Arthur Brown has always been much more powerful and intense than most people realize. He never really got the credit he deserves. This CD is great. Just put on 'Helen With The Sun' and turn it up LOUD! It will sweep you away into another time and place. I would also love to see a remastered CD version of "Journey" by Kingdom Come - Another CD that is incomparable to anything that has ever been recorded. Don't hesitate to buy any of his work. You will always finds something of great artistic value in his music.
I suppose this is half review and half a plea for someone out there who knows more about Arthur's back catalogue to step forward and fill in a few blanks! Okay, first the man himself. I'd call myself a huge fan of Kingdom Come, right from 'Galactic Zoo' all the way through to 'Journey'. That's about three years all told. I bought 'Dance' back in the day hoping it was the next logical progression but of course it was a total departure. I still liked it though, it just didn't meet my expectations that's all. So with the exception of his guest slot on 'Capt. Lockheed' that's where me and Arthur went our separate ways. Sad really. So it was only thanks to Amazon and the advent of online shopping that I later realized Arthur had remained active all these years even though my own attention and musical tastes had been occupied elsewhere, and that brings me back to 'Chisholm' (which is playing away as I type). I had no idea this album even existed this time last year but as it's described as the follow-up to 'Dance', and as I still rate 'Dance' 40years after buying it, I thought there was minimal risk in checking it out. Now allowing for the fact that each of the Kingdom Come albums differs from it's predecessor (as 'Galactic Zoo' differed from 'The Crazy World') I was only mildly surprised when it came across as 'Dance pt.II'. As described, so to speak. And sure enough, I'm growing to like it equally as much... maybe. But my problem, if that's the correct term, concerns the title track. After some research it seems as though the original vinyl release contained a much shorter version. It says as much on the CD booklet. But then the CD booklet states this version to last a full 23mins. Which it does not. There seems to be about 4mins chopped off the end... and that's the best way to describe it... a fairly brutal fade out. I suppose I need someone out there to kindly tell me that the booklet is a misprint and the song (which I've still barely come to grips with despite numerous repeat listenings) was supposed to end in that fashion. To which I'd say: Oh, okay. In that case I'll award it four stars on account that it sounds kind of 'unfinished'.
