Prior to their first, self-titled record, Japan's Cigavettes put out two EPs, large chunks of which were re-recorded for albums later on. Of the six songs on "Taste of the Sun," a whopping half were redeployed on either "The Cigavettes" or held over for "We Rolled Again," the band's second (and somewhat lesser) LP.
That being said, "Taste of the Sun" is still worth the ~$8 you'll pay through the Amazon marketplace. The three exclusive tracks--"Candlelight," "And the Boy is Dreaming," and especially the surprisingly dark "Berlin"--are all fantastic. And while the band clearly prefers the uptempo LP rerecordings of "Part of Your Life" and "Taste of the Sun," I happen to think that these more languid and effect-laden versions are the superior ones.
In sum, while "Taste" doesn't come with the nice bonus video content of "Out of the Race" EP, it's still worth a purchase.
