Tony Scott and Bill Evans together was on my wish list for years and now it is available. Tony Scott was one of the most inovative clarinet players of the bebop era and yet he is not mentioned by most of the critics. Ben Ratliff (NY Times) take note. And partnered with Bill Evans who had been influenced by George Russell this is a masterpiece. It is a 2 cd collection all recorded between 1956-59 with Scott Lafaro, Paul Motian,Henry Grimes,Milt Hinton, Jimmy Garrison Pete La Rocca etc. With over two hours of great jazz this release is a great slice of jazz history to add to your collection. Can anyone tell me why Tony Scott is hardly mentioned amongst the great clarinet players? Scott's tone and phrasing stand out and Evans's playing is as usual excellent.
