https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9lbNLzRRNGw
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HYRPvDVHX_Q
もGoodです。

''The empyrean''

Tal vez demasiado...?

Not what listeners expected, but far better

This is probably not a popular opinion among instrumental aficionados, but I always detested the Red Hot Chili Peppers. Coming out of the same scene that produced amazing bands like Jane's Addiction and Fishbone, I have always found the Chili Peppers frustratingly unlistenable. "Frustratingly," because they boasted two of the most talented instrumentalists on the scene, on bass and guitar. It was like going to a top-rated restaurant, at the best restaurant scene in the country, and everybody does their part in the composition of a plate, except that the person in charge of the vegetables just overcooks them to inedibility. I am speaking of the "vocalist" of that group. I detest that man. Take him away from the mix, and make it an instrumental group? I'd be the biggest fan in the world. Oh well. We'll always have Jane's Addiction.
Yet for the fan base, Niandra was a shock, and it certainly doesn't fit with what Frusciante's band was doing. It was better. In fact, rather than a kind of west coast funk-rock thing, it sounds more like a New York experimental recording of the kind one might have heard from Gary Lucas than anything associated with that LA scene. For fans of Lucas and his kind of experimental music, that's great. Frusciante's stream of consciousness, barely melodic, funk-free (as opposed to free-funk) assault on your ears challenges anything that a Chili Peppers fan would have expected. And while it isn't a Frusciante/Flea instrumental duet that I might have wanted, sans-vocals, it shows a visionary.
It has a moment in time quality, too, that is enhanced by the low-fi aesthetic. This is the kind of recording that, had Frusciante gone back, cleaned it up, re-recorded it, and all that... it would have suffered. In the same way that a warts-and-all live recording with the proper live energy has a special quality, the stream of consciousness quality of these recordings need to be free form and low-fi. Like an artist's sketch. Because that's what the album is. An artist's sketch.
It's just that this artist has more ideas than he can ever record. And from my perspective, I'd rather have him in this kind of context than playing with a "vocalist" whose voice sounds to me like nails on a blackboard.
Yes, that's an unpopular opinion. This is a great album, though.

Very Honest and Raw Album

One of my favorite pieces from John Frusciante. Tortured, simple and sincere. He maybe played with fire these years, but the music result is astonishing. Great one, but definitely not for the radio listeners: very very raw. It's like the recording machine was setted up randomly into his house - you feel like you live next to him at this period of his life.
