1990年から続くAIDSのチャリティアルバムシリーズの20作目。
本作はThe Nationalのデスナー兄弟がキュレーターとなり、今とてもおもしろいUSロックシーンの見本市のようなラインナップになっている。

このアルバムの魅力的なポイントはほとんどが未発表音源であり、本アルバムでしかきけない曲が多くあること。
しかも曲自体の完成度も非常に高く、贔屓のミュージシャンが収録されているならその為だけに購入しても間違いない出来だと思われる。

個人的にはDirty Projectors、Bon Iver、The National、Yeasayer、Sufjan Stevensの曲が非常によかった。
中でもSufjan StevensのThe Castanetsのカヴァーの’You Are The Blood’は出色の出来栄えであると思う。

Di tutte le canzoni presenti sui due CD (oltre 30) ce n'è una sola (Cello song) che mi è piaciuta; quella che avevo sentito come colonna sonora all'inizio di un film. Incisione mediocre.

I give this one five stars because it is one of the best comps I've seen in a while. Two discs of my favorite bands performing interesting covers and originals and all for a worthy cause. Amazon's sale price made the deal even better. I do have one possible complaint, though I still give the cd five stars. My complaint is this: Like many/most people these days I rip all of my cds into iTunes so that I can listen to my music on my iPod and computer. But disc 1 of this comp does not play in my Mac computer. When I insert the disc it spins around for a few seconds and then gets spit out. I did not have this problem with disc two(?). I have not had this problem with any of my other cds except some of those old Sony dual disc sets which I promptly returned. If you've had a similar problem with this cd please leave a comment (or if you have this cd and were able to rip it into iTunes, please also leave a comment...I'd like to know if I have a defective disc or computer or if they are all this way. Thanks! Well, aside from that issue, this is a great cd. A must buy!!!

I've only just bought this album but feel it worth a review, as I came to it having discovered The National through their album High Violet. The Dessner brothers from The National produced this album for Red Hot, and wanted to bring together, in Aaron's words, `the best of independent music, with an emphasis on traditional themes played and arranged in a contemporary way.' They have fulfilled this statement of intent brilliantly, producing a compilation full of lovingly crafted music from a wonderful array of artists that feels wholly integrated as a work of art. The packaging is also thoughtful and beautifully designed.

I'm so in awe of what a great compilation this is, I couldn't quite comprehend any of the less than five star reviews! But having read the sleeve notes and thought about it, I think Aaron's statement of intent that I have quoted goes some way to explaining why some people coming to it from Arcade Fire or The National may find it disappointing. This compilation isn't indie rock, it is mostly grounded in a gentler folk orientated sound, although the second CD is an eclectic mix of more upbeat songs, and it certainly helps if you enjoy good music from a spectrum of styles and artists.

If you love the darkness at the heart of much of The National output and the quieter moments of Arcade Fire, then I think you will love this album. if I can be allowed a little sentiment here, there is a `beautiful sadness' to much of the music here which I absolutely loved.

There are too many of my favourite artists present here to mention, but there have also been a few revelations, and I think whatever your tastes you are bound to make a few new discoveries on this album.
