New Cool Collective hit's some off- note or sour notes on this disc but it's in a Jazz medium, so it's understandable perhaps. The compositions themselves show some care unlike some other pretenders to the genre that repeat unhook-worthy lines repetitively. These guys have the chops, the creativity, the adept musicianship and the interesting compositions. I usually shy away from jazz but there is enough percussion and groove here to keep the whole recording grooving right along. Each song shows that originality and uniqueness that seems to be their signature. That is Four and A Quarter Stars by the way. By Jonathan Still
