i wanna‾ i wanna‾ i wanna‾♪

Move Along

This album has a song on it that means a lot to my friend and I, and I am so so so happy it was available to buy here, because apparently it's no longer being made for sale. Nowhere I asked had it in, and several said they wouldn't be getting any more orders because it's no longer being sold at retail.

Album came wrapped in its plastic packaging and plays great!

It's no secret that The All American Rejects make music that is both cohesive and fun. They have lyrics that deal with fun and relationships without (mostly, there are exceptions) cursing. They don't have overtly explicit lyrics either. In fact, they're never explicit. They manage to put it with music that while it is commercial, is really good and chocked full of talent. Now, Move Along is still their best album to my ears, but this one continues in the vein of that album. There are strong drum beats provided by Chris Gaylor, some really good guitars performed by Nick and Mike, and Tyson sings wonderfully and gives us some bass action! I will say though that if you have their new album, "Kids in the Street", and you were disappointed (which I kinda was), this album is better!

The Music:

1. I Wanna- The song slowly fades in with some synth effects and Tyson and the guitars come in and then the song takes off. This is a good single and it is definitely a good song! The energy that made Move Along so good is here and the passion and emotion is still here as well! The drums are good as usual, but they are at their most epic in the pre-chorus of the song, which happens to also be the best part of the song. Tyson is giving a powerful performance and the guitars are actually kinda low in the mix until the bridge. I couldn't really hear them much. The solo is short, but sweet. It's a good solo! This is definitely a good lead off track. I wouldn't call it a top track by any means, but it's a good song.

2. Fallin' Apart- This one starts off with a nice rock beat. This is definitely a different direction than we saw on the previous album, but I do indeed like how this song came out! The drums take this song to a good level of uniqueness and Tyson's vocals are full of energy! The guitars on this one are once again lower in the mix than I like, when compared to the last album (and especially to the metal music I listen to :p) But regardless, it's a good song. The chorus sounds like a 70's/80's song and it comes off very nicely! I enjoy listening to this song. It's probably one of the best 5 songs on the album, but the best is yet to come!

3. Damn Girl- This one is a slower, mellower song. The song just now grew on me, but it is a good song. The guitars are FINALLY audible! The drums are strong, but they play it safe as opposed to the strong beat quality on the previous tracks. The music itself is pretty good and Tyson delivers. I don't have much to say about the song other than it's a good song, but it's not anywhere close to the top. It's closer to the bottom of the "best to worst list" but it's not bad.

4. Give You Hell- Well, you've heard it by now. It's the smash hit off the album. I can see why it's a single, BUT when compared to other songs on this album, it's kinda weak. And compared to previous singles, it isn't as good at all, especially with songs like Move Along and It Ends to Night. However, I'm not bashing this song at all. It is pretty good. It's just not as good when compared to those other categories. I said KINDA weak because it's great, but it isn't in the top five best songs on the album, I can say that confidently. Musically, it's very mellow and the music isn't bad, but it's simpler than most of their catalog. I will say that at the end of the day, this is a good little song :)

5. Mona Lisa (When the World Comes Down)- This is the title track of the album. This is not what I was expecting, but it is pretty freakin' good!!! It's the 4th best song of the album! It's a slow little song that's composed of Tyson singing very passionately and he really gets to me on this one. He's backed by acoustic guitars and some piano. This song is a very good song musically. It's just a mellow little thing, but it's just so passionate. By the end, there are some percussive instruments in it too. I enjoy this song!

6. Breakin'- This was my favorite song on the album for a while. Notice I said "was". This is still the 2nd best of the album. This is classic AAR. The drums are EXTREMELY strong on this song and the guitars are absolutely amazing! Tyson sings of breaking hearts, but it really is a beautiful rocker. As a drummer, I LOVE this song. The drums on here are on par with Move Along (the song). The drums really get me moving! The band is really locking in with eachother and playing very passionately! They really have good chemistry and it shows on songs like this. The chorus is pretty good, but I love the verses (mainly for the drumming :p). Awesome song, definitely one to check out. This would've been a great single too.

7. Another Heart Calls- Ok, BEST SONG OF THE ALBUM!!!! Easily! It starts off soft and then a female voice comes in. It's a duet between Tyson and a female singer whose name escapes me. The song starts off very mellow, but it slowly builds up. The music is so well composed! Everything in it is perfect! The guitars are inspired, the drums definitely have some fire behind them. Tyson and the girl harmonize well and both of them have such emotion! The pre chorus and the chorus are the high points of the song! The whole song is absolutely amazing though! This song is my 2nd favorite song of the band's career with Move Along. This is the one song that NEEDS to be released as a single. I can picture this all over radio stations. This song is what AAR is all about; great melodic rock that still has strong drums and passion! EXCELLENT SONG!!!

8. Real World- This song is a good rocker. It has an organ part in it and the drums are pretty good. Tyson's vocals soar in this one and the chorus is really good! This song really does rock. I'd say this is probably tied for the 3rd best song with track 2. The guitars play some melodies through here and the drums aren't Chris Gaylor's typical drumming, BUT!!! They still kick major keister!!! This is more of an experimental song for them, much like Fallin' Apart, and it's a successful experiment! The organ is used just right to add some extra melody and mood! Good song!

9. Back to Me- This song starts off with some melodic guitars and then Tyson comes in. It's a ballad, but I'm not a fan of it. The main reason is it sounds average. It sounds like the majority of radio ballads and just isn't much different from the radio ballads. The band's previous ballads like Straitjacket Feeling, It Ends Tonight, and the beautiful Dance Inside really have unique sounds that define AAR. This song isn't something that defines the band. It's just average. Other than Tyson's voice, it honestly has no trace of being an AAR song. The solo is pretty good though.

10. Believe- This song is pretty good. Probably the 5th best in my opinion! The song has some good guitars and Tyson is as passionate as ever. It is a good rocker. The drums are good, but they don't strike me as much as other songs. The guitars do have some melodies in this song that stick out. The solo (if that is a solo, it sure sounds like it) sounds pretty well executed. I do like the chorus quite a bit. I don't really have much to say about this song.

11. The Wind Blows- This song starts off with a hard rock drum beat, but then some synths come in and it's actually a softer song. It doesn't do much for me. I'm not gonna bash it, but I'm not gonna say it's a good song. It's all in what you like. This one isn't something I'm crazy about. The verse sounds ok, but the chorus is just blah.

12. Sunshine- This is a hidden track. It starts off with a cool-sounding orchestral part and it's an uplifting song, but for me, the song doesn't do much. The song might as well have stayed hidden. The orchestral part is cool, but the way the song is executed isn't the best. It's a good closing song though.

Verdict: This is an album that is still undeniably AAR, but it is more experimental. I believe that it's a good album for anyone who likes alternative rock music, pop music or just wants a fun album full of good tunes without the explicit material and even some real talent. This album isn't as good as Move Along. It is definitely a solid album and very well done. Their newer album, Kids in the Street, is a significant downgrade from this in my opinion. It still has good tunes, but this one has more good tunes. I'd say buy this album if you want good music to listen to.

On their third release, THE ALL AMERICAN REJECTS come fully into their own.
WHEN THE WORLD COMES DOWN is compiled with tracks created with vision, spontaneity and musical drive.
The ALL AMERICAN REJECTS grasp the current sound of the pop-rock scene in North America and run with it.

Their mega hit of summer 2009, GIVES YOU HELL validates the global appeal for their sound.
The second track, FALLIN APART, includes a strong musical rift reminiscent of DIXIES MIDNIGHT RUNNER's 80s hit "Come on Eileen".

Their sound is young, fresh and packs a punch.

If you enjoy the spirit and sound of bands such as Weezer, Blink 182 and Green Day then this product may appeal to your musical taste.

5.0 Super Album!
