　忘れもしない『ミュージック・マガジン』1982年２月号、恒例のベスト・アルバムにおいて大鷹俊一さんが写真入りトップで選出。
　カセットのみのリリースが、高田馬場OPUS-ONEにあり運好く購入、その後の人生を誤ってしまった、ははは。

　あの頃、最も尖っていたオムニバス作品の一つというだけではなく、それまでのロックは米英のキャッチボールという感があったが、ベルギーのインディペンデントなのに、こんな面白いことが出来るのかと驚くとともに感動さえしてしまった。

　９.のイーノ、10.のジャンヌ・モローのインタヴューは、姉妹編『THE FRUIT OF THE ORIGINAL SIN』のラスト（W・バロウズ！）にも受け継がれていて、同時代の末井昭などが編集した一部のエロ雑誌群が、図らずも学者・研究者たちの卵の文を次々と掲載してサブカルのアーキタイプを形成するに至るプロセスと相似。
　ある現象は、ほぼ世界同時に起こってしまう例の一つと言えば大袈裟だけど。

　今聴いても、マーティン・ハネットの６「The Music Room」.は、ハーバード大教授にして深刻な麻薬中毒者だった奇人ティモシー・リアリーの世界を彷彿とさせる狂気と毒、バッド・トリップに満ちた異世界を感じさせてちょっと怖い気もする。

In dem frühen 80ern auf Kassete erhältlich, und nun 40 Jahre später neu aufgelegt, ist diese Sammlung von Post-Punk, Proto-Industrial/Techno, Ambient, Interviews und nahezu klassischen Kompositionen eine wahre Fundgrube von Kleinoden.
Könnte so auch heute rauskommen und wäre modern.
Besonders macht diese Veröffentlichung ihre tolle und liebevolle Gestaltung als „Earbook“. Schon das Cover und die in den Liner Notes enthaltene Geschichte des Motivs sind den Kauf wert.

Must-Have für alle die sich für og Genres interessieren.

One of the most eclectic compilations I'm aware of is finally available again. One look at the artists represented here should be enough to convince anyone of the great worth that this now remarkably restored time capsule offers the 21st century: well done (not "corrective") remastering for the music and excellent reproduction of the original booklet. "From Brussels" provides a broad and important overview of the work by those who shaped a still underappreciated but important period in popular and new music innovation: from the Armory Show to Eno; proto Dome to Gavin Bryars ("Hommages" era); Michael Nyman to Durutti Column; even a lovelier than the final version demo by Thomas Dolby, all bracketed by John Foxx snippets, this collection proves the whole to be far greater than the sum of its parts. The combination of work here is very particular to its time, and delightfully indifferent to genre. The result of compressing so many ideas into so small a space is seductive, alluring and worthy of countless replays thanks to the depth of ideas and devotion to an egalitarian inclusiveness. It may simply be nostalgia on my part. Or it more likely may be the broader historic and artistic awareness at work among these artists. Either way, it's a great document that has maintained its own status as an audio Objet d'art.

I bought the original cassette back in 1980, wore that out and bought a second copy. Later, I bought the vinyl 2 disc set, but was disappointed that some of the artists on the original cassette were replaced by other artists. I made do with a cobbled-together CD made from both vinyl and tape...until now. The packaging is perfect, down to the original artwork and booklet. That alone is worth the 5 stars. However, there are still a couple of issues. First, Felch by A Certain Ratio was noticeably missing. Second, the Durutti Column song entitled Piece For An Ideal is not the original on the tape, but rather one called Experiment in Fifth, which was included in the CD reissue of the Return of the Durutti Column. I contacted James Nice (who compiled this and all other Factory reissues) to let him know about these minor glitches. He will look into into it for the next pressing.

When the world was still trying to be hip for the first time I was already tired of being cool for the second time, so I had this on vinyl back before it was trendy to be bored with stuff before everybody else was even into it. I cannot review this with any kind of objectivity, as I am still ketaminically euphoric over having found it again.

Or not. Whatever. You probably wouldn't like it anyway - it's better than it sounds. You had to be there. It's the notes they don't play that matter.
