BECKの名作に未発表曲やリミックスが加わって２枚組みになっての新装版です。カントリーなのかジャズなのか、でもテクノも駆使してあって古臭くもない不思議なサウンドです。近年のアルバムはやや大衆向きで聴きやすいものが多いですがこの頃はへんてこでおしゃれな音楽という感じです。この時期のものが一番好きだったという人も多いのではないでしょうか。リマスターされてないのが残念です。既存曲を無理やり詰め込んだ感も否めないので１点減らしておきましたが音楽はすばらしいです。

I'm currently trawling through a book call "1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die" and obviously this was included, why? Because the ideas, imagination and (most importantly) instantly likeable catchy tunes flowing out of this mans brain are truly remarkable. Hip-hop, Country, Punk, they're all here and done to perfection. Essential.

This is one of my favorite Beck albums. Every song on this album is great. Beck is able to mix up musical styles like no other artist, and it all works - on one album even! The first track - Devil's Haircut kind of blows the doors open. Hotwax and Where It's At are both funky jams that I never get tired of. Jack-Ass, Sissyneck, and Readymade have a little bit of a country feel to them. Then he mixes it up even more with Novacane and Minus faster tracks with rap. Is there anything musically that this man cannot do?

Although I have a copy of the album in it's original format, this Deluxe edition is a great addition and well worth the cost. The extra tracks are superb as is the whole package.

The last great Beck album before he went cliché and commercial. I have what is called the Deluxe edition which includes a second disc of "remixes". The bonus second disc, however, adds nothing to the creativity and sharpness of the original and I would recommend just getting the album itself, which is undoubtedly less expensive. The remixes aren't imaginative or even particularly well-produced. Odelay, on the other hand, is Beck's finest hour, the songs as fresh today as they were two decades ago. His wit and musical sensibilities shine here, with "Devils Haircut", "Where It's At" and "The New Pollution" leading the melodic romp. Songwriting doesn't get much better than this and it's a shame he never reached a peak that high again.
