解散後、所属していたエレクトラ．レコードから最後に1枚アルバムを
と依頼されて急遽再結成、リリースされたラスト．アルバムです。
しかしこのアルバム練れていてどの曲もレベルが高く、隠れた名盤と
いえる出来です。
シングルはいつものようにDavid Gatesの「Hooked On You」と
「Lost Without Your Love」で特に後者は優しく美しいメロディで大ヒット
しています。
そういえば韓国のドラマ「春のワルツ」で主題曲として使われていて
驚いたのを思い出しました。
また「Lay Your Money Down」、「Hold Tight」はリズミカルなポップ
ソング、「Belonging」、「The Chosen One」はGatesらしいメロディが
素晴らしい。
一方でBreadのもう一つのソングライターJames Griffin、Robb Royer
コンビもカントリーテイストの爽やかな「She's The Only One」、
「Change Of Heart」、悲しいメロディが印象的な「Today's The First Day」、
「Our Lady Of Sorrow」などいい曲を提供しています。

James Griffin、Mike Botts、Larry Knechtelも亡くなり、David Gatesも
一線を引いた現在でもソフト．ロックの雄としてBreadの名前はずっと語り
継がれていってもらいたいと思います。

ブレッドの中では一度解散後の復活作になるわけですが、
現在あまり評価されないのが残念です。
David Gates,James Griffinともに中身はピアノを中心にシフトした作風が多くなっていますが
彼らの作品の中では一番メロディアスな内容となっていると思います。
Gatesのヒット曲がほとんどの彼らですが、ここではバラードでも
Griffinがとてもいい味を出しています。
彼のToday's the First Dayは白眉の出来ですし、Gatesの作品も
すべてクオリティが高いと思います。
名盤といえるでしょう。

このアルバムはブレッドのアルバム中 文句無しの大名盤である。David Gatesの作曲能力が全開しており「Hooked On You」、「Lost Without Your Love」、「Belonging」 、「The Chosen One 」といった曲にその能力の凄さが垣間見える。ちなみにDavid GatesにはソロアルバムでTake Me Now という名盤があるのだが今のところCD化されてないようで残念である。とりあえず上記4曲を聴いてみてください。

This, Bread's swansong, must be their most under-rated album. Recorded 4 years after their previous effort (Guitar Man) & heralding a reunion that fizzled out immediately after its release, it draws a worthy close to a brief but illustrious career.

I confess I haven't played it as much as their other albums, which is perhaps why it sounds so fresh today. As usual, David Gates' songs have the edge over Griffin & Royer's, although, as with their self-titled debut where 'The last time' stood out, the latter provide the (to me) highlight in 'Today's the first day' (just dig those wild, 'Bee Gee' falsettos!)

There's not a lot else to say, really. If you enjoyed the group's other albums, I'm sure you won't be disappointed with this, which is the recipe as before but with 11 tracks, as opposed to the 12 on each of their other albums. Likewise, there are no bonus tracks or sleeve notes. With this group, you get nothing but pure quality - in short, they were musical thorough-breads.

Having been induced to return to the studio for one last time, the band left on a high. I suspect that Bread is a band you either like or hate. If you like them, then this album is joyously available at last on CD. Granted, many of the highlights are already available on the Anthology, but for completeness, there are additional gems. I would recommend this for the fan, but if you just want to have the best, then stick to the compilations.

The songs on this CD are good, however, the sound is very tinny and ear piercing. It's a shame because paying $17.00 for a CD with 10 songs is quite a bit of money. I love bread, but I don't like the sound in this CD. Find the songs on a different CD, Anthology has most of them.
