This album takes me back to my youth. fun, emergetci and punky, it reminds me if what it's like to be a teenager of the noughtis

We should probably just get out of their way. Seeing them live, not knowing who they were at all was a shock... in a very good way. They have that way of making a crowd excited and uneasy... like something dangerous could happen. that's rock, or punk, or whatever you wish to call it... and that's when you remember, I'm alive and I've been sleeping... how long was I asleep?
Anyhow, the BYOP album is as rocking as the concert set, except concerts always rock more... but the album holds up as well as any recorded album ever has in terms of raw energy. and it is seriously catchy too.
I don't know... I'm addicted. seriously. Don't be your own judge... that other guy doesn't know what he's talking about. When you hear this record, your free will goes out the window... there's no choice in the matter... either jump on board or get out of the way, cause they're on 2 wheels baby and they're gonna burn yr house down. it's serious.

P.S.: While another review here has some potentially valid points, I do think it is a bit unfair to judge an album by forecasting the band's career potential. this album demands to be taken on its own terms. One may recall how off the wall and perhaps non-career developing type material were the first Meat Puppets album, or the first couple Sonic Youth releases even... the first flashes of spirit and energy on this record don't rule out that sort of artistic development. That's not to compare BYOP to either of those bands in any way. But, as for the future, who knows? This record is made for immediate attention.

Da sucht man dann etwas länger, denn was auf "be your own PET" zählt ist Wut und die pure Energie. In "Wildcat!" mit seinem singenden Gitarrenriff, in der neuen Single "Adventure", dem punkrockenden "Girls on TV", dem gemäßigten "October, first account" und "Ouch" wird man dann aber doch fündig.

be your own PET liefern ein Album, dass das Jahr 2006 überdauern könnte. Das liegt zum Großteil an der unbekümmerten Ungestümtheit, mit der die Teenager einfach Gas geben, als gäbe es kein Morgen mehr. Live fast, die young.

I normally don't review albums on Amazon; however, I felt inspired to write something when I saw the vitriolic and ridiculous comments being made by some of the other reviewers. First of all, AFI are terrible--sorry to hear that Davey what's-his-name is the object of your malaiase-imbued, black-eyeliner-wearing "emo" (whatever THAT means; ask Ian MacKaye and Guy Picciotto what they think of the term) affection.

BYOP were better than all those Warped Tour bands for a number of reasons: (1) Jemina's lyrics are immature in a GOOD way--punk rock is all about high school angst and frustration; (2) their raw, unbridled sound could be straight out of '77; (3) and Jemina has an amazing set of pipes, complete with rock 'n' roll snarl. Pay attention--the lyrics are supposed to be childish, and the playing is supposed to be sloppy!

If you hate BYOP's retro sound, you'll probably also hate most of the bands that inspired them. These kids listened to all the right stuff: the Stooges, Richard Hell, Bad Brains, Ramones, NY Dolls, Sex Pistols, etc. Listen to the Buzzcocks' earliest recordings (e.g. Spiral Scratch); Howard Devoto has a terrible singing voice, but he's an AMAZING singer (Magazine are even better than the Pete Shelley-fronted Buzzcocks). Also, Shelley's guitar sound on their earliest recordings is unrefined and BRILLIANT for that very reason.

At any rate, if you like real punk, hardcore, glam, and hard rock from the '70s and '80s, you'll probably like BYOP. If you love the Distillers and Gwen Stefani's solo work, you should probably not be reviewing this album. You should also probably be embarrassed for bringing shame upon yourself and your ancestors.

This is a great punk album. Nothing that's genre changing, but it gets more fun the more I listen to it. Tons of energy, quirky, and comedic. Great buy!
