アレも良かったけど、これ2D(ってか情報少ない時のレビューだとしても、明らかに2Dテイルズなのは分かるだろ)そもそもアレキャラゲー、こっちファンゲー。

It sadens me how so many great games dont make here to the states. Im a huge fan of the tales series and when I saw this. I just knew I must have it. Even if I did not understand it. It is good thing, Im trying and want to learn Japanese. Plus google magic my friends! Lolz
Now the game itself.
Pros
Alot of characters!
Plus you can customize all the characters. Skills, weapons, armor, rings, titles... probly more but I not figure it out yet.
Graphics are nice.
Music is a variety of tales songs, that just brings back good memories of past tales games I have played. ^^
Cons
Can get repeative
The stages are just waaaaay to big.
And the AI are kinda annoying with always going after items and avoiding you most of the time because they are greedy items grubbers. XD
But hey this was the first Tales fighting game so the few cons are exspected in something new. So maybe if they make another game like this it be much more complete. Like the Dissidia 012 is to Dissidia.

A fun fighting game for the hardcore 'Tales of' fans, but definitley far from flawless.

Overview
With a series like Tales of, you would think that a game like this would have come out much sooner. Thankfully due to Dissidia: Final Fantasy's success, other Tales of crossovers doing pretty well, and having enough variety of characters allowed Namco to finally make a game like this.
Now I don't really like doing the usual 5-6 of the 'usual' categories with scores usually used for reviews nor do I like just a lot of long paragraphs with no way to divide them up. Instead I'll write my review in sections what I believe is very relevant to the game.
Battle System
If you've ever played a Tales game before, this battle system should feel VERY familiar to you. If not, basically every game in the main series is an RPG with battles fought in a 2D (sometimes 3D) plane where characters have regular attacks, artes (special moves), guarding ability basically things you would see in a regular fighting game. This is why I believe Tales fighting game is perfect for the series to utilize its battle system so you can have fun playing with other people.
Anyway the game kind of takes a hint from Super Smash Bros and adding platforming to have more fun and variety. Unlike SSB, every character has HP and TP meaning the only way to KO a character is to keeping attacking them with regular attacks and artes till their HP goes to 0.
There are items that randomly appear throughout the stage for any character to use. You have to activate items with the triangle button (by default) so if you don't like items like Barbatos Goetia, you can essentially play a whole battle with no items used if your opponent desires this as well.
Every battle in the game has a time limit so when you are playing with friends to prevent running away for an entire match for the most part and make things a little fair. Now as for the CPU...
The Infamous AI/CPU
The main complaint about this game is fighting against the CPU in any shape or form. The big problem about the CPU is that their highest priority is to search for items over attacking their opponent. Basically, if there is an item that appears the CPU will stop whatever they are doing, and run for the item.
It may not sound that bad to you, but sometimes it can be a little frustrating to catch your opponent if you don't have any magic or ranged moves since every character by default runs at the same speed.
This makes the AI really inconsistent and annoying to fight sometimes. While I don't mind it as much as other people, the majority of the people who have played have this complaint and you might also so just keep that in mind.
Yggdrasil Battle (Story Mode)
The story in this game isn't particularly exciting. Basically there is a tournament called the Yggdrasil Battle, where pairs of two team up to get all the flags, to make their wish come true from the Great Seed from the World Tree.
There are 9 total story modes. You start off with 4 story modes and unlock other story modes by completing their story line. Each story mode as said earlier has two different characters you go through at a time. You can play as either character but keep in mind that you should keep both fully built and customized so the CPU controlling your other character can help you as much as you can.
To Advance through the story you are put on a world map (that's pretty much the same for every character). To go through the main story, you have to go to a blue flag, which you will see a characters 'skit' (basically where a few characters interact with each other) before engaging in a fight. The Levels/GP (which I will get to later) is pre-determined.
There are parts on the map with dual swords which serves as "random battles" of sort. Any time you run over these you are automatically put in a battle against two randomly generated CPU. While the main story has pre-determined GP for the CPU, these random CPU will have GP that is close to your main character's current GP.
Sometimes there are also icons on the map called '?" events. These are events to use to unlock the other characters of the game who don't have their own story mode. Most of the ? events have fights that are quite a bit harder than your average story mode fight so fighting them right away may not always be the smartest option. A few ? events are just skits with no fighting.
Other Fighting Modes
Alongside the Story Mode, you have a plethora of other fighting modes such as Quick Battle where you can have a battle with the CPU (or your friends) with any character you like and a Survival Mode where you keep fighting characters of predetermined GP till you lose a battle.
There are Special Battles which give you an interesting set of circumstances for a fight and you have to win the battle with these rules. Many of them are quite difficult and have an interesting catch for you to figure out given the move set that you have. There are 20 in total but you can't unlock some until you've unlocked some character and have beat some of the older events. Finishing all 20 of these battles will most likely unlock the last character you need to have all 35 characters of the game.
There is also an interesting mini-game called "Tales of Wallbreaker" where you play as characters from Phantasia/Destiny/Eternia/Narikiri Dungeon (those are the only ones available) and defeat the opponent by continually attacking them with attacks and artes and hit them against the opponent's wall until you destroy their "wall".
Characters
There are 35 Total characters in the game, representing every mainline Tales game from Phantasia up until Heats. Some games have more characters representing their game than others depending on how popular/influential the game was. There are a few 'surprise' characters you'll be able to play as so if you hadn't been following the announcements for Tales of VS characters you'll be in for a surprise for some of them.
As far as character variety goes I think that is is quite good overall. You have pure sword fighters, hybrid melee/mages, full mages, archers, and even.. healers.
While I think the majority of the characters they chose was good for the most part, I do have one character that I'm not really pleased with adding... and that is Mint Adnade from Tales of Phantasia. I mean really? Out of all the healers in the series she only has like 2-3 options of being even somewhat offensive in this game. She pretty much only works in a team battle, but if you are playing as Mint and are on your team good luck trying to win. I personally think that she could have been replaced with a more popular and more useful character but oh well.
Customization
To take after some of its RPG 'roots' characters do level up in this game, but not in the usual 'sense' Every character has an amount of GP which maxes out at 99999. You use the GP to increase the stats of your characters and characters moves so a character is about as strong or as weak as you want him or her to be.
The higher GP you have, the more artes for a character are unlocked (though most characters get most of their artes around 2500 GP). Characters can use their Hi-Ougi/Mystic Arte only after they have 2500 GP.
With more GP, there are also more items that become available in the store. These include weapons and armor to further increase your strength and defense, accessories which give your character more interesting properties.
There are also "SP items" which a character can equip with a certain amount of SP to give them unique properties such as being able to hold a magic spell, combo artes of the same tier together, or simply to just increase the amount of max HP they have. These are very important for later on in the game and you should consider these when wanting to make the most of the character you want to play.
Conclusion: Should you play it?
Honestly considering the price it usually goes for (around $50 US) and the fact that it hasn't even been localized in English, I would say you should only consider it if you are really a hardcore Tales fan, since having knowledge of some of the character or the battle system would help a lot. This game being a person's first Tales game probably wouldn't be a good way to get a person into the series.
The game itself is pretty fun, especially if you really like the battle system, and you'll find it quite addicting to play for quite a bit.
However, the really inconsistent AI can be a big turnoff to some, since it can be quite annoying to fight them and you have to fight them in order to unlock every character in the game.
After beating the story mode it may be hard to find ways to play the game more unless you are REALLY addicted to this game's battle system or if you have friends or 'Adhoc Party' on the PS3 (to play people online) with.
Keeping all that in mind, I hope you enjoy the game if you decide to get it!

Tales of Decent.

Well the game itself is pretty good.
Of course it's all in Japanese, being a Japanese Import.
Some titles of the characters will be in English and a few other things. But nothing major.
So don't buy for the story, unless you can read and understand it.
The fighting style feels a lot like a regular Tales game. More like Tales of Legendia with it's side-scroll fighting and not as much as a run-around fighting, likes ToS or ToV.
The main-quest is decent.
Map-Screen and find a battle.
Whether it be against other Tales characters, or juts random SwordsMan, Soldiers, Monks or Mages.
It's usually a team-based game. 2v2.
On the story, playing as Lloyd and Colette at the moment.
Not sure if you change while farther into the game, but we'll find out.
Sometimes it can be a bit difficult. The fights with the main-story progression are a lot easier than the random battles you look for. I've personally found more trouble with the randoms, rather than the main cast. The battle isn't as fluent as I could want, but I guess I'll get used to it.
You start out with I believe, 8 characters. That leaves 27 empty boxes for characters to be unlocked. Quite a good amount of characters for a decent fighting game.
If you're a Tales fan and you have a PSP, I would say go ahead and buy it. Definitely worth the money, but it may get a little repetitive.
Here's your chance to use your favorite Tales characters against one-another. So give it a shot.
