ナレーションもなく淡々と描かれる、私たちの食卓に並ぶものたちの姿。
グルメとか大盛りとか映えとかに慣れてしまって麻痺している「食べるとは」ということを、丁寧に冷静に淡々と伝える映像が続きます。
食材だけではなく、それを育てたり収穫したり加工する人の姿も映ります。
中には辛い映像もありますが、見てみないふりをしてはいけないものなのだと思いました。

これは、今まで見た中で、色んな意味で最も衝撃的で、また重要な作品にもなった。最初のヒヨコのシーンからかなり引いたが、牛豚鶏のシーンは一生忘れられないだろう。車の製造ラインよろしく屠畜されていく動物たちよりも、そこで働いている人の顔から目が離せず、生に対する人間の業の深さを強く感じた。
勧めるつもりは無いが、見れるうちに見ておくべき作品。

美しい画像？どこに、そんな画像があったろうか？
最新テクノロジーのマシンで魚、鳥、豚や牛が人間の食糧の過程を映してるだけ。
次に自分が殺されるのを感じ断末魔の叫びをあげる牛や豚を、ただ、ただ映してる．．．
見てる自分がこの有様を鑑賞してる？ようなおぞましささえ感じた。
「フードインク」の方が、アメリカの現状の食肉の在り方を目の当たりに出来、多方面から考えさせられる内容だ。

まさにタイトル通り『 "いのち" の食べ方』について、深く考えさせられました。

スーパーで、安く、安く、販売されている "いのち" 。

"いのち" につけられた価格は、こんなに安くていいのだろうか。
"いのち" のいただき方は、こんなにあっけないものでいいのだろうか。
"いのち" って、誰が決めるのだろうか。

この映画を見なければ、知らなかった真実
いや、知りたくなかった真実を正面から見ることができなかったと思います。

”いのち” の食べかたを、もう一度見直す大切な映画です。

特にナレーションも無く、ひたすら家畜や野菜などの収穫、加工の様を流し続けるドキュメントと言ったら良いのでしょうか。

欧米の酪農を映したものかと思いますが、野菜や果物は収穫後、農薬漬けにし、表面がテッカテカになってたり。

野菜や果物はまだそれほどでもないですが、家畜の方はモザイクとか無しで殺される一部始終が収録されているので、自分達が普段食している料理に使われてる牛や豚や鳥などどういう過程で食卓にあがってくるのか、一度は見ておくと、価値観が変わると思います。

安易に豚や牛が可愛い！食べるなんて可哀そう！
サバンナにてライオンが鹿などをハンティングするシーンが時折バラエティなどで流れたりしますが、あれを見て、ああいうの残酷だから見たくないんだよね。。
という人も少なくないのでは？

でもこれを見た後に私が思ったのはライオンは自分や群れの腹を満たすため、最小限の命を絶ち自分達のエネルギーにしている、なんて良心的なんだ！と感じました。

牛の頭部に電気ショックを与えられ気絶させられる時の嫌がりよう、悲しそうな目
無表情で頭部に電気ショックを押し付け気絶させる人間の係の方。

豚もトンネルのような所に人間が押し込めて、一気に電気ショック。
中には牛同様気絶しきれていない家畜もいますが、後は釣るし型のコンベアに後ろ脚を引っかけ
回転式カッターのようなもので気絶した豚の腹を裂き、内臓をベロンと出させる・・・
そうしてどんどん加工されていきます。

鶏は産まれたヒヨコを工場の様な所で人間も作業をしていますが、基本は機械が全自動でヒヨコを投げるようにカゴの中に仕分けたり、落っことして下のコンベアに乗せて運んで行ったりとなんとも食肉動物に対しての経緯も無い機械的な仕分けがなされていきます。

ある程度は大きなハウスのような所で飼育され、ある程度育つと掃除機のようなもので鶏達を吸い込んでいき、どういう仕組みか足を吊るされコンベアで運ばれていきます。

そしてそこから全自動で動くカッターがあり、首の動脈をスパスパと効率よく掻っ切っていきます。
気絶してるはずですが、何故か首を切られ羽をばたつかせ、何とかそれでも逃げ出そうと、一生懸命生きようともがく鶏の姿が映っています。

次に何やら小さい筒のような中に次々と吊るされた鶏たちが入っていき、出てきたころには毛が全部無くなり、つるっぱげになっています。

とまぁこんな感じで淡々と動物達が殺され加工されていく様が見れるわけですが
死ぬ運命にあっても一生懸命生きようとしてる家畜とは違い、社会での大なり小なりの困難にぶち当たって早くも自殺を決断する人間。

自殺したい気持ちもわかりますが、自ら命を絶つ勇気、決断が出来るなら死ぬ前にもうひと踏ん張りできるんじゃないか？
それでは今までなんのために己の血肉・エネルギーになるため
生きたいけど食料として死んでいった動物達にも申し訳ないと感じるかも。

家畜に限らず、生きたくても難病にかかり余命を宣告された人とかもありますけど。

話それました；すいません。

何はともあれ、自分達の身近に関わっていながら汚い部分は見ないで過ごすよりも、こういう汚れ役な部分も見ておくことで物に対する見方や価値観ってかなり変わって来るものだと思います。
一度は見てみる価値あり！

最後に最も残酷なのは私の結論としては人間です
金儲けのため売れるか売れないかも含めビジネス要素もかねてどんどん生産し、大量に売れ残った物は焼却処分。

こうして毎日沢山の食糧が廃棄されています。
一方では食べたくても食料が無く飢えている国もある中・・
もったいないし、人間の都合で殺され血肉にすらなれなかった家畜達が成仏できないかも。

それに比べればライオン他人間以外の食物連鎖の上に立つ他の動物達なんて人間に比べたら、とても道徳的な生物に見えてきますよ。

今の子ども達に是非見てほしい。

恐らく目を背けてしまうような場面も多々あると思う。しかし、肉や魚、野菜などはすべて同じような生産の過程をクリアして私たちの食卓にならぶ。
食卓の上の「それ」が、何なのか、学んでほしいと思う。

現代社会で生きている以上は、せめて知っておかなければならない現実、そしてそれが人間の生き物に対するマナーなのではないだろうか。

罪悪感を感じ、感謝し、いただきますの重さを感じることができる一作。

食肉工場や野菜工場？からの撮って出し的な素の映像集。この作品だけを見た後、素直に「命は大切にいただきます！」と言える内容かといえば残念ながらNOです。　「食とはなにか？」を考える前に他の生命を奪う罪悪感（を助長させる映像作り）から拒食になってしまう人もいるのではないでしょうか。　小学生・中学生に見せるような内容ではありません。　食育のための映像のソースとしてならそれなりに価値のある資料だと思います。

Have you ever wondered how chickens are "being produced", as if they were "animal machines" ? Or how cows are being milked today ? Or what kind of outfit people have to wear when they spray our tomatoes with those "harmless" - if we may believe the FDA - pesticides ?

Nikolaus Geyrhalter comments on his film : "I wanted to collect and make accessible images from this branch, this world in as objective a manner as possible. What makes it fascinating are the machines and the sense of what's doable, the human spirit of invention and organization, even at close quarters with horror and insensitivity. Plants and animals are treated just like any other goods, and smooth functioning is extremely important. The most important thing is how the animals can be born, raised and held as efficiently and inexpensively as possible, how to treat them so they're as fresh and undamaged as possible when they arrive at the slaughterhouse, and that the levels of medications and stress hormones in the meat are below the legal limits. No one thinks about whether they're happy."

Watch this DVD and be amazed, or horrified ! There are no interviews, no music either. You are left alone with your thoughts.

If you like what you see, the smooth functioning of the machines and the lack of happiness of our "animal machines", continue to enjoy your hamburger at McDonald's.

If you don't like it, think of how farming was done less than a century before. Farmer John Peterson says : "It used to be that everyone in this country had a connection to farms, but now most of these farms have gone". I think we should reestablish this connection. Peterson also uses a certain level of mechanization, but it doesn't go berserk. Watch his DVD to see another form of farming, very different to what you will see in this documentary :  The Real Dirt on Farmer John . Peterson's farm, Angelic Organics, has 1200 shareholders from a Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) scheme. Each shareholder receives each week a box full of fresh and healthy vegetables and fruits. This way, the farm performs its historical role again, reuniting the people with the source of the food.

Ein wirklich großartiger Augenöffner. Obwohl ich ein bewusst konsumierender Mensch bin und seit einiger Zeit den kompletten Haushalt Stück für Stück auf Bio umgestellt habe, hat mich dieser Film erschüttert. Der Einstieg ist dann auch gleich wachrüttelnd - die kleinen Hühnchen, wie Kartoffeln aufs Band geworfen. Ich glaube am meisten hat mich die Frau beschäftigt, die am Band sitzt, die toten, eben geschlachteten Schweine fahren vorbei und sie kneift mit einer Zange die Füße ab. Eigentlich ein ganz "normaler" Prozess in der Massenproduktion. Aber DIESER Gesichtsausdruck - brrrrrhhhh - Eiseskälte. Auch die Arbeiterin, welche die Hühnchen aufs Band wirft - nächste Szene - die Frau im Pausenraum, die ein belegtes Brot isst (Hähnchenwurst???). Die Menschen wirken wir die Maschinen, die sie bedienen - alles automatisiert - keine Gefühle mehr da.
Oder der Mann auf dem "Bagger", welcher die Hühnchen dann zum Staubsauger treibt, welcher sie einsaugt - und - welcher Sarkasmus - auf das gleiche Band spuckt, das sie in diesen Stall - nö, kein Stall, eine riesige Halle mit 20 cm Platz pro Huhn (oder so ähnlich) wirft, wo sie ihre 35 Tage "leben" dürfen ... Ekelerregend!!!
Wieso dürfen eigentlich auf den Hähnchenverpackungen dieser 99 Cent-Göckel Wiesen usw. abgebildet werden???
Eine Frechheit!

Wundert sich noch jemand, dass wir immer kränker werden?
Ist immer noch nicht bekannt, dass ALLES Energie ist?
Welche Energie - mal von den reinen "Sach"werten wie Nährstoffe abgesehen - soll dieses so erzeugte Gefräß denn haben? Keine positive, soviel ist sicher.
Und wieso dürfen sich all diese so produzierten Magenfüller dann immer noch Lebensmittel nennen? Was haben die noch mit Leben zu tun???

Der Film schließt auch die pflanzlichen Futteralien mit ein - Tomatenpflanzen so hoch wie Bäume, in Treibhäusern - ein ganzes Tal voll - in Spanien. Man sieht die Arbeiter, die ohne ausreichenden Schutz diese Tomaten mit Gift besprühen. Pflanzen, die nicht mal mehr die Erde zum Wachsen zugestanden bekommen.

Und so geht es weiter. Aber das reicht eigentlich. Vielleicht noch die Olivenbäume. Eine riesige Maschine, die den Baum unten am Stamm packt und schüttelt ... Im ersten Moment bin ich erschrocken, dann musste ich lachen, weil die Szene allzu obskur und bizarr wirkt.
Aber diese - an sich harmlose - Szene ist ein perfektes Synonym für alles Gezeigte. Wir gehen einfach respektlos mit unserem Essen um - angefangen bei der Produktion, weitergehend beim Transport und Einkauf (billig muss es sein), noch weitergehend bei der Zubereitung. Das soll uns ernähren? Nähren? Erfüllen?
Na ja ...

This well-wrought documentary, set in Europe, makes visible the shocking hugeness of contemporary factory farms. Despite the title, the film is not explicitly about "our daily bread". It is about the primary production of enormous quantities of food in factories, machine-dominated factories that produce everything including olives, salt, eggs, unborn calves for veal, fish-flesh, and hydroponic vegetables.

I found the absence of musical soundtrack and authorial comment a relief, and the sounds emanating from the factory buildings, fields, glasshouses, machines, animal and bird subjects, immensely telling.On occasions the silence of the animals was chilling. This is the farming of Technopoly where machines farm vast monocultures, and hitherto unimaginable cruelties are practised on sentient beings, including the humans who operate the factories with their press-buttons, de-beakers, levers, insemination probes and buckets, gigantic harvesters, sharp knives, electric prods and pressure cleaners. At the end of each episode is a human touch in the showing of the workers from the featured production areas taking a meal-break or "smoko", time off (or out) from the rapid tempo of soul-less machinery that governs their lives.

The horror of factory farming casts a grim shadow on our lives, and on our presumption that the world can endlessly supply more and more of our growing food demands at little cost. This film shows us how our prayer, "Give us this day our daily bread" is answered by Technopoly, and opens our eyes to the trespasses we might commit with each act of food consumption.

Those who like their food "more", "lots", "fast","efficient", would have no quibbles about the farming practices shown in the film. Those of us who sense that factory farming erodes the soul of the world might view the film as the beginning of a conversation about changing our food production and consumption practices to those that emphasise gentle reciprocity with Earth and with other sentient beings. Such a conversation would be deepened and enriched by a reading of Vandana Shiva's brilliant "Soil Not Oil. Environmental Justice in an Age of Climate Crisis" (2008).

Schrecklicher Film. Keine Worte oder auch mal Erklärungen dazu. Manchmal muss man raten was jetzt gemeint ist. Haben nach 3/4 des Films ausgemacht weil der Taubstummenfilm so sehr zäh ist und ich sauge normal alles nur so auf was mit dem Thema Ernährung und Herstellung mit Auswirkungen nur zu tun hat. Wenn man einen bezahlten Film wirklich nicht zu Ende schaut, hat das echt was zu sagen. Wirkt wie ein nicht fertiger Film. Wie gesagt-nicht ein Wort wird gesprochen und mache Rätsel kommen auf. Wollte einen informativen film/Reportage und nicht mehr aufgeworfene Fragen. Leider daher sehr schlecht! Sry

I had seen this documentary in our International Film Festival a couple of years ago and had found it a point for discussion and much thinking. In this day and age I think it important to consider where our food comes from. NZ is not quite so 'industrialised' in the food area (yet?!) but it reminded me to consider our local food and vegie market and growing our own vegies etc. I consider it important for anyone who cares about food and recommend it highly. Almost a totally visual message...no dialogue to direct you-you make up your own mind.
