Rhaaahh ça y est, ça me reprend ! Arg ! DSK sort de mon corps !)...Bref un "Must Have" comme ils disent. Je recommande à 100%
I haven't had this much fun listening to an album since the heydays of the Cocteau Twins. Beautiful songcraft, and singing from two gorgeous voices create a mesmerizing listening experience. Ben Curtis cooks up a backdrop of atmospheric soundscapes for the Deheza sisters harmonizing, calling, responding and sounding utterly joyous. Add in the synth-beats and we have dream pop bliss... a splendid debut!
of hearing 'Iamnotyourdisguise' on KEXP I excitedly rushed down to the store and bought it... Resonation not felt in a long time Sadly, no muisical Nirvana, just another "what was I thinking?" disc -into the sell pile; But maybe the rest will grow on me-but it didnt excite me like Iamnotyour... That song could have been arranged a little better. but it got my wallet out within the day such beautifull harmonies that need some expansion space and structured discipline, a song with less commotion and some reverb/space-where the sisters can counter harmonize to each other,. and fill most of the soundstage with sparce instruments-that would be beautiful Stripping down the song to just the vocals and some acoustic giutar or bass wold have been interesting also, some inner sleeve is needed-grade b cardstock will have it nice and scratched in no time-plus-turning the cover at an angle and the disc falls out- I know they cost money but maybe they could have done without the GF sleeve but, what do I know? that their next album will ground them --------------------------- EDIT 10.2009 after seeing them live ive upgraded my rating, and pulled the disc out of the SELL pile; ALSO Amazon list the IMPORT as having 13 tracks, then proceed to list the standard 11; They are:
1. Iamundernodisguise 2. Face To Face On High Places 3. Half Asleep 4. Wired For Light 5. For Kalaja Mari 6. White Elephant Coat 7. Connjur 8. Sempiternal/Amaranth 9. Chain 10. Prince Of Peace 11. My Cabal *12. Trance Figure *13. If I Had Glass Hands And Glass Feet
Truly this is an awesome album. The pionering cadence and voice harmony of the Deheza twins is to behold. School of Seven Bells has broken new ground in music interpretation. The messages contained in the lyrics enrich the lives of those who carefully listen. To me is the best music I've heard in a long, long time.
