Japanese pressing of Moby's 2008 album includes one bonus track, 'Clef'. This sixth studio album from the unassuming studio genius follows 2005's Hotel and has been described by the man himself as a return to a more electronic and dancefloor oriented feel. Produced and recorded at his home studio in Manhattan, the record includes the single 'Alice' and features a variety of guest vocalists including the UK's MC Aynzli, Sylvia Gordon of Brooklyn indie-dance outfit Kudu, the Yoruba-speaking Nigerian 419 Crew, and Grandmaster Caz, one of the writers of the seminal Hip Hop anthem 'Rapper's Delight'.EMI.

At the crossroads of retro, (where that which was old becomes new again,) there's Moby. Already known for the rave-ups and chill tracks found on records like Everything Is Wrong, he crossed over in a big way with 1999's Play and its inventive--or to some, 'gimmicky'--gospel-meets-techno sound. His success enabled him to spend the 2000s trying out new tactics. The pop/instrumental approach of 2005's Hotel was indeed a far cry from '90s anthems like "Next Is the E." With Last Night, Moby checks through all those phases, and then some. There are glow-stick wavers like "Everyday It's 1989" and Euro-tech trashiness like "I'm In Love." There are also bits of hip-hop, break beats, blue-room tunes, and diva-disco numbers like "Disco Lies." In the liner notes, Moby explains the scattered focus of the record, simply stating, "a night out can ideally contain a multitude of experiences." A night out is one thing, but there's only so much you can stuff into 65 minutes. Still, it's an undeniable rush to hear Moby being Moby: cheerfully square, yet somehow cool, just like before. –Matthew Cooke

2. I Love Move In Here

　もう7年前の作品であって、少し錆が・・　まあ、然し中々良く出来た houseであって、のれますねえ( ﾟ∀ﾟ)

　Hey ! house 海苔リズムにのって、dance ヾ(^ｰ^)ゞﾀﾞﾝｽ

3. 257.Zero

　こちらも軽快なハウスの表徴であって、Cabs-Groovy- " あたりを彷彿とさせますね。

「日本の軍事強国化に狂奔している安部一味を粉微塵に打ち砕け！！」

9. Disco Lies

　女性ボーカルをエンファサイズした、house/pop number ですね。

　中々、聴いていて心地いいねえ♪♪

10. The Stars

　まあまあのハウスですね。

　Hey ! うりゃっ！ big/beats にのって、danser ヾ(^ｰ^)ゞﾀﾞﾝｽ

11. Degenerates

場面が変転し、down-tempo /house の奔流であります。

12. Sweet Apocalypse

　このナンバーは軽快であり、ややambientがかったambient/techno の表出といってもよろしいでしょうね。

　トランスとも言えるでしょう。じっくりと聴きましょう、listen to !

13. Mothers Of The Night

　結構心地いいトランスですね。

　平日であれば、眠気を催すかも(^^

14. Last Night

　中々素敵なアトモスフィアーなトランス・テクノです。

　ヴォーカルは、Sylbia嬢であります。

　はてここらで「重ねドルチェ　ビタースイート」を食べましょうい、ケロちゃん・コロちゃん、ちゅーるちゅーるる、ビターテイストもたまには美味しいね、

　うーん、おいちい　おいちい　♪(ﾟ▽^*)ﾉ⌒☆

15. Clef / Lucy Vida

　はて宴もたけなわですが、いよいよラストの鬨を迎えました。

　まあハウスです。

　さて本作は、Moby の”Hotel Ambient”　に引き続く通算14枚目のアルバムに成りますか？

　まあアンビエントとハウスの融合がファンダメンタルなるパロールでしたあ・

どこを切っても、モビーです。
エレクトロニカとかハウスなんかのジャンル分けは無意味です。
これは、もうモビーというジャンルですね。

特にサプライズも無く、前作の延長戦です。
ここでこうくると予想すると、やっぱりこうくるので、
気持ちいいといえば、気持ちいいんですが、
やっぱり、前々作のような刺激は少ないです。

あと勢いも落ちたかな？
これはやっぱり、いまのラップにしてもテクノにしても、
業界全体が、新機軸を生み出せない状況を、
如実に表している気がしますね。

First, you should know I was blown away by "Play," the first Moby CD I purchased that really hooked me on him as an artist. But subsequent albums left me curious but mostly cold--I enjoyed some of the cuts, but nothing grabbed me like "Play." The good news: This new CD, "Last Night," does engage me and transport me--the sign of a great album in my opinion. It's not perfect, which I thought "Play" was, but there is some terrific stuff here, and I've listened to the CD in its entirety many times since I bought it--and it continues on my iTunes playlist as well--with many of the songs rated 5 stars for heavy rotation.

It's a shame that Moby has become almost the ubiquitous sound of advertising to the point that even though the music on Play and 18 were great, they will forever be remembered for the products they advertised.

By way of comparison Last Night is a return to the dance music that characterised Moby's early releases. The tunes themselves have the feel of early Moby like 'Go', 'Feeling So Real' and 'Anthem' which is fantastic. The album itself feels as if it winds its way through a night out, from the euphoria of preparing and getting to a club, and eventually coming back down to the late night reflection on what was and might have been. While the tunes hint at the past the production and quality of music and vocals (from the myriad of different guest vocalists) are bang up to date.

If you only buy one dance music album this year make it this one!
