background exactly, but she has problems too. Slowly the movie takes off and it is becoming really intense. She finally gets closer to the killer, only to lose him forever. Or this is what we think...The final 60 seconds of the movie are really intense and make everything clear.
The only problem with the movie is Olivier Martinez. He is just a terrible actor, and he is pushing his French accent too much. I have not seen Martinez in any French movie yet, but have seen him in few movies on this side of the pond and he is a terrible. And the accent that he is pushing doesn't help. I know that the movie is made in Montreal and people are supposed to speak with a French accent, but Tchecky Karyo and Jean-Hughe Anglade are really good. And they have a decent French accent. In addition, his role/person is totally irrelevant to the plot and the entire movie. If his character was to be eliminated from the plot, nothing would have changed. Even Kieffer Sutherland and Gena Rowlands who have minimal roles in this movies are much better and more relevant than Martinez. Of course Sutherland has always an ambiguous role and we get it by the end of movie.
I was really torn between giving the movie three stars because of the performance of Olivier Martinez, or five stars because of the plot, the acting of everybody else and the great unexpected ending. If we just ignore the annoying performance of Martinez, it is a five stars all the way because of the great unexpected ending and Angelina Jolie's performance.
