If this was Idlewild"s last record (hope it's not) it would be a great overview of all that they've been trying to achieve since the beginning, they still rock make no mistake but the melodies are sweeter, the songwriting more precise and the playing at the top of their game. Simply a great great album that gets better with time goes on.

Time for another one I think lads.

According to Scottish lore, the souls of those of Scottish heritage, wherever they may be in the world upon death, migrate back to the islands at the moment of their death. That is the renowned "low rode" talked about in what is probably Scotland's best known folk song. But you don't have to wait until you die to return to the islands. The fabulous Scottish veteran rock band Idlewild will take you back to the islands over and over again with their latest album. At first, I couldn't understand why there was no prior review for the album on Amazon; but I soon realized that Idlewild's many fans all over the world have been sold on the band for well over a decade now, and perhaps think they need no selling. Well, in case the band is new to you, or you just haven't heard Post Electric Blues yet, I can tell you that Idlewild has delivered yet again! Several of the album's songs, including the wonderful "City Hall", rank among the band's best work -- not that there is anything new in that. It is the case in virtually every album they have released to date. They have a knack for topping themselves! (The problem, undoubtedly, for anyone putting together a "best of" album for Idlewild is not in finding enough great songs, but deciding which gems will have to be left out -- because they have so many great songs! And several of the songs from Post Electric Blues will have to be added to their "best" list). Of course, you don't have to be of Scottish heritage to appreciate this band. They are a great rock band no matter from where you hail! But the subtle gaelic rhythms that always underlie their solid rock scores and their poetic conjuring is especially intoxicating if you have a bit of gaelic blood in ye. Idlwild has always been one of the most literate bands going. And though the band is often downright analytical in its voice, there is room in the world for the voice of the analyst, especially when it has so much gaelic heart and gaelic soul and old world intellect to guide it. Don't miss this album!

My favourite Idlewild album. The deep lyrics really hit you on this one, along with those lovely melodies and angelic vocals. Idlewild are possibly the most underrated band on the planet and this album has wrongfully gone slighlty unnoticed in the mainstream.

When I say this album is criminally underrated, that applies to the band in general and not this album. The song ":Take me to the Islands" almost makes me cry at the sheer beauty of it. I have followed this band ever since music critic Jack Rabid lavished praise on them for the 2000 album "Broken Windows". I find it ironic that this band toured with Pearl Jam because what Idlewild does is create majestic songs that rock at the same time and they do it about 100 times better than Pearl Jam ever did.

Another great album by Idlewild, and one of the first of my order I got. I am surprised how good this band is and I never heard of them before Pandora introduced me to them.

This would be yet another great purchase if you know a few of their songs. Their style is unique and their music is great for almost any situation, and their lyrics catch you quickly and seldom let go.

I can only hope they make more albums in the future.
