欲望のバージニアに続き、見ました。
こちらでは、欲望の方で悪者役だったガイピアースが、詩的な役でした！すごいです・・・
舞台はオーストラリアの開拓時代で、先住民のアボリジニ―に対するイギリス人たちのふるまいも
描かれています。監督のヒルコート氏、ガイピアース、それから脚本と音楽のニック・ケイヴもオーストラリア人です。
ヒルコート氏は、この時代を描かねば、と思った、とメーキングで言ってました。
一つの苛烈な時代が、ここに、なるべく真に迫った描写で、描かれている感じします。
観終わって、どうしても忘れられず、確実に真実たるべきダイヤモンドとか硬質の金属のような存在感を感じさせる、
傑作だと思います。詩的という点では、ペキンパーのガルシアの首を思い出しました。

1880年代、初期移民時代オーストラリアのアイルランド系ならず者三兄弟の物語です。長男アーサーバーンズはイギリス系一家を惨殺して逃げてしまします。次男のチャーリーと三男のマイキーは当局に逮捕されますが、当局責任者のキャプテンスタンリーは次男にある提案（Proposition)を持ちかけます。それはチャーリーを解放し、長男のアーサーを殺させるものでした。クリスマスまでに実行されなければ、三男のマイキーは死刑となってしまします。二者択一を迫られるチャーリーは荒野をさまよい、兄を探すのでした。

初期移民時代のオーストラリアの広大な赤い砂漠と、過酷な環境下の人々の暮らしがリアルでもあり詩的でもあり、又、イギリス人に恨みを抱くアーサーの異常とも言える復讐シーンやマイキーの拷問シーンなどは大いに暴力的でもあり、様々な要素が混在する稀有な作風だと思います。

主役のガイピアースは『LAコンフィデンシャル』や『メメント』で好演したオーストラリアの俳優です。悲劇も喜劇もアクションも幅広くこなす役者で、この映画でも二者択一の中で苦悩する次男役を抑えた表現でみごとに演じています。日本では余り知られていないのが残念です。

本編は地味な映画なので、日本では劇場公開されずＤＶＤのみの発売となったようですが、掘り出し物の一作であると思います。

Red Dead Redemption: The Man from Blackwaterという
短編映画の監督と同じと知らずに拝見しました。
レッドデッドリデンプションのゲームと似ているところがあって面白かったです。
ただアーサーは、良い人かと思ったら最低な人でした。
夕日のシーンは、感動しました。

素晴らしい映画です　今や壊滅状態の西部劇ですがこんな面白い映画が出来てなんか救われた気がしました。
キャストがこれまたガイ・ピアースにレイ・ウィンストンにエミリーワトソン極め付けに
ジョン・ハートという曲者ぞろいの豪華キャスト　映画ファン必見です
サム・ペキンパーに捧げるとあってストーリーとか映像美とか似てるところがあった
「ビリーザキッド」「ワイルドバンチ」なんかの匂いがしました　スローモーション使ってないのは意外だったけどね
しかしこのジョン・ヒルコートという監督この監督の作品一作目ですがかなり良いです
鬼才と言う奴ですねそこらへんのわっぱもんにこんな映画作れません　美しい映像に血と暴力
最後は絶望みたいな感じだけどバイオレンス映画でありながらホーム・ドラマにもなっていて
かなり良いです　この映画ホントオススメ映画館で見れなかったのが残念でしたがこの監督に拍手を送りたい気分であります

去年、イギリスでたまたま観た映画ですが、最高の西部劇です。

オーストラリアが舞台になっているので原住民との関係等も描かれ、新鮮味があり、
キャラクター描写も鋭い。

主人公のガイ・ピアースもいいですが、兄役のレイ・ウィンストンが醸し出すカリスマ性は凄い。

日本で劇場公開されなかったのは残念。

まずこれは西部劇ではありません!パッケージがマカロニ・ウエスタンのように格好良いですが、舞台は開拓時代のオーストラリアです。
ストーリーは走れメロスそのまんま。罪人の弟を殺されたくなければ、決められた期日(クリスマス)までに兄を殺してこいと言われた男の物語。
ひたすらダラダラと続く演出が見ていてキツイです。思い出したように挿入されるバイオレンスや腐乱死体なども必要ない感じでした。

The Proposition is amongst a band of movies and television series that seeks to present white Australian history as it mingled with the Australian outback (country) and the indigenous Australians – the many tribes of aboriginal people that were grouped together as “mobs” (nations). This history, especially after the first one hundred years of white colonization, was hard, raw, savage and uncultured, as the early convicts and settlers left the coastal towns and ventured inland – to the deserts, mountains, scrublands, and plains – seeking to carve out a living, taming the land, shaping the landscape and their existence as near as possible to what life was like in the British Isles they had left.
The proposition focuses on an Irish family with the name of Burns, a rough group who relied on the strength of instant action, firearms, and the blade to settle their conflicts. Their conflicts were several and this movie is about how, in the harsh, unforgiving landscape, Charlie Burns (Guy Pearce) is presented with an impossible proposition by the local law enforcer, Captain Stanley (in one of Ray Winstone’s more convincing roles). Stanley is a stickler for process and sees himself as a former British army officer who brings the same qualities and discipline into his work as a state policeman, with the task, as he sees it, of “civilizing” the country.
Following a dastardly crime committed by the more notorious members of the Burns family, and to save his younger brother, Mikey, from the gallows, it is proposed that Charlie Burns hunts down and kills the key family member and older brother, Arthur (an excellent, even chilling, performance by Danny Huston). Overseeing the events and making what will prove to be a calamitous decision, is the self-styled owner of the town (played in character by the Australian actor, David Wenham). Completing an impressive cast of actors is Emily Watson, playing the innocent wife of Captain Stanley, a faithful wife whose husband seeks to shield from the brutalities and hostilities of their lives and environment. Their care for each other is one of the more civilizing influences in the dispersed community of which they are part.
The above mixture of lives and events makes for a compelling storyline, and the action of the movie is illustrative of the varied situations of the characters, their response to their personal life histories and present situations. Always floating in the narrative background, is the ignorant attitude to, and brutal treatment of, the indigenous people. The movie exudes a palpable sense of foreboding, and the lives and events of the harsh environment fester against the oppressive heat, constant dust or mud, and violent electrical storms of their environment, with each character taking on his or her punishing moral dilemmas as the inevitable cycle of violence reaches is bloody conclusion.
The movie may remind the viewer of the North American wild-west setting of the movie and TV series, Deadwood, with, if anything, a bleaker canvas against which the lives of pioneers, hardened criminals, law enforcement officers, law-abiding and innocent settlers, and opportunistic businessmen are all portrayed in various hues and colours. Deadwood had gold rush country; The Proposition is reflective of the immense grandeur of the Australian outback constantly hardened by the relentless sun, intermittent drought or flood, and the ever-present reminder that the lives who those who live there as settlers interact with aboriginal people who have lived in, with, and of the land for thousands of years.
The proposition is a powerful, riveting, and violent film, shown in an uncut version (18 rating). It is a movie which captivates the viewer with its personal and intra-personal histories, community actions, mixed motivations, a gathering of the detritus, the self-seeking and self-serving, as well as the gentle folk who arrived as unsuspecting colonizers of a vast country, Australia. All aspects of this impressive movie are overseen by the magnificent terrain of the land down under. A film to see, and view again.

Not enough films like this. I can't remember the story from "The Flash" that I watched last weekend. This film will be remembered for many years in my mind.

E' un film straordinario. Perfetto nell'interpretazione, sceneggiatura, montaggio, colonna sonora, fotografia e regia. Di alta suggestione è un western australiano come mai è stato realizzato prima. Il miglior film australiano accanto al film AUSTRALIA. Per chi ama quella terra un film che si vede e rivede più volte.

DVD neuf arrivé le 8 mars 2018 en 6 jours, OK !
Comme le l'ai souvent écrit, vous le savez, je suis un collectionneur acharné,
Qui transforme sa Vidéo-thèque en ''DV-thèque'' et pour ce mois de mars, principalement
pour ces films d'actions avec Angélina Jolie, Kevin Costner, George Clooney, Julia Roberts, Demi Moore !
Il est donc inutile de vous dire, que je recommande ce genre de DVD à toutes et à tous !
Pour voir ou revoir ces films monuments... aux prix moyen d'un paquet de clopes.
