Texas quintet Blue October has bounced from Houston-based indie darlings to the majors and back twice since their '98 bow. Yet there's little sense they've compromised much of their eclectic, creatively restless ethos in the bargain on this, their fourth studio album (and second major label stint). In the hands of less ambitious musicians, the personally harrowing, perfectly crafted "Hate Me" would have become template for the entire collection; here it's but the most commercially focused of band leader Justin Furstenfeld's eclectic musical obsessions. His taste for early '80s UK New Wave evinces itself in a fondness for lyrical shadows and fleeting sonic echoes of Richard Butler's P-Furs and Peter Gabriel. But it's in the collection's quieter, more reflective songs ("Let It Go" and "Congratulations" turn on Ryan Delahousaye's signature violin phrases; "X Amount of Words" effortlessly morphs through several intriguing techno conceits; "18th Floor Balcony" bristles with an almost neo-classical elegance) where Blue October sets itself a cut above its post-grunge contenders. -- Jerry McCulley

似すぎ！

とにかく３曲目 Into The Oceanと５曲目 Hate Meの出だしが似すぎているのです。

ラジオで頻繁にかかっていて、いいなぁ〜と思っていたのは３曲目の方でした。

洋楽なのにJ-POPのようなアニソンのような感じがGOODです。

This album is an absolute must have for any Blue October fan, or future fan.

Quite Possibly One of the Best Albums Ever

Plenty of people have reviewed this item so far and honestly, most will say what I am about to. This album is fantastic. I have a broad range of music I enjoy, but when it comes to buying CDs from bands they have to pass an initial "hazing" as it were. I either have to have a good track record with them or I have to love at least 3 songs on the CD in question.

After hearing "Hate Me" on the radio I began digging for some more examples of their music and came across "Into the Ocean" right before it was released and "X Amount of Words". These songs sold it for me. I instantly became an avid supporter of the band......especially after finding out Justin writes his own songs. So much of music out there is a pretty face being supplied material from someone else. They do not feel the lyrics like the writer did and as a result you tend not to "feel" the songs the way they should be. From songs like "Let It Go" to "Hate Me" and even "Calling You" which was on the version I got instead of having to get "History for Sale" which is now being sold on here at extortionists rates......you have a journey that is more for the heart than the ears, although make no mistake the songs are a joy to listen to. If you are like me, and need music that you can feel, that touches you, and are on a CD that, no matter your mood, you can find a song that you can relate to.....then you MUST own this CD.

These gentlemen are true artists and as long as they keep their quality as high as this album, I will be a fan for life. I have already pre-ordered "Approaching Normal" without so much as a hint of the songs on it. THAT is how much faith I have in Blue October. I can almost guarantee that no matter your preferred genre, listening to this album will generate at least two or three songs you'll highly enjoy. Even my sister, who is in to the German Synth Pop scene and Goth Rock enjoys listening to "Into the Ocean". For me, my personal favorite is "Let It Go". Give these guys a try........there is greatness here that has yet to be fully tapped, but "Foiled" at least gives you a glimpse of what a truly great artist can do.

Ein Kauftipp eines Amazon-Users verleitete mich zum Kauf dieser CD. Leider weiß ich nicht mehr, wer das war. Gerne würde ich eine Dankeschön-eMail an den/diejenige(n) schreiben.

Das Album ist großartig.
Diese Band wurde schon 1995 gegründet. Leider habe ich bisher nichts von dieser wunderbaren Band gewußt, obwohl ich im Internet gelesen habe, dass die Band mit diesem Album (Titel "Hate me") den internationalen Durchbruch schaffte. Nun ist es endlich auch bei mir angekommen,... besser spät, als nie.
Die drei absolut besten Lieder dieses Albums sind meiner Meinung nach:

- you make me smile --> ich liebe den Teil ab 2:16:
"It's the feeling I get,
my palms with sweat
Like some kind of daydream I'll never forget
I'm stuck in this spin, where does it begin?
When touching the edge of her skin"

- congratulations (Feat. Imogen Heap) --> perfekt, um sich dem Liebeskummer hinzugeben oder einfach nur den genialen Refrain zu genießen:
My heart, my pain won't cover up
You left me, ah ha ha ha (my heart)
My heart can't take this cover up
You left me

- x amount of words --> wahnsinnig gutes Lied, wahnsinnige Lyrics

Dicht gefolgt von diesen Titeln:
- She's My Ride Home
- Hate me
- Let it go
- Sound Of Pulling Heaven Down
- 18th Floor Balcony

Von insgesamt 13 Titeln auf dem Album sind diese acht Titel sensationell gut.
Die restlichen fünf Lieder sind auch schön. Die oben genannten stechen aber irgendwie raus, sie haben für mich etwas besonderes.

Viel Spaß beim Hören. Unbedingt KAUFEN!!!
