This Brooklyn trio has never worked harder at crafting a set of concise, sonically battering, or flat-out bizarre tunes than on this collection of fringe-surfing tone bombs. Yet a new roadhouse blues band philosophy has simultaneously emerged, allowing the group to loosen up and casually toss off a record packed with blurry hooks and zoomed in riffs. REPO irreverently mulches the sounds and images of radio, TV, and Internet into a fertile compost pile squirming with new, raw life.
Although Black Dice is considered a ''noise band'', this album transcends and possibly redefines the genre. Friends of mine that abhor ''experimental music'' have discovered there is a lot to like on this CD. You may be surprised to find that these compositions have well defined back beat and definitive melodies, just presented in a manner you may not be accustom to. Granted this music won't be for everyone and those resistant to an unconventional approach should avoid this. But anyone who believes they've ''heard it all'' should give this disk a listen.
