ＬＯＶＩＮ‘ＹＯＵで有名な彼女だが、これはその前に制作された記念すべきファースト・アルバム。近年４ＨＥＲＯがオープニング曲のＬＥＳ　ＦＬＵＥＲＳをリスペクトし、原曲にかなり忠実にカバーしていたが、音的にはソロ前のＲＯＴＡＲＹ　ＣＯＮＮＥＣＴＩＯＮの延長といったところ。ＣＨＡＲＬＥＳ　ＳＴＥＰＮＥＹプロデュースの荘厳なオーケストレーションがふんだんに使われ、ミニーの声と相まって最高にピースフルな雰囲気を醸しだしている。ＬＯＶＩＮ‘　ＹＯＵ以降はエレピを効果的に用い、メローな曲が多くなったので、このアルバムやバンド時代のＲＯＴＡＲＹ　ＣＯＮＮＥＣＴＩＯＮは実に新鮮に聞こえる。このアルバムが気に入ったなら、ぜひＲＯＴＡＲＹ　ＣＯＮＮＥＣＴＩＯＮのアルバムやＣＨＡＲＬＥＳ　ＳＴＥＰＮＥＹプロデュースのＴＥＲＲＹ　ＣＡＲＲＩＥＲのＣＡＤＥＴというレーベルで制作された３枚の素晴らしいアルバムも聞いていただきたい。

A feast for the ears!

Charles Stepney arrangements, The Ramsey Lewis Trio (accompanied by an orchestra) and the fully realized vocals by Minnie Riperton, a pre “loving you” post The New Rotary Connection Minnie with dynamic vocal fireworks on display all throughout!

The legendary Chess Cadet label via a newly minted distribution partnership with GRT released this treasured vocal debut, that was lost in a re organization shuffle, then quickly disappeared from the marketplace! BUT not from the minor amount of music lovers’ hearts, minds and most importantly the ears that per chance, experienced it! Either in era or post, via limited reissues intermittently released, with varying degrees of audio quality throughout the CD era!

Hence longtime and newly minted fans were in constant pursuit of the “perfect” audio remastered version for their ultimate listening experience! Which lands us here with this reissue by Essential Media Content. The sound is the best yet... clear highs, greater separation with spatial resonance which allows for a more profound listening experience of this lost classic!

Throughout Minnie’s tenure with the Rotary Connection and their later incarnation, she offered jazz vocal hazing on selected tracks across (3) Ramsey Lewis Trio albums... Maiden voyage, Another voyage and Piano player. On some tracks she vocalized on the “hits” of the day, on others she gave directional hints at what was yet to come from her debut.

Come to my garden is an aural marvel!

The full length album features fuller vocal recordings of those Ramsey Lewis Trio highlights with self penned tracks added to round out the project. Despite the production largesse Minnie’a vocals at times exudes other worldly effects taking on an ephemeral wistfulness in her upper register and the intimacy that her soprano naturally calls for is on display delivering songs full of hope promise and humanity.

COME is a holdover gift from the later day “flower power” movement with those sentiments heavy on display intermixed with elements of psychedelia and the most compelling jazz breaks. Released in the early 70s. A time of tumult and change with the previous decade’s ideals and aesthetics lost or fading with the rise of the “me” generation, the huge popularity of the singer songwriter movement (which this album actually somewhat complement ) and what we now know to be the pending onslaught of the disco boom around 1974/75.

Doch, doch, es handelt sich hier tatsächlich um Soul, zumindest eine sehr spezielle Form hiervon - etwa so, als hätte sich Phil Spector entschieden statt Tina Turner und River Deep, Mountain High lieber Kate Bush und Wuthering Heights zu produzieren - mit einem Motown-Soul Grundton. Auch ein Vergleich mit den Produktionen eines John Franz - frühe Dusty Springfield - kommt für den orchestralen Glanz, den Charles Stepney hier erzeugt, in Frage: Soul für Soul-Gourmets - solche mit Vorliebe für Fugu: von außen mysteriös, innen extremely dangerous.
