米英のプレスに加え、ネット上でも話題沸騰だったミネアポリスの4人組。いかにもインディー・ファンのエリート心をくすぐるバンドだろう。ヨレヨレの演奏とごった煮感が不思議なぐらい彼らの味になっている。トーキング・ヘッズやペイヴメントのファンにオススメしたい。

Trovo questo album adorabile.
Non capisco perché non siano diventati famosi. Secondo me particolari ma non cervellotici. Passionali ma precisi. Precisi ma artisti, non musicisti. Controllati, delicati ma mai noiosi. L'indie rock perfetto.

You will love this CD. I've read complaints that the music is derivative. I definitely hear the strong Pave influence and even a bit of Devo, but for God's sake, all music is derivative to a degree and someone has to fill the void Pave left when they disbanded. Apparently it took another group of upper middle-class, White boys with tidy hair cuts to run with the low-fi, indie ball that Pavement dropped. I will say that Tapes are more melodic than early/middle-years Pavement - the songs don't sound like a sound check - apart from the instrumental mid-way through the CD. All around, derivative or not, this CD is great through-out, not a bad song on it - it would surely be a perfect addition to any Pavement fan's collection.

Actually, I heard "Just Drums" before I heard the rest of the album and couldn't stop listening to it, so I finally bought the whole album. I've heard the sound on newer album is a bit more refined, which makes me a little leery since the non-refined sound makes it really interesting. If you also enjoyed the basement-y quality of "Just Drums", you'll like the whole thing too.
