This re-release is very exciting indeed and many music lovers will want it even if they already own recordings of Vivaldi's very famous and over-recorded "Gloria." Conductor Alessandrini launches into it with a passion few have matched, the tempo breakneck-fast and excitement level high. And throughout he surprises, with each section's tempo and mood taken directly from the text, as if it were an Italian opera. The more prayerful sections--both beginning with the words "Domine Deus"--are taken very introspectively, with the second sung by the amazing contralto Sara Mingardo, whose voice is like chocolate. She and the other soloists are excellent throughout, and each shines in the Magnificat, which contains virtuoso writing. There is a brief concerto for strings in a minor key, and the CD closes with a D major concerto for trumpet and oboe which has energetic outer movements. A splendid disc. --Robert Levine

As a former classical musician, who has participated in various performances of Vivaldi's Gloria, I find this recording of this work most delightful - it is clearly articulated and flows at a tempo which is most appropriate for the Italian baroque. There has been some compliants about the tempo of the opening movement; however, tempi in the baroque era were lighter and more lively than the tempi of the large-scale performances of the 19th and early 20th centuries. Most delightful!

This 1989 Edel recording of Vivaldi choral music, reissued here by Brilliant in 2014, is a somewhat short (51minute) piece of heaven. The 20 member Hallenser Madrigalisten, and the similarly small Virtuosi Saxoniae, along with 3 amazingly nimble soloists, under Ludwig Guttler's able direction, enthusastically and cleanly deliver a surprisingly big sounding performance, full of detail and virtuosic delights. There are 3 pieces here: 'Ostro picta, armata spina', and introduction to the Gloria in D, followed by a Magnificat. The recording is spacious but close enough to hear everything, and very clean. Love it!

the truth is in the deep and accurate filologic research Alessandrini had done on the original partitura.
The truth is in the accurate use of ancient and wonderful istruments
and in the proper way of singing of female brightly voices "italian'700" , i mine nothing of all the dramatic strengt and patetism of the '800 opera's specialists
the Truth is the bitter - sweet and always sostenuta performance of Sara Mingardo alto (truly like chocolate as your rewiewer said).
and the magic quite light soprano Deborah York. I compared this version with another "Muti-Berganza-Valentini Terrani-New Philarmonia- Emi": no story. higly recommended!
