A singing duo of Amanda Barrett on mandolin and dulcimer, and Abby DeWald on guitar, this is the second release by The Ditty Bops. They draw liberally on genres of yore, hopping from western swing to vaudevillian theatrics, jazz, and folk music. They mine a vein similar to what Dan Hicks was doing with his Hot Licks in the early seventies, though their compositional sensibilities embrace a wider realm. Sympathetically produced by Mitchell Froom (who also plays keyboards, though the dazzling turn at the piano on "Aluminum Can" is by Greg Rutledge), they're joined by some of the finest players to be found in Los Angeles, including the ever-apt percussion of Elvis Costello's longtime drummer, Pete Thomas. While the title song opens the set on a quaint note, by the third number, "Fall Awake," it becomes clear that The Ditty Bops are not to be pigeonholed. The set's one cover, Boudleaux and Felice Bryant's "Bye Bye Love," is sweet but breaks the parade of their own resonant and mysterious songs. --David Greenberger

何でこんな素晴らしいグループがもっとメジャーじゃないのかと。
ファーストでもDan Hicksっぽい？と思いましたが、このセカンドは
もうDan Hicksなんか後ろで仕事してるでしょ？って思うくらい、
Dan Hicksっぽいです。実際、Dan Hicksの前座やったりしてたそう
です。ということでDan Hicksが好きな人は絶対気に入ると思います。

ミュージカル風な構成で、独特の世界を前作同様見せてくれます。サイモン＆ガーファンクルのＢｙｅ　Ｂｙｅ　Ｌｏｖｅ　のカバーは秀逸です。

I just love the Ditty Bops and this CD. This recording (and other Bops CDs) makes me so happy when I play it. Abby's and Amanda's voices blend so beautifully on "Fall Awake" and so many other songs, and I love their sometimes off-kilter, humorous lyrics. "It's a Shame" was an immediate favorite with me, but all the songs are terrific. I'll treasure this CD forever.

O Brother, Where Art Thou?
Following on from their eponymous first CD this sparkling release continues on with similar inventiveness and vigour. From the word go we get the precociously gifted sound the Ditty Bops have made their own. Always entertaining and uplifting these songs contain intelligent lyrics and the kind of hooks that stay in your mind for ages. These hooks don't nag or bother, they're just blissful.

Their natural songwriting seems as instinctive and true as The Beatles. But the Ditty Bops are an entity to themselves and it's hard to draw direct comparisons with anyone else. It's almost as if this music was always written, it's just now that you've heard it for the first time.

I have all of their releases and some live stuff too and almost everyone I play it to find it irresistible. They're not known here and in a way that's nice. At some point they'll turn up on Jools Holland's show and people will start to really pick up on Abby De Wald and Amanda Barrett.

Get in there first. Let some sunshine into your life. You didn't think people wrote and performed stuff like this anymore but they do.

I have no idea what or why they are saying what they say but we love the lilt of their signing style. Heard one song from their first album and just had to buy it. All the songs were excellent also. This is only the second album I could find but if they make a hundred more I'd buy them all.

Just joking in the first sentence, they are very clear.
