Got this for my birthday from my mom (it had been in my wish list for while) and I am not disappointed. I have three little boys who love pancakes and I don't have room for a large waffle iron in my kitchen. I tried this out (using the recipe included with the pan) and they were delicious and easy.
My tips for success: butter or oil the pan before you put the mix in and only cook 4-5 at a time (otherwise I had trouble flipping them fast enough--or else I need to turn it down some more!) Sprays don't work as well (same as any other non-stick surface--they leave residue and buildup on the Teflon); oil with a basting brush is better. You use a fork to flip them and it's actually not too hard to flip them back into the little holes.
Bottom line: Great purchase. Fun. Tasty waffles. Worth the money! :)
P.S. Here is the recipe in case you misplaced it. I think that they work best with the recipe that came with it.
Nordic Ware Silver Dollar Waffle Recipe Ingredients 1 cup flour ½ tsp. baking soda 1 tsp. sugar ¾ tsp. baking powder ½ tsp. salt 1 egg 1 cup buttermilk 1 Tbsp. melted butter
Directions Preheat pan over medium heat and season with butter or oil. In a medium bowl, sift together flour, baking soda, sugar, baking powder and salt; set aside. Beat egg until light and fluffy. Add egg, buttermilk and butter to dry mixture; mix until blended. Spoon about 2 Tbsp. butter into each cavity, and cook until pancakes bubble. Turn each pancake over and continue cooking until pancakes are a light golden brown.
What a great way to make waffles! The mix should be made thin enough to spread and only add enough mix to each waffle shape to prevent spreading. The burner can be on a low setting. I brushed butter on the pan and there was no sticking. Flip with small tipped tongs when brown on one side. Quick cooking easy to use and clean. Not the messy bulky electric waffle maker that needs to heat up between waffles, be cleaned and put away. Awesome product!
Very useful to make waffles in a very short time. Popular with grandchildren. 7 waffles can be ready in 20 minutes from starting to mix until they can be served.
Pros: it’s fast - use it alongside a regular pan, when waffle side is sufficiently crispy simply ‘dump’ the minis into the second pan to finish the other side and reload the waffle pan. Can make a crapload of waffle-pancakes in a hurry with very little waste.
It’s simple to use and well made - might last a lifetime.
It’s versatile - we’ve used waffle batters and pancake batters
It’s fun - what kid (or kid at heart) doesn’t like mini waffles?
