I'm not saying I agree with the label of bands that fall into the "post-rock" genre, but here it is. What is post-rock anyway? The label itself doesn't even make grammatical sense. However, being what it's been labeled, Hammock is a great band. Don't expect to hear ear drum shattering distortion though, as with Mono, Explosions in the Sky, Exxasens, Caspianand Russian Circles. Hammock know how to finesse a nice mood and ride it out without losing the listeners interest. Though there are some points in a few songs that climax to those heights, the music comes across more like a well written movie score. I like this album a lot. However, I will still contend that Longest Year is my favorite Hammock album. Long story short, if you dig instrumentals, put music on while you work or do stuff around the house, or even delve into the ambient side of rock, then you'll probably enjoy Hammock.
