The album also includes special appearances from Snoop Dogg and Westside Connection member WC. Features the hit singles "Chrome And Paint" and "Why We Thugs."

We all know that Ice Cube, founding member of NWA and former "hardcore gangster rapper," performs in family-friendly fluff comedy flicks aimed at the most mainstream of family audiences, but no one with any sense cuts him serious flack for that. Not only are the Friday and Barber Shop movies pretty great, but do you have any idea how big his bank account is by now? When it comes to music, what is the dude to do? It's obviously his first love, but he has about three choices: to work with the Neptunes and try to update himself; to go completely middle America and do a Broadway revue or something; or he can do what he's always done: flex his lyrical muscles, squint a lot, bark out some hardcore lines on top of slick hip-hop--you know, to try and restore his cred. A glance at the song titles will tell you which choice he made. It's interesting to know that the very rich still have problems ("Child Support") and even millionaires have to convince us all that they're tough just like they did when they were broke-ass ("Why We Thugs"). There's some real political commentary here, but it gets lost in uninspired beats and that super-dated style, genre... everything. It would seem that Cube's producers forgot to tell him that no one really cares for that '92 stuff anymore. --Mike McGonigal

燃え盛るニューヨークの上におったらそら熱いわさ

アイスキューブ最後の傑作っぽい2006年作品。

映画界で活躍しつつも音楽産業の中心点からはどんどん遠ざかってしまったアイスキューブだが、

築き上げた実績とスキルを背景に、

スコットスコーチやリルジョン、スウィズビーツやスヌープドッグの力を借りて、

かなりの傑作となっている。

個人的には、初耳のティーク&ドレがプロデュースした15 the game lord がいちばんすばらしい。

すべてがカンペキだったNWA 時代以降は何をしてもどこかダサいアイスキューブだが、この曲はかなりサマになっている。

結論::ひさしぶりに吹っ切れたアイスキューブがきける良作

「ギャングスタラップの産みの親がオレでなんでこんな情けない奴らが生まれてきたんだ!?」と、現在の偽物ギャングスタラップに対して5曲目で言葉を吐きだすキューブがメッチャかっこえぇ!!他とちゃうのがヒップホップの良さやのに、最近は他と同じがヒップホップの良さになってて呆れるわ↓↓
やからアイスキューブは絶対買いやと思う☆☆有名プロデューサーを起用してもアイスキューブ一色になってるもん!!

Ich als riesengroßer US-Rap Fan, feier Ice Cube natürlich extrem. Der Westcoastrapper der damals durch die Gruppe N.W.A. erst so richtig bekannt und groß geworden ist, und für mich schon jetzt als Legende im Hip Hop Business zählt, hatte 2006 mit "Laught now, cry later" sein bisher siebtes Studioalbum veröffentlicht. Auch wenn ich eigentlich eher auf seine Old'School Klassiker stehe, finde ich Laugt now, cry later aber trozdem als sein bestes Album.
Es ist einfach ein Kunstwerk unter den ganzen Rapalben, das in keiner CD-Sammlung fehlen darf.
Ich als Fan besitze natürlich jedes seiner Alben, aber "Laugt now, cry later" hat mich so sehr überzeugt das ich diese Rezesion (wenn auch erst ein bisschen spät) unbedingt schreiben musste.
Ein guter Track jagt den Nächsten, die Beats sind sehr aggresiv und passen gut zu seiner ebenso aggresiven Stimme.
Wegen der vielen Produzenten des Albums wie Lil'Jon, Scott Storch, Swizz Beatz oder DJ Green Lanthern, passen sich die Lieder sowohl dem heutigen, so wie dem klassichen Stil an.
Lieder wie "Why we Thug, Go to Church oder Stop snitchin", haben durch den einfluss von Crunk einen eher neumodischen Klang. Tracks wie "The Ni**a Trap" wirken eher klassisch.
Es ist also für jeden Geschmack etwas dabei.

Laught now, cry later ist so ziemlich das einzigste Rapalbum was ich mir je gekauft habe, indem mir 2-3 Lieder nicht so gut gefallen haben. Normalerweise sind nur 2-3 Tracks eines Albums richtig gut und der Rest ist nur so Durschschnitt bis Schlecht (bezieht sich jetz auf generell alle Künstler und nicht speziell nur auf Ice Cube)

Normalerweise würde ich dem Album 20 Sterne geben aber da leider nur 5 möglich sind, bekommt es auch alle 5.
