What is there to say about Oscar Peterson that has not already been said? It is a real challenge, however having many of his recordings in vinyl and on compact disc it certainly does not hurt to add more. I may - but not absolutely sure - have it on vinyl tucked away somewhere, and if not it is still a bonus.
To be honest I had no clue who Jerome Kern was until I heard Oscar Peterson's rendition of 'I Won't Dance' and 'Smoke Gets In Your Eyes' played on CBC from this album. I had to hear more so I ordered the cd from Amazon. I was not disappointed. Now I know what a great contribution to popular music Mr. Kern made. He along with Oscar Hammerstein III, Dorothy Fields, Otto Harbach, Ira Gershwin, (That's Gooyshwin to you music buffs) Jimmy Mchugh and P.G. Wodehouse collaborated on some memorable tunes/lyrics. Oscar's tribute is wonderful. Another worthy cd among many of Mr. Peterson's that I have in my Jazz collection. He is indeed one of the Greatest.
