４０年来のケヴィン・エアーズ　ファンです。
CD化されてないアルバムがまだ２〜３有りますが、
期待しています。

浜辺にコラージュされた、誰もいない蜃気楼のような遊園地・・・ジャケ絵がケヴィンの不思議な歌世界を雄弁に物語っている。

ジャケの右すみの立て看板に「ジョイ・オブ・トイ」にも描かれていたあのホルンを吹くカエルがいた！郷愁と感動がこの盤にはある。

本作は原点回帰とも言える、ケヴィン流のゆるポップの傑作でしょう。ケヴィンのファンなら買って絶対損はしない名盤。

引退宣言をしてもう新譜は聴けないと思っていた
英国ロックの重鎮KEVIN AYERS！遂にでました！
STILL LIFE WITH GUITAR以来１５年ぶりです。
感じとしては９０年代の傑作FALLIN UPに近い
感じです。あのダルな声で素敵なメロディを
歌います。こんなに普通の歌を普通に歌って
決まるオヤジを他に知りません。３０分ちょっと
のgood music!!!

カンタベリー系の中でも極めて異端で、そのルーズで虚脱しつつ、人間性の深遠を突く視線、それらが唯一無比の存在感を醸してきたケヴィン。しかし全く音沙汰のなかった中に突然届けられた本作は、その出来が、まさに現役そのもので驚いた。

ロック色濃かった「フォーリン・アップ」ギタ中心のストイックさが際立った「スティル・ライフ・ウィズ・ギター」とは質感が異なり、のどかなホーンや繊細なストリングスが効果的に配置され、サウンドが豊潤になった。そこに太くノンビリした歌声が重なる様は、ビーチボーイズの「フレンズ」に似た展開をかもし出す。

そこにTrk3、Trk6あたりのポップな展開あり、Trk8のミニマルなシンセの輪廻がプログレッシブさあり、途中に不吉なメリーゴーラウンド音が重なるTrk9の実験性あり、とまさしくケヴィンの持ち味が遺憾なく発揮されている。

遂に、彼の独自の個性に時代が追いついたのではないか。秋ののどかな昼下がりにじんわり聴きたい作品だ。

数年前から制作中と伝えられていた「最後の作品」がついに出た。本当にこれを最後に引退しちゃうのかな。っていままでもすでに半分隠居してたみたいな人だから、また気が変わって新作を作ってくれるかなとも期待してしまうけど。
作品は、これで終わりするにはもったいないほど、生き生きしたいい歌が詰まっている。すてきなジャケットが満喫できる紙ジャケの日本盤を買いました。ボーナスはないけど、歌詞対訳と解説も充実していました。参加ゲストもオジリナルのジャケットには各曲別の表記がないのだけど、解説に詳しく書かれています。
最高の作品です。

Well, I even bought this one twice.
It's - as far as I know - the last studio recording that Kevin was able to publish before he died some years later.
Last weekend I met again a girl I haven't seen for a while and longing to offer her something very precious, I gave her this newly bought "Unfairground".
In consequence, I ordered it once more.
Because, I need to have this record myself nonetheless.
It remembers me a lot of his 1st one "JOY OF A TOY".
Same skill of arrangements and classy'n' elegant tunes reminding JofT's "Town Feeling" (for instance).
A pure AYERS, one of his best.
I admire that he could publish this one before leaving.

First introduced to Kevin Ayers through the June 4th 1974 Album with John Cale, Nico, Eno and friends. One of the best things about Kevin Ayers is that he has always avoided fame, preferring a good bottle of wine and the company of the ladies to superstardum. His music has always been an exotic mixture of hard rock, psychadelic, ballads and odd ditties. Unfairground is no exception. Some brilliant songs here with very clever lyrics that, as another reviewer has noted, will grow on you. Listened to it the whole way through four times now and already several songs are stuck in my head. Great musicians and solid songs. Kevin's voice has also retained its deep lovely tone and his black humour shines on several songs. Unfariground stands up nicely beside his earlier classics like Whatevershegringswesing and Shooting at the Moon. Buy it and you will be singing along to Run Run Run before you know it!

Wonderful! After such a long wait, this is a remarkable record. Instantly memorable songs by truly gifted artists: this is among Mr. Ayers finest collections of great music. I got an Ehrwurm (ear worm---when you can't get a song out of your head) on the first hearing of the first song (Only Heaven Knows) that lasted a full week. The last time that happened to me was the song "Scarred for Life" by Slapp Happy (from Ca-Va; also a great record. But of course, I am writing about Kevin Ayers here. Kevin lives up to his fine reputation of classy, bluesy R & B, and the man's voice has not diminished in the least with age. He has become more like a fine wine that only gets better with age. The only sad note is that Ollie Halsall's great guitar no longer plays on this earth. Wine, women, song, and of course, bananas (a banana is on the cover art and hard to find--sorry, no hints!)
So, whether or not you are already a fan, or have never heard him before, buy this disc with complete confidence. Not to brag (!), but I have all of his discs, and ALL of his LP's (still in near mint condition). Let us hope that Kevin Ayers dosen't make us wait another 15 years for his next sublime masterwork.

Quel beau faiseur de chansons fatiguées que ce Kevin trop doué pour travailler. La paresse communicative est encore au rendez-vous même si la voix n'est malheureusement déjà plus là. Honnêtement, cela ne vaut les perles musicales des années septante.
