ジャンル的には初期のサウンド（デビュー時のスレイヤー風）からスラッシュメタルに分類されていますが
大きく成長した本３ｒｄアルバムでは初期の荒々しさはそのままに、アレンジと曲構成が格段に洗練されて
もはや“アーティレリーのＨＭ”とも言える個性的なメタルサウンドを完成させています

とにかく全ての曲に強烈なフックが満載で、複雑な曲展開にも限らずとても聴きやすい音に仕上がってます
サウンドフォーマット的にはバリバリのスラッシュメタルですが、気持ちよいほどの疾走感は
どちらかというとハードロック的です

また、ひしゃげて濁った声で強烈なビヴラートをかけるフレミング・ロンズドルフの“歌声”も超個性的で
聴いててとても気持ちよいです。ちなみに彼は初期解散後はビートルズなどのカバーバンドで生計を
立てていたそうです。基本的に歌が上手い人なんですね

肝心のデジタルリマスター効果ですが、音圧と音量が多少上がってますが、音質自体はオリジナルの時点で
そこそこ良いのであまり違いは感じられません。ボーナストラックは“可も不も無く・・・”な内容なので
なぜか国内版リリース時に諸事象でカットされてしまった“Ｋｈｏｍａｎｉａｃ”目当てでなければ
わざわざ買い直す必要は無いです

追記

デジパック仕様のジャケットはオリジナルのジャケット（原版では無い）を撮影した物をそのまま使ってるので
画像がぼやけてて更に酷いです（苦笑）裏のメンバー写真はオリジナルのはもっと鮮明で綺麗です

高校の頃? 鬼のように聴きこんでいたArtilleryのBY INHERITANCEです。
永らくCDをショップなどで探していたのですが、当然20年も前のモノなので見つからず・・・で、思い出したかのようにAmazonでポチりました。
メタルテープに録音していましたが、今となってはまぁ聴けた音質ではなかったので、今回デジタルリマスタされた本品を聴いて涙を流しております。
(ちなみに、FLACのロスレスでリッピングしてPMPで聴いております)
パワフルで且つメロディアスな楽曲の数々にノックアウト気味で御座います。
昔からのレビューの通り、ジャケットのデザインは理解不能ですが、曲は文句なく素晴らしいです。
パワーメタルが好きな方には本当にオススメです!

artilleryは現在の作品も含めてどれも名作ばかりの貴重なバンドだと思うけど、このアルバムはスラッシュ・メタルのひとつの頂点ですよ。
リアルタイムで聴きまくった一枚。
個人的にはベスト3には必ず入る一枚です。
憂いのあるサウンド、ドラマチックな展開、リフのかっこよさなどなどポイントを挙げたらキリがないね！聴きどころだらけだよ。
日本盤Khomaniacカット騒動は、事件を考えたらわからなくもない(悪魔の詩訳者殺人事件。若い人はわからないと思うからググって下され)けど、やっぱりあれは超名曲だね！
でもそれ以外にも名曲、超名曲揃いなのだ。

愛媛のヘヴィメタル俳人

デンマーク出身スラッシュメタル・バンド、Artilleryが1990年に出した3rdアルバムです。新たなベーシストが加入し、それに伴いモルテンがベースからギターに切り替わっています。

本作は、「え？　ヴォーカル変わった？」と思ってしまうぐらい、前2作と作風の異なるアルバムです。まあ厳密にいうならば変わってるのはヴォーカルスタイルだけで、基本的な軸はぶれてません。しかし従来はどちらかと言えば荒々しい吐き捨てシャウトスタイルだったフレミングのヴォーカルが、Loudnessの二井原実を思わせる伸びやかでパワフルな歌い方になっており、バンドとして新たな扉を開いた感があります。実際本作をArtilleryの最高傑作、そしてスラッシュメタル必聴の名盤として挙げる声も多いです。

1stや2ndでもその片鱗を見せていたドラマ性が、本作ではグンと向上。哀愁あるメロディ要素まで織り込まれており、スラッシュ要素を保ちつつも、より普遍的なHR/HMへと門戸を広げた作風です。逆に言うと、スラッシュは汚くてなんぼという人たちにとっては、本作は「なんか違う…」と思ってしまうかもしれません。

東洋風…というか中東風のイントロを経て、#2 "Khomaniac" はキャッチーなメロディ要素とザクザクした刻みリフが耳を惹く、Artillery屈指の名曲。メロディ重視のパワフルなヴォーカルがとにかく強烈です。なおこの曲、発売当時の日本盤では当時の世界情勢を考慮してカットされていたのだとか。目まぐるしく展開の変わる、非常にドラマティックな曲です。

#5 "Bombfood" も激熱スラッシュ曲。冒頭は湿り気のあるメロディでしっとり聴かせ、伸びやかでパワフルなヴォーカルとメロディアスなリフによるアップテンポの中間パート。そして一気に疾走する後半という３段構えの曲で、じわじわ増していく緊張感と攻撃性が最高です。

ありきたりなスラッシュから一歩抜きんでた、Artilleryならではの個性を確立した作品です。攻撃性、力強さ、ドラマ性、メロディ要素など、メタル必須の要素を全部投入し、しかもその全てのキャラが立っている、彼らのセンスと実力が遺憾なく発揮されたアルバム。スラッシュファンのみならず、全HR/HMファン必聴です。

Artilleryというバンドを知らなかったスラッシュ初心者な当方、何となくYoutubeを観ていてこの最高なジャケットに惹かれて、khomaniacを
ポチリ、冒頭のリフでぶっ飛びました。複雑かつスピーディーに展開するリフに只々圧倒されて、食べてたカップラーメンが気づいたらゴムみたいにノビてました。
「こんなカッコ良いバンドいたのか！！」と音楽を聴いて久々に興奮しました。リフフェチのメタラーの方なら熱いものがこみ上げて来るでしょう！

Seven years i waited to get this album, that is when i started to buy albums, of course i know the album from youth when got into metal.
This album is one of the rare albums i always wanted, while buying other classics to my collection i always wondered when i get the chance to get it, i kept check it almost everyday but not available and to buy a used one was very expensive, but finally got a chance and with a decent price i bought it from someone, i really don't know how he could sell it, this is pure thrash classic but i am the lucky guy this time.
The album is their third classic must have album after the two excellent debut, enjoyable all along the album with great thrash gems.
You will love the riffs here and amazing solos all over it, and Flemming's vocals are outstanding, makes you clinch a fist and sing with him, do an air guitar, air drums, air bass, bang your head, climbing your walls, jump from your window, pick any treatment you like for 47 minutes.
Top tracks are 'Khomaniac', 'Life in Bondage' and 'Bombfood', thrash anthems but that is only if i need to select my top, because all is good and no skipping is allowed.
This album is a bit more melodic than the previous two but still very thrashy, the cover for 'Razamanaz' is different from the original, and i like when a cover is not a copycat, and here you can think it's a song by Artillery.
I love the artwork, Artillery always had amazing artworks, and for me it is part of the music, i can stare on the art cover for long.
I know this album is rare, but if you have a chance to get it, it worth any extra money, i am going to enjoy from it alot, after all the years i wait finally it get paid.

In my search for discovering underrated thrash metal masterpieces, By Inheritance automatically stands out among the rest. In my opinion, it is one of the few albums that can go toe to toe with anything the Big 4 released, and beat them. The riffs can compete with anything from Rust In Peace, the production is crisp and clean and rivals Master Of Puppets. If there was ever a competition over the best least known metal band, Artillery would easily win.

By Inheritance is a masterpiece in the world of thrash, and metal in general. The younger brother to the awesome riff fest that was Terror Squad, By Inheritence still retains that cathcy vibe as well as adding different riffs, and a much more complex style of solos. "7:00 From Tashkent" is our intro to this beast. A decent intro that will have you hooked with the arabian style opening riff. Sets up "Khomaniac" starts with a catchy riff that could fit on Terror Squad. We notice Flemming's voice has been dialed down a bit, but in a good way. He is much more melodic and shows why he is one of my favorite vocalists. The drumming is incredible, and not to mention the Stutzer brothers' performace on the guitars. "Beneath The Clay (RIP)" a great track to follow the energy from the first real song. This is totally a guitar driven track. The riffs and tempo changes rival anything the "bigger" bands have done. You will be singing along to the chorus. "By Inheritence" the title track, and another jewel off this masterpiece, blasts off right from the beginning. This is hands down on of the best performances from Flemming I have ever heard. His unique vocals compliment the Stutzers on guitars and the drums. "Bombfood" is lyrically, the most compelling song from the album. The transition from peacful melody to insane chaos riffage will have you wanting more and more. When Flemming wails "SOLDIER!" you know you are in for one killer track. This song also features one of the best solos on the album. "Don't Believe" has another incredibly melodic intro. Flemming also has a memorable performance here as well. Incredibly entertaining. "Life In Bondage" Insane riffing, great drumming, and killer vocals propel this track from beginning to end. Oh by the way, the solos will melt your face off. "Equal At First" the opening riff has a major Iron Maiden influence *The Trooper* "Razamanaz" a decent cover, but musically, it does not fit on here with the likes of the previous tracks. Its a good cover, it just sticks out like a sore thumb. "Back In The Trash" one of the top three songs to end an album. 1, My Last Words-Megadeth. 2.Raining Blood-Slayer. 3,Back In The Trash. This track is an amazing way to end this masterpiece. The vocal performance is darker than the rest of the album and the riffs are menacing.

Overall, you like music? Yeah? Well you should get this then. With insane riffs, incredible solos, a great frontman, and some very nice drumming, this album will make you wonder why these guys never hit it big.
