The four girls became close friends after being recruited as part of a large string section for a UK arena tour, and decided to work together to create a new musical phenomenon. ヴァイオリニスト2人にチェロニストにヴィオラニストの弦楽器カルテットのデビューアルバム。
映画やCMで使われた様々なジャンルの有名楽曲を弦楽器と電子音でカバーしたアルバムです。

以下、簡単にカバー元を引っ張ってきました。

日本でも聞いたことのある曲がちらほら。
名曲ばかりということで、正直原曲の方がいいというものもありますが、
クラシックからニューエイジまで様々な名曲を統一した雰囲気に
仕上げる技術は相当の物だと思います。
まさに各ジャンルの美味しいところ取りのアルバムです。

美形弦楽器カルテットによるカバーってどっかで聞いたことある
コンセプトですが、カバーとしてはかなり良質なアルバムだと思います。

youtubeでバイオリンの辺りをうろうろしていたらなんかお姉さんたちがＺＥＰＰＥＬＩＮの「カシミール」をやっていた。全部透明の電子弦楽器で見た目も新鮮。こりゃ一回試してみっかということで注文。届きました。結論はなかなか聞けます。よろしい。まあ曲目もいいものを取り揃えているからでしょうが、見た目だけのはったりではなさそうです。

Escala brings technical precision and passion to music both new and old

I have heard Nina Simone's classic ballad "Feeling Good" sung by some truly wonderful performers but it never occurred to me that it could also be a stirring instrumental... until I heard Escala do it. The idea that a string quartet - an English string quartet at that - could bring such heartfelt emotion to a song that was made to be sung in a smokey club somewhere down by the harbor just knocked me out. Escala, in fact, knocks me out every time I hear them play. These four young women play with precision, which you'd expect from classically trained musicians, but they add something vibrant to their arrangements that elevate them, in my opinion, far above most of their contemporaries. If you haven't heard these four women play then you should.

Ich habe mir diese CD bereits vor ca. 1,5 Jahren bestellt. Sie ist wunderbar abwechslungsreich. Etliche Cover aber auch selbst komponierte Stücke sind darauf zu finden. Von langsamer, melancholischer bis zur actionreichen Musik ist alles dabei.

Die CD hatte Bekannten so gut gefallen, dass ich diese dann zu Weihnachten verschenkt habe und ein Streit der CD-Beschenkten los ging, welche Musik zuerst gehört wird.

Ein Highlight schlechthin :)

When I first heard Escala on Britain's Got Talent (on YouTube) a couple of months ago, I thought they were great. Then, caught up in with this year's show, I forgot about them until I heard Palladio on a classical music radio station and immediately recognized it as Escala's audition piece. I looked for more of Escala on the Net and was so impressed I bought the album. I LOVE IT! This will be my new favourite CD for a long, long time, I think. The choice of pieces is excellent and not the "same old" that so many artists and groups seem to be doing lately. And the music is brilliantly played. As Piers Morgan said on BGT, Escala "sparkles".
