内容紹介
In September 2008 Stratovarius found the freedom to go into seclusion for almost a month in a cottage by the sea in a Finnish forest to relax, laugh, write songs, be creative together, and record. And they found themselves being a band reborn. The result is a melodic, powerful, fresh, tight, and technically elaborate new album. Powerful melodies mingle with sophisticated arrangements; strong anthems stand alongside heavy songs. There are 11 songs full of energy, musicianship, and a positive outlook.

The Music:
1. Deep Unknown- A dark, atmospheric key part introduces this song and the band enters soon after. The guitar shredding is already far more experimental than anything Tolkki would've done. Timo comes in with a lower vocal note than most fans would expect, but he sounds much more powerful in his lower register than he did when he strained his voice to get the high vocals. The music has much more meaning and purpose with all the atmosphere and brooding energy in the guitar and bass parts. The guitar solo in this is far different from anything Tolkki would've done. It's also far superior to anything Tolkki would've thought of. Why? Because it steps outside of the formula Stratovarius has been churning out since 1997. This song is new, exciting and very good! Great song!!!
2. Falling Star- Another key intro. This one sounds more upbeat. This album is sort of Jens' album because there are many keys throughout the album. This song is no exception and it also goes outside of the typical Stratovarius formula. It is still power metal, but a mystical and almost darker intensity lurks in all the songs on this album and in some, such as the opener and this one, many progressive elements reveal themselves! I especially love the vocals in this song! This is another solid song! Great job!!!
3. King of Nothing- This song is very dark as far as Stratovarius goes. It's epic and definitely a highlight of the album! It's slower and brooding and the lyrics are much darker. I'm talking darker than even the Dreamspace album! Yeah! The keys throughout here are EXTREMELY aggressive and the drums drive the song. Kotipelto's vocals are extremely great as well. He's never delivered a better performance prior to this song! This song is an epic journey full of twists, turns, and emotion. This song is one of the album's BEST! Definitely check it out!
4. Blind- This is basically the only song of the album that doesn't impress me. The key intro sounds very nice, but after than I find it to be a little out of place. The songs on this album are mostly dark and contain intriguing and thought provoking lyrics, but this one is a typical power metal anthem. It's still more unique than anything Stratovarius has made before, but it's still not that impressive as a whole song. The guitars on here are very impressive, though.
5. Winter Skies- This song is gorgeous. The intro is very peaceful. It then turns into a beautiful Stratovarius ballad. However, this one isn't cheesy, power metal-like, or cliché. It is beautiful and sounds more like a song that would come from a top-notch progressive metal band. Kotipelto's voice avoids breaking your eardrum, but it's also very emotional, expressive, and varied. The piano part in the middle of the song is breath-taking. Jens is a freakin' genius! Stratovarius have obtained a lineup that know how to actually expand their musical horizons and make music. This song is a highlight of the album as well! The guitar solo is amazing as well!
6. Forever is Today- Sure, this song is more upbeat, but the difference between this one and Blind is that this one actually fits in with the album. It's heavy and in your face, but the lyrics aren't cheesy. They fit quite well. The music of it is a shout out to the old Stratovarius, but with some very welcome changes that make the atmosphere more epic, welcoming, and unique. The keyboarding on this song is awesome and the guitars are awesome! Jörg does his typical drumming, but even that seems to have improved with the new lineup! The musicality of this song is far beyond anything I've heard the old Stratovarius do. GREAT song!!!
7. Higher We Go- Another more upbeat song, but hey, this one definitely shows a new twist to the typical Stratovarius power metal style. It has room to breathe and it also has epic moments. While Tolkki wrote everything with a very one dimensional intent, Kupiainen wrote this song with different feels, shifts and definitely cooler guitar parts. The solo section is just straight up beautiful and emotional! Nice song! Love it!!!
8. Somehow Precious- This song sounds different than anything Strato has done in the past from the get go. The guitar intro is unique and then it turns into a very soft ballad. Like I said, the lyrics of this album aren't all happy, hopeful, I'm going to overcome this today kind of lyrics. This song sees Strato dealing with a relationship and it is actually executed extremely well. It's a very good song and it shows the band toying with some new ideas. As far as love lyrics (and especially power metal lyrics) go, this song contains outstanding lyrics. They are very well thought-out, very emotionally conveyed, and very tastefully executed. Guitar solo section is very good. Stratovarius is showing extreme growth! This song is very good! Definitely one to be checked out!
9. Emancipation Suite I: Dusk- This is where the prog elements show themselves the most. This one opens off slow and heavily and at first sounds like it'll be in the style of "Soul of a Vagabond" from the Elements album. The verse is soft and expressive. Comparing this album to any of their previous efforts would make one double take because most of the previous albums have the same sound basically and this is the first really growth we've seen the band do since the Visions album way back in '97. This song is very representative of that growth. This part of the suite is the more vocal-centered part. It is very beautiful. Timo's vocals are filled with emotion. The music has taken a leap from typical power metal to a more experimental and progressive side. The guitar solo that Matias gives us is beautiful and the whole song is just great! Awesome stuff!
10. Emancipation Suite II: Dawn- This one starts off with some light guitars. One can actually picture the sun rising on a cold morning. This part of the suite is my favorite because it sounds haunting and it focuses much more on instruments and Stratovarius has been rounded off by the best musicians it's ever had. Lauri's bass is far better than Jari's, Jens has never expressed himself like this, Jörg's drumming has never sounded so relaxed and fitting for the music, and Matias not only replaces Tolkki, he proves that he actually puts emotion into his playing and enhances the music that Stratovarius produces. Great song, great job!
11. When Mountains Fall- This song ends the album off on a sad note. It is a beautiful song. Stratovarius is exploring the theme of love again, but again, it doesn't come off as cheesy, cliché, or stupid. It's actually inspired and beautifully executed. The music consists of an acoustic guitar and some violins/strings and it reminds me a little bit of the song Forever, but light years better. It's is more mature in the lyrics and the music is also much more emotional and beautiful. The album ends off on a sad, solemn, but graceful note. Brilliant song!!!
Verdict- If you are a Stratovarius fan, BUY THIS ALBUM! If you like progressive metal, buy this album. If you like power metal, buy this album. If you want good music, buy this album. If you want something better than this album, get Elysium by Stratovarius. It's even more progressive and even more beautiful. This album is by no means bad. In fact, nothing that came out before it touches it.
Happy Shopping!
A noter aussi le retour des solos de synthé et de guitare hallucinants, avec un Johansson en grande forme. Le chngement de guitariste leur a fait du bien !
