Todd Edwards, John Mark Painter and a few others have delivered a marvelous soundtrack to the movie "Hoodwinked". Edwards, one of the movie's co-directors and co-writers, also wrote most of the songs in the movie. The material ranges over many genres, and he is convincing with each one.
There are several score cues peppered throughout the album that show John Mark Painter's excellent abilities as a film composer. Painter's background includes the popular mod rock band "Fleming and John". He has also extensive experience engineering, mixing and playing for BEN FOLDS, among others.
ANNE HATHAWAY, the voice talent for "Red" in the movie, sings the upbeat song entitled "Great Big World", while BEN FOLDS appears on the track "Red is Blue", and both give a terrific performance. The song "Red is Blue" is a definite highlight. Cory Edwards, the director of "Hoodwinked", pitches in with a couple of impressive rap songs - one voiced by Cory himself.
Another one of the great features this soundtrack album offers is the liner notes. There is a full-color 12-page booklet included, featuring the lyrics and Todd Edwards' written commentary per track. There is a shortage of good liner notes in the world these days, but this one delivers above expectations. The artwork throughout is also excellent.
This is one great package of an album. It could stand alone as a project unto itself in my opinion. The good news is, that the soon-to-be released movie is as strong as the album, and when the movie's available, I'll proudly place it into my home collection as well. For now, the soundtrack will do just fine.
